In 2005, after the Scarlet Witch eliminated the majority of the mutant population, humanity decided it wasn't enough. Mutants were dead, sure, or depowered, Genosha was still smoking, but there was a push for more. For totality. For something...final. It started with coordinated attacks - on the Xavier mansion in Salem Center, on Mutant Towns all over the world, on what remained of Muir Island, of Genosha, but the sight of children burning wasn't enough.

So someone came up with a cure.

More devastating that Rao's. More permanent too.

And it was airborne.

By the end of 2006, the cure covered the world. Mutantkind was no more. For good this time. The mutants that remained after M-Day found themselves powerless, no mutant children were born, and now, everyone was just like everyone else.

The cure had one side-effect, though. It didn't just affect mutants. Anyone with powers, be it from radioactive spider bites or cosmic radiation, they suddenly found themselves to be...normal. Common. The world had no superheroes anymore, but it also had to supervillains. Tony Stark kept the Avengers running with only a few, non-powered heroes, just in case, but by 2010, even they had disbanded.

For thirty years, the world was frighteningly normal. Only regular crime. Only humans doing horrible things to other humans, but then, one day, a man woke up. A man with the ability to change the world. Literally.

That day, Franklin Richards remembered how it used to be, he made a wish.

Suddenly, heroes and villains who had been powerless for over thirty years found themselves able to leap tall buildings in a single bound or read minds or turn invisible. Children who should have been extraordinary suddenly, in one bright white flash of light, discovered powers they didn't understand and couldn't control.

Thirty years ago, the world changed. Today, it changed again.

For better or for worse.

X-PROJECT: AN X-MEN MOVIEVERSE RPG

X-Project is an X-Men movieverse RPG on Livejournal. Set after X2, the game has been running since May 5, 2003 and uses a combination of in-character journals and email/IM logs. The game would prefer applicants to consider available NPCs and socks, but applications for new/previously unplayed characters will be considered, especially if they're students under 17. To help give you an idea of each character's history, a series of "cards" for each available character/NPC is available and, from there, applicants can easily reach the character's wiki page.

Readers are highly encouraged! If you're looking for X-Men based entertainment, X-Project welcomes you to read along and enjoy the ride!

The year is 1963.

It is a time in history like no other. There are those who feel that they are standing on the dawn of a golden age while others feel that the threat of nuclear war will tear the nation apart. The fire of the Civil Rights Movement is beginning to blaze with men and women standing up against oppression at home even as a new fight looms ahead in Southeast Asia.

Against this backdrop of conflict and change, a man named Charles Xavier is searching for others of his kind.

Xavier sees the turmoil ahead. He believes that a war against mutants may soon be coming--he sees it in the reaction of Americans to the threat of the bomb and the fear of mutation. His friend, Erik Lehnsherr, argues that violence should be met with violence, that mutants should strike first and enslave those who would harm them. But Xavier is not a man quick to anger and instead, he is preparing a sanctuary for those who would band together for protection. It is not children that he seeks but men and women--in case the battle is brought to their front door.

As movements march on and wars erupt, Xavier’s dream turns from fantasy to necessity. Where will it lead mutantkind?

MOST WANTED: Warren Worthington III (Angel), Piotr Rasputin (Colossus), Sean Cassidy (Banshee), John Proudstar (Thunderbird), Shiro Yoshida (Sunfire), Betsy Braddock (Psylocke)... and those not listed on our taken list.
