Who: Chloe and Callas
What: Talking/arguing about Bex and Jeremy
Where:Keaton
When: Monday April 26th (backdated)
Callas wasn't quite sure of what to say to Chloe, but she knew that she had to do something. She had to be something, because this wasn't working. Every day that went by she worried. It was mostly because she was waiting for Bex to do something. Jeremy wasn't quite stupid, but he was being frustratingly simple. Callas knew that she should have kept out of it, but ... well.
The best of intentions, she thought, and waited for Chloe to come back to the room so that they could talk.
had had a fairly great weekend. The musical was going well, and it was distracting her to the point where she wasn’t actively worrying over the pregnancy nor did she have time to dwell on feeling miserable for the majority of the day. Monday was surprisingly an easy day. Her mood from the weekend seeming to bleed into the week and she was hoping she’d be feeling that way at least until the show closed.
After catching a quick dinner in the dining hall she headed back to her dorm room, intent on taking a night to finish the homework she’d been putting off and to go over the possible schedule that Nadine was sending her for a few weekends in late May which was something else she’d also been avoiding. She wandered into their suite, calling out a hello to their suitemates who were heading out as Chloe headed in and dropping her messenger bag on her bed as she glanced over at Callas with a smile. “Hey roomie.” She greeted her warmly as she began to pull things out of her bag.“How as your Monday?”
"Hola." Callas offered her a slight wave and a smile. "Pretty good. Morning classes finished a little early." She ran her hand through the ends of her ponytail, shifting on her bed. "How was yours?"
"Good for a Monday." Chloe admitted as she pulled her laptop out and set it on her desk along with the books she'd taken out of her bag and hung the bag over her desk chair. "I think I'm getting used to running on less caffeine which is good."
"Find natural substitutes?" Callas questioned with a bit of a grin. She picked up her pillow and began toying with the edges. "Tea, I hear, is a good thing."
"Tea is a sad ,sad substitue for Coffee." Chloe announced as she glanced at the things she was going to do and then over at Callas. She opted to flop down on her bed, sprawling over it as she turned her attention to Callas across the room. Talking to her roommate was a better option than studing or going over job offers and press appearances. "But It'll have to do for now. "
"Nine months," Callas said, and then shook her head. "Man, braver girl than I, that's for sure." She smoothed her fingers over the fabric, and then hesitated. "Can I ask you something?"
"Tim's the one that has to deal with the caffeine withdrawal mood swings on top of the pregnancy mood swings , he's the brave one." It was weird to talk about the pregnancy as if it were a commonplace thing. It was just that but it was strange for her to feel so accepting about it. Then again she'd come to the conclusion that she had to accept it, it wasn't going to change. She'd chosen that so now she was going to deal with all of it. She glanced over to see Callas's hesitation and wondered for a moment what the question was. "Sure."
"How's Jeremy been about all of this?" Callas wanted to know. There wasn't any point to being subtle about it, not right now, anyway. She was totally going against anything Bex would wish - and probably Jeremy himself, too - but she had to ask anyway.
"The pregnancy?" Chloe asked, surprised that how Jeremy felt about anything would even cross Callas's mind, let alone prompt a question. "He's supportive." She admitted. He hadn't given an opinion then again she hadn't really given him a chance too. "I guess he's okay...we don't talk about it much." She was scared he'd get weirded out if she did speak about it so she was doing her best to simply
not.
"That's good," Callas said; it was. She meant it, because Chloe needed all the people she could get, aside from Tim himself. Charlotte and Jeremy were important. And yet... "You don't talk about it much?"
Chloe sat up then, deciding this wasn't a conversation to have while sprawled out on her bed. It seemed too serious for that. She slowly shook her head in response. "Not really. " She admitted. "I don't... I don't talk about it much to anyone and with Jeremy...I don't want things to change too much, yet." They would have too, she knew that but right now it wasn't a necessity in Chloe's mind.
"Well, things have sort of changed already." For once Callas wasn't talking about the pregnancy directly. She looked at Chloe and said, "He told you about the fight, yes?"
"The fight?" Chloe arched a brow, confusion flashing in her green eyes as she tried to figure out what Callas was referring too. "He hasn't mentioned a fight."
"So he hasn't mentioned that he and Bex haven't been speaking?" Callas questioned.
Chloe was quiet for a moment, her confusion turning to shock as she processed what Callas said. There was a flicker of anger that followed the shock but she quickly squelched that considering she was fiarly sure she had an inkling as to why Jeremy hadn't shared that information and getting angry would do no good. "He hasn't. He hasn't said anything about Bex." and Chloe hadn't really asked either. As usual she'd been far too wrapped up in her own issues to even ask Jeremy. She'd just assumed that things were going well, they had been the last time she'd asked both Bex and Jeremy.
"As far as I know," Callas said carefully, "they argued because..." She didn't want to blame Chloe, really; it wasn't Chloe's fault, exactly. She shrugged her shoulders. "They didn't--don't agree over things, and it's become a real problem."
“They don’t agree over things..” Chloe rolled those words over her tongue not liking how they sounded and really not liking that it was Callas telling her about this. “So they argued….people do, do that. Why… why are you telling me all of this?”
They don’t agree over things..” Chloe rolled those words over her tongue not liking how they sounded and really not liking that it was Callas telling her about this. “So they argued….people do, do that. Why… why are you telling me all of this?”
"Because judging by your reaction, Jeremy hasn't said a word about it," Callas said, "and he probably should have. Bex thinks he's choosing you over her."
"Which would explain why Jeremy hasn't said anything about it." Chloe pointed out . And it still didn't explain why Callas was making her aware of this. There was nothing she could do about how Bex was feeling, that was for sure and she wasn't entirley convinced that she needed to know this right now. "That's between him and Bex, Callas. "
For a moment, Callas simply stared at Chloe, and then her eyes narrowed. "Okay," she said, and put the pillow aside, leaning forward on her hands. "Let me make sure I understand you. Jeremy and Bex fought because she thinks he's choosing you over her, and that's between the two of them? You see absolutely no part of your own in this?"
Chloe simply arched a brow as she saw Callas's eyes narrowing. There was no way that this fight between then could have anything to do with her, not in Chloe's mind. "I don't." She answered plainly. "How Bex feels about things Jeremy does or does not do? Between the two of them. What could I possibly do to change that? When Tim and I had issues over Jeremy and the time I spent with him that was between me and Tim. Jeremy had no fault or part in it. I don't see the difference."
"Yeah, but there's a slight difference. You and Tim are so attached at the hip that surgery could possibly fail in the case of separating you." Callas shook her head. "I'm not saying that's a bad thing, and I'm not denying that Bex has jealousy issues. But if you're her friend and you're his friend, supposedly his best friend, you could try to see past your own need for him to be there for you and look out for his best interests. Bex has been so incredibly happy with him, and I don't think Jeremy's been suffering, either. You could try and make him see that he doesn't have to choose a side. That he can actually still support you without losing his girlfriend."
"Okay if it's not a bad thing don't talk about it like it is. because I fail to see where the boyfriend I see at most a few times a week is attached at the hip with me. Not the issue here though. I can't make Jeremy do or see anything. I haven't asked for anything from him. " Chloe was upset, visibly so, for the moment she was feeling attacked and whether Callas meant it that way or not she had no idea. It was how she felt though and subsequently she was on the defensive. "What in the world are you even talking about? Choosing sides? "
"I'm not talking about it like it's a bad thing," Callas said calmly. "In fact, I'm not talking about it at all. You mentioned that if they had issues over you two being friends, that it was their problem to work out, just like it would be your problem with Tim to work out. And I said that Jeremy and Bex aren't in the same position and never have been. You and Tim are..." She paused, offered a slightly lopsided smile. "It's a little sickening, how perfect you two seem for one another. You always seemed to just fit, you know? Like how I think of my parents, minus the whole really old deal." The smile faded as she looked back at Chloe. "Their relationship isn't like that, it's never been like that. They've been happy with one another, but Bex has had to walk on eggshells over you and Jeremy's friendship, and you know that. Frankly, and I don't think anyone else in her position wouldn't be a little nervous about the fact that when it comes down to it, Jeremy doesn't see anyone else but you. With you being pregnant, he's gone on this whole kick about being there for you twenty-four-seven. Which is great and all, but it doesn't exactly strike me as fair, especially seeing as how this just becomes all about you. He can't just drop everything in his life, Chloe. That's what you have Tim for, since he's actually your boyfriend."
Chloe listened carefully, after all she had no choice really at that point but once Callas was done talking she still felt slightly defensive. "I never asked him to be there for me twenty-four seven. I just asked him to be there if I needed him." And she hadn't really gone to him for anything that had to deal with the pregnancy, she just wanted to be Calvin and Hobbes for as long as she could with Jeremy and had been concentrating on that. "I realize that that's what Tim is there for. What exactly are you suggesting I do here, Callas Because I feel like you're pinning their fight on me when I don't see how I can change things when I never asked for that in the first place."
"You didn't ask for it, but you're in a position to help," Callas pointed out. "You didn't ask for him to help or give up all that time, Chloe, but you didn't tell him not to do any of that."
"What I'm supposed to ask my best friend to not be there for me when I need and want him there?" Chloe asked incredulously. "Do you even think that If I said I didn't want him to be there that he'd stop? This is Jeremy he doesn't work that way. "
"I'm not telling you to tell him to stop," Callas snapped, and then got up, because she was finally getting agitated with Chloe. She went for her sneakers, slipping her feet in and lacing up. "I'm telling you that maybe you should ask him to not be that far up your ass that he can't see he's going to lose everything else but you if he keeps this up."
"You know maybe I would tell him that Callas." Chloe was more than agitated herself right now with Callas and that was evident with the harsh tone of her voice. "Maybe I would if Jeremy was the one telling me what was going on with him and his girlfriend. Or if Bex was telling it to me but this is you telling me and quite frankly right now I still don't see how it's any of your damn business. I know you're friends with Bex and not overly fond of Jeremy but Really? You're going to sit here and act like it's my fault his priorities aren't perfect? You're going to put it off on me to fix it when you're forgetting that neither one of them deem it necessary to even let me in on the fact that they're fighting. "
"It's my business because it's my best friend." Callas turned to look at Chloe, the planes of her face tight with anger. "And I am going to put it on you to fix it when your best friend is fucking with mine. Do you honestly expect Bex to come to you or do you not understand that she's pissed at you, too?"
“To fix it? Because all of a sudden Jeremy isn’t his own person and does everything I tell him too? I can’t fix a problem between the two of them That’s between them!” Chloe exclaimed incredulously as she arched a brow at Callas. She wasn’t going to even comment on Bex’s feelings towards her right then. To Chloe it didn’t matter that Bex was mad at her. That wouldn’t change the fact that she felt like it was a situation she had no business getting in the middle of.
"You can fix it," Callas said flatly. "Or at least help with it. If you're the problem between them then maybe you ought to tell Jeremy he can't make you his number one priority over everything else in his life."
"Wow, Really?" Chloe's voice was dry as she regarded Callas with a thoroughly annoyed expression on her face. "Last I checked telling someone they have to change their priorities can't make them do it . maybe BEX needs to tell him that. Because really? if that's the problem? You can't pin it on me. I didn't do anything. That's a bigger problem than just me and you know it."
"She has," Callas replied. "She's told him that and he's not listening." She was pretty sure Bex had been clear about wanting to be a bigger part of Jeremy's life than the girlfriend he opted to think about every so often rather than his best friend, even if Bex hadn't said all of it to her. "I don't understand why you won't help him if he's screwing this up, Chloe. And he is screwing it up."
"Because I can't force him to talk to her Callas." Chloe rolled her eyes in actual exasperation as she spoke. They weren't getting anywhere with this and that was very evident. "I can say he needs to change his priorities and I can say he needs to spend less time with me." Which she was fairly sure wasn't the issue since they hadn't had a ton of time together latley anyway. "But me telling him those things isn't going to change his actions. Have you met Jeremy? Great guy but stubborn as all hell when he doesn't want to change things."
No, Chloe couldn't force him. Callas was, however, pretty sure that if she tried, she'd get Jeremy to see things differently; if Chloe couldn't see that she held that power, though, then there wasn't any point in doing this. They were just both becoming agitated for no reason whatsoever, and Callas wasn't helping Bex. She let out a breath, opting to release her anger rather than continue. "Okay. If that's what you believe, then fine. I give."
"None of our business Callas." Chloe pointed out as she sat in her desk chair and pulled out the things she had to go over, effectively closing herself off for any response for her. "And it's really none of mine considering no one has decided to share it with me at all."
Actually, Callas thought, considering that Bex kept everything clammed up inside her and Jeremy...Jeremy was being a stupid fucker about all of this, it was very much their business. In her perspective, she and Chloe were in the best position to help fix things. They could actually do the arguing out and maneuvering that both Jeremy and Bex needed without involving either party directly. Chloe herself could do most of it without even involving Callas. But she said none of it, merely shrugged. "Okay," she said, and then added, "I'm going for a run. I'll see you later."
