Beneath his mask, Peter frowned. "I don't have to prove anything. The only crime committed was breaking and entering, and with the other guys there for the police to find, there's not to say that you were there at all. Anything I have would be circumstantial, but since you didn't take anything, why waste my time?"
Firing a web to a higher story, Spidey hung upside down next to her. Her mocking tone annoyed him, but he answered her honestly anyway. "No. Not anybody. Some people are born rotten, and can't be changed, no matter what you do."
He almost left off the second part in his annoyance, but looking at her, Pete softened. He could be a sucker for a pretty face - especially if broken wings were attached. "You, on the other hand? If you actually wanted to, I believe you could be rehabilitated. You've come close a few times; I think part of you even wants to. I just don't think you believe you can do it."
Flipping back over, he landed on his feet. "Laugh about that if you want, but someone like you is way too good to be slumming it with the other criminals like this. You deserve better than a one-way ticket to jail; because as good as you are, you can't go forever without getting caught, and the last thing I want is to see you behind bars."
