[Thread] Of Bugs and Men Characters: Doug Ramsey & Karolina Dean. Where: Visitor's Center, Columbia University. What: Doug and Karolina go poking at the bug corpse. When: Day 12. Morning. Rating: Low.
The carcass didn't smell. Not yet. The decomposition had set in but the climate and the natural anatomy of the bug itself made it so it was still very much intact. Doug had been prepared for the possibility that the body could've been eaten during the attack, and was probably the only person at camp who was actually happy to find that wasn't the case.
He approached cautiously, always ready for possible changes. A quick overview cleared the body of any injuries, which played to the possibility that it could be playing possum. For a couple of days, sure, but they knew very little about the bug anatomy to know what they were and weren't capable of. It could've, he wondered, played a part in the attack. It could've been a shining beacon of their location. It could be a spy for all everyone knew.
So that was why he were here. To find out as much as he could about their quote-unquote enemy. If he had the know-how's, he would love to dissect the creature to see its innards. What secrets it could hold - he certainly intended to find out one way or another.
For now, he could only rely on his eyes to gather information. Standing next to the towering bug, he had to admit he was awed by its presence and it wasn't long before he felt sympathy for the creature. A mindless drone knowing nothing but hunger and destruction of their queen's command. Even after the attack, he still wished for a peaceful resolution. Violence was a new language to him. They - or the queen, at least, possessed some level of intelligence. Could they really not be reasoned with?
What a joke he was, the others must thought. But his conviction wouldn't waver so easily.
"Sorry about this, buddy," he muttered quietly to himself as he laid his hand on the thorax. "I hope it didn't hurt... but you aren't going to like what I want to do."
