Rogue was freaked out. As was expected considering the front row seats she and all of her friends got to Magneto's power trip and Wolverine's public torture. Kurt had shielded her eyes from seeing the worst of it, but there were still flashes in her memory of Logan, the way he looked before and after. And then when they hauled him away. She knew Wolverine was tough, but there had been so much blood. How could anyone keep going after that? Rogue was replaying the events over and over in her heard (which was not helpful in the least) and at some point she needed to pull her shit together and make up her mind. This was not panning out how she expected, at all. And she couldn't imagine that this what people expected when they bought into Magneto's message of peace.
She had barely seen the Hellions save for one or two faces since arriving at the Asteroid, but she needed to speak to them. Fuck. No doubt she and the other Xavier kids were being monitored and closely. So, after spending the night of Wolverine's torture in a catatonic state back in their family quarters with Kurt, part because of what happened but also because Rogue was furious with Mystique. Rogue woke up the next day resolved to getting their asses in gear, get Wolverine, get off the Asteroid and figure out where the hell they were keeping Haroun.
She still had to report to the engineering pool that morning where she met John and mumbled, tidbits of her plan here and there when she thought no one was looking and when they weren't being sent on opposite jobs - who to include and where to meet. They could discuss the rest of the details that night and hammer out a plan. But they needed the other Hellions on board or else they were just a couple of pissed off kids with no plan of attack.
She had decided that Mystique apartment wasn't safe and that an alternate location would be needed for their meeting. Some place private, discrete and off the beaten path. Opportunity presented itself when Tabby suggested they use the kitchen stockroom. And that afternoon during lunch they firmed up their plan.
Rogue took all of the calls she was assigned that day, where normally she would flake on half, because it would take her all throughout the Asteroid. She'd be able to cover more territory that way and pass her message along. The Hellions were easy to communicate with, Sage had taught them well how to express messages without explicitly using words. Or how using certain words could convey meaning that might be mistaken for ordinary, everyday conversation. Rogue was good at this. She wasn't winning any espionage awards, but she knew how to blend in and seem innocuous.
She was the first to arrive in the kitchen, making some excuse up that evening about why she wasn't going to be around. She was still very upset about Wolverine and just wanted to be alone. It wasn't a lie, just a half truth. They decided Kurt would come up with a different excuse altogether to seem less suspicious, so by the time he got back from the day care, she was already gone. She kept the door locked and waited on pins and needles for the rest to join her.
She hoped they would join her.
