Whoever it was that had them was apparently being a little more cautious, as Erik was never left alone for more than a few minutes at a time. While he honestly thought they'd be able to see right through his playing-along plot, they were apparently still trying to keep things realistic, as he was finally left alone, if reluctantly, after dinner.
