Perhaps this whole issue of meeting a new person wasn't as bad as it could have been. If he just talked about school, Jakab almost seemed normal, or as normal as anyone discussing a magical university. "With some people, it's pretty obvious what they can and can't do." He shrugged. "It hit me pretty quickly, anyway, and some people come in already doing things. They'll teach you a little bit about everything, though, give you a taste of all your options. Admittedly, some people aren't very good at much of anything."
Leaving it at that, Jakab squinted a bit, shading his eyes as he caught sight of the path he'd been headed for. Not that it probably looked like much of a path to anyone who wasn't familiar with it, just a faint rut where the verdant green of the surrounding grass faded into a thin line of dirt. It wound between small hillocks, around scrubby bunches of thorns and berries. He took to that rut and easily began to follow it with the occasional glance down.
"Makes it hard to regret all of the shit you've been through," he added, a bit more to himself, "when it lands you in a place like this."
