🍂 Cabin in the Woods 🎃

A night in the woods, a staple of any idyllic autumn! You don't have service out here, so there's no need to worry about pesky things like phone calls or text messages. Don't worry about noise pollution, either; there's not single soul around. You're so far out of the way, in fact, that no one can hear you scream! Isn't that fun?

how to play;
  • Comment with your character and whether you prefer things be sweet or scary.
  • Reply to others.
  • Enjoy your time at the cabin in the woods!

🍬 treats;

  1. campfires: Warm the hands, warm the heart.
  2. one bed: When you booked this cabin, you hadn't expected their to be one bed. Or maybe you did! You planned this all along, didn't you?
  3. board games: Fuck yeah, board games! Monopoly! Card games! Chutes and Ladders!
  4. truth or dare: When you're trapped together indoors, truth or dare is as good a game as any to have some fun.
  5. spin the bottle: Depending on how big your party is, this game might have a pretty predictable ending.
  6. night hike: Enjoy the sights, and the sounds, and maybe take a few pictures for the blog?
  7. swimming: A relaxing dip in the lake... or maybe skinny dipping?
  8. cooking: The obligatory smut option. Is it as you'd expect, or do your differences raise their heads here, too?
  9. mushroom hunting: It's a growing hobby, scavenging the woods in search of the perfect chanterelles to complete your collection. Ideal for nerds and day-trippers alike.
  10. tarot cards: A fun way to get to know someone better!
  11. movie nights: Hard pass on the horror, thanks. This is a Disney house.
  12. hot cocoa: Or coffee, or tea, or even a hot mug of milk! Whatever it takes to keep your hands warm and your belly full.
  13. hot tub: No ideal cabin in the woods would be complete with a steaming hot tub to keep you warm!
  14. karaoke: At least way out in these woods, no one can hear how bad you sound?
  15. camping: Maybe you prefer to forgo the cabin and get right up next to nature.
  16. WILDCARD

💀 tricks;

  1. ouija board: Is there someone you're looking to talk to? Well, you've just found yourself a portal to the other side.
  2. killer: A place so remote makes easy pickings for a killer. And, being so far off the main road, what are the chances of them getting caught? Better start running.
  3. ghosts: They tried to warn you about the haunted cabin, but you didn't want to listen. Now look: you're waking up with scratches, and some ghost decided it would be fun to chuck your laptop in the lake.
  4. trapped: A cabin in the woods isn't nearly as nice when you're being held here against your will.
  5. snapped: You've been here too long and it's messing with you. Now you know why Jack snapped in The Shining.
  6. forbidden: You're trespassing, but what's the worst that could happen? The owner of this cabin finds you laid up in their bed and decides to dole out punishments? ...Nah.
  7. werewolves: Did you know this place was cursed by werewolves? No? All right, well, now you know. Don't make any sudden movements and they might not see you.
  8. running: Something's chasing you and you've got to make a run for it! Just, for the love of God, don't fall.
  9. split up: Something's gone bump in the night and your friends all decided to split up. Bad move in hindsight. Now they've got you right where they want you...
  10. is anyone there?: A classic case of an unwelcome addition on what was supposed to be a perfect vacation. Better go check it out.
  11. dead body: Doesn't matter who they were before. They're dead now, and now you have a mystery on your hands. And, you know, a lot to be afraid of.
  12. monster: You don't even have a word to describe this creature. It's not a ghost. It's not a goblin. It's something far, far worse.
  13. weapons: Arming yourself is important when you don't know what's out there. Start small. Like a frying pan.
  14. breakdown: There's only so much cabin horror you can take before you completely lose it. Hopefully you have someone at your side to put you together again.
  15. the end: There's no winning this one. Either you go out on your own terms or you surrender yourself to whatever it is that's tormenting you.
  16. WILDCARD

Only sweetness please. Unless you want to deal with a terrified bard?

"What are you doing with those?" Geralt asked with a sign. He had been out seeking them dinner and dragged the animal carcass in, spotting the cards that he remembered seeing before in Yennefer's possessions. Maybe she had left them behind...

He hefted the animal onto the table of the kitchen area with little care as he asked, "Do you even know how to read those?"

He'd mostly been exploring the cabin while Geralt had been out doing...whatever he was off doing. Jaskier had only paid a little attention at the others declaration earlier and had spent the rest of the time testing the beds nap ability, along with poking around.

Still, the question had him huffing a bit. "Of course I do. You shuffle them and they show you little pictures!" Ok so maybe he wasn't entirely up to speed on how they worked, but it couldn't be that difficult

right?

He had to stop himself from laughing directly at the bard. He should have known that the answer was going to be just that, yet he still asked... Geralt leaned against the table and explained to the best of his ability.

"Each card has a meaning. I don't know them, but I know that they can be interpreted in many ways. I've seen Yen pour over them for people, telling them what ifs of the future. But I'm not sure if I believe it myself." Because cards being able to tell the future was worse than things like Law of Surprise or the entire concepts of destiny and fate.

"Ah. Well thats just-" Something out of his paygrade, honestly. He'd seen a few of the little pictures on the cards and had thought they were pretty but beyond that? Well, he wasn't a mage, so he had no concept of what the cards meant either.

Still, he continued to shuffle said cards, looking excited as he peered at the 'little picture' on the bottom card, showing it to Geralt. "This one has hearts, at least." He offered brightly, tracing fingers over the face of it with a curious expression.

With crossed arms, he waited the end of Jaskier's sentence but he seemed stumped. And Geralt was of no help so he turned his attention back to the animal. It needed to be butchered. After all, someone had to do it and it was definitely going to be him.

The cards at least would distract the bard enough that he may not protest over the gore too much.

"And what do you believe the hearts to mean, interpreter?" he asked, throwing a smirk over his shoulder as he began to carve some meat from the animal.

"Well, the hearts clearly mean love!" He offered brightly, looking down at the hearts and the people on the card with a curious expression. He was no mage but explaining such a thing couldn't be that hard could it?

"Perhaps one of us will find love! Or both! there are two people on the card after all." He perked up at the thought, carefully plucking a card from the middle after a moments though. "Oh this one is clearly yours. It has your sword" He offered, holding out the card the others discarded sword. Not the exact same one, but close enough to the Witchers weapon.

"Love?" That was a funny concept. He could easily hide his laugh since he had his back to Jaskier. He was finished up and was setting the slab of meat he'd procured from the animal, glancing at the bard as he lifted the remains from the table. He'd have to get them outside, drop them in the woods to dispose of them.

But Jaskier suggesting one of them or both of them would find love? It was a topic he wanted to question and prod at. He eyed the card with the sword and nodded, dirty hand taking it to turn over and inspect closer. "I think only you would find love. Rumor goes that witcher's can't feel it, will never know it." He didn't think it was the case seeing as there were a great number of people he cared about but love? Perhaps it was too strong of a thing that he didn't know.

If anything, his words had him sputtering. Of course he'd heart all manner of things about Geralt and his kind but he'd only believe said things if the other man said they were true. He was an expert, a bit, on his own kind after all.

"Well perhaps this is your chance to prove that wrong!" He offered, gaze bright and hopeful in the others direction a moment. Perhaps even with him! Not that he'd offer such an option out loud. He knew the Witcher would just huff at his flights of fancy.

Instead he fiddled with the deck in his hands a moment, before pulling out another one. This one filled with a weird winged creature. Confused, he turned it one way then another, frowning.

He snorted, shaking his head. "I doubt it. There's no one in the general vicinity who would try." And yes, he was taking Jaskier's presence in account of his prediction. The bard was always more focused on whoever he was chasing for the moment. Last he'd heard it was a Lord's wife and he fully expected he was going to have to smuggle the other out of the area when it all went sour.

While picking up the remains, Geralt catch a glimpse of the card that Jaskier was looking over and said, "Basilisk." A grunt and he added, "Don't want to know what that one means."

"Isn't there?" His tone was soft, peering up at the other with a small frown. Not entirely offended, he knew full the objects of certain affection often ended badly when they found he wasn't entirely eager to stay with just them.

But Geralt was far different then any lord or lady. He was far more exciting, for one.

For the moment, however, he was racking his brain on what a Basilisk could mean in general other then bad news. "Right, well, perhaps another then." He offered, nodding and riffled through the deck a moment with a curious hum

The question was strange and he didn't know how to answer it. Which was why he didn't. Geralt stepped outside just long enough to drop the carcass and cover it with straw. He'd take it farther out later.

When he came back in, he moved across the space to peer over Jaskier's shoulder at the cards. "You're doing it wrong. You're supposed to draw them, not choose them. Something mystical about it."

"Oh." A small frown as he peered down at the deck curiously. The previous cards discarded in a small pile as he shuffled said deck once more. "I suppose that makes more sense." He offered brightly.

Excited to do it 'properly', he pulled one out carefully. "Ooh a knight!" He declared, peering at the tiny armored man holding a sword.

Watching Jaskier pull the knight card made him laugh. A hearty one that he cut short with a cough when he remembered that the bard would have no idea why it was funny. "Your latent or non-existent mysticism must have heard about my knighting."

Geralt leaned closer, hands bracing on the bard's shoulders gently before one pointed and he said, "I'm not so small."

"You're a...?" Sputtering in amazement, the excitement of what said card could mean overshadowed by the idea that the witcher was also such a thing. Given the other rarely joked, Jaskier fully believed him, jaw dropping in awe.

"That's amazing!" He offered in a brighter tone, gaze soft as he eyed the Witcher curiously. After a moments silence he perked up further. "I'd love to hear more about it."

"Yes," he grumbled, probably a little too closer to Jaskier's ear. He wondered if he was too far in the other's space and moved. He took himself away and across the space. He could cook the meat and busy himself that way.

"Queen Meve of Lyria knighted me. I didn't want to be. She insisted. "

The others soft breathe against his ear had him shivering a moment, gaze glittering with excitement and something else as he tracked Geralt across the room with a giant grin.

"That is a story for the ages! A knighted Witcher! There's never been such a thing." As far as he knew, anyway. People tended to be stingy with their stories after all, but he highly doubted any of the other Witchers could claim as such. Hesitating, he looked down at his hands a moment, muttering something to himself before shaking his head and perking right back up. "Another card, then?"
