"Yes, it was." Nathaniel agreed with the Natives about his introduction being painful. "I'm better with books than people," he admitted then took the wine list from the waiter without looking, found his selection quickly, pointed to it, and then returned the menu without giving the younger lad a glance. Didn't mean he hadn't been paying attention, he was just bad with wait-staff. "Yes, I apologize for being only on time and not early," Nate said with an earnest tone. "Brayden's day didn't go on nearly as well as mine," he offered without much explanation.
"It's normal," Forge chimed in even though he wasn't going to until Nathaniel got to the point. "He'll get caught up in no time," Jon started then looked toward his daughter. "I'd have mentioned it earlier but I forgot with all the other... excitement." Jon told Eva. "Brayden tested lower than he'd expected, but that's only because Xavier's standards are higher than any other school in the world," Forge said, the longtime teacher and mentor unable to ignore the topic. "He's a bright kid, but he'd been going to sub-par schools. Couple months and he'll be right where he wants to be. Assuming he'll still be here," Jon added because this dinner might seriously effect that possibility.
"Yes, well none-the-less, he needed some attention after school today," Nathaniel said just to finish his explanation on his near tardiness. The mutant's eyes flicked over when the waiter returned with his wine and stayed quiet until the room was once again private. "You two," Nathaniel started gesturing to the pair of Silverclouds before him. "Caught me off guard. A rarity, I assure you. Before I came here, I thought I had a complete understanding of the mystic world of Northchester as it existed. At least, what of it wasn't hidden. I did not expect to find the most powerful family in the town to be hiding a magical background - let alone such a powerful one. Anyway, I can tell you're a man of few words so I won't keep you waiting any longer," Nate took in a long breath and steadied himself. "I've learned some of your past and the 'baggage' you've carried. And I'm sure you've known that this 'baggage' will not stop once you've left this plane of existence. It will remain a blight on your family's line," Nate said in as plain but shrouded words as possible. "What if I told you that Eva has the power to free your family from this curse?"
"I'd believe you, but I'm sure you're about to say you'd have to teach her," Jon interjected.
"Yes, because it just makes sense. I was led here for a reason. Maybe to find this missing girl, maybe to find the people that led her astray, maybe neither. Perhaps my role is to teach Eva so that she can do those things. I don't know yet." Nathaniel answered quickly, then turned to Eva. "You're hesitant to embrace your abilities because of what happened to your father. Because the power I'm talking about is just like any other power. It can always backfire, but that doesn't stop you from using your mutation - because you've been trained."
