Characters: Noriko Ashida & Victor Von Doom
NPCs: Citizens
Location: Near Times Square, NY
Timeline: November 29, 2012
Description: Victor, meet Noriko. She needs some help.
Rating: PG-13

It was just another bustling day in Manhattan when he first electronic blips began. It started with a flicker of lights, a distortion in billboards, phones going dead, and then suddenly a surge of electricity rose from a lone alley and swept across three heavily populated blocks. The air was static and anything that took a charge was overloaded. Including the generators. Power was officially (and mysteriously) gone.

Noriko slumped down in the alley, completely drained. She had gone a couple of days without food, longer without something to curb her abilities. No pills meant no control and the discharge was greater than any she had felt before. Everything tingled, numbed by the sudden expulsion of the electricity she had reluctantly consumed. Though alone in the alley, she could hear the chatter of the confused and angry. Whatever she had done, it had caused a stir. She just hoped no one found out she was the one responsible. Being on the blunt end of a businessman's tech rage was never pleasant.

She struggled to rise, but her body was spent. Hopefully she had picked the right alley to pass out in.

There was a voice and it seemed to be coming closer. That wasn't good. Noriko opened her eyes and shot a look over to whoever was creeping in. The man was not the sort she expected to sulk in alleys, which meant that he his intentions were good-natured. Hopefully. She set her jaw and tried to force herself up. She managed to make it a few inches before hitting the cold ground once more.

"I'm fine," she grunted. "Just...go. I'm alright." The closer her came to her, the less charge the air seemed to hold. She pulled her fingers through her electric blue hair and did her best to look stern, though it faltered with exhaustion.

"Oh I very much doubt that," Victor replied, his tone lacking much in the way of patience. He crouched down closer to her, studying her body but not touching her. He had some theories about what she was doing in the alley, but only one held much interest for him.

"Did you cause this blackout?" he asked, his eyes curious as he gazed down at her face. He knew a great many young people who could cause far more damage than this, and if she had lost control in such as way as this, it behooved him to bring her back to the school for further study.

She shot him a glare, her body hunched in a defensive position. "Touch me and you'll find out." The readiness of her threat may have been lost given the fact she seemed glued to the floor, but deliverance was what counted, and she sounded sincere.

One last failed attempt to rise had Noriko slamming her head back against the brick wall in temporary defeat. She had not expelled that much energy in months. "It was an accident, so quit rubbernecking. There's nothing to see."

"Oh I think there's a great deal to see...I am a scientist, you see, so you'll have to forgive my curiosity." Victor crouched down near Noriko, just outside of arm's length. "And I am a teaching assistant at a school for children with unique abilities, so you might consider our meeting fortuitous..."

He looked her over, assessing her physical state. "I can get you a bed for the night and the opportunity to get some help for your...accidents. We can take a cab."

"Lucky me," she drawled. His offer was tempting, though. It had been months since she had slept in a bed. Hell, the only walls she had seen were those keeping her out, not securely inside.

"Alright, fine," she agreed, holding her hand out to him in a show of good faith. "But you owe me sushi, too." A good meal would be enough to keep her straight for a few more days.

Victor helped her up to her feet, letting the girl lean on him as they moved to the street. "Sushi it is, then." He was sure they had a station for that in the glorified food court that was the Stark School cafeteria. He hailed a cab, glaring at the driver who seemed suspicious of his fare when Victor helped the sick girl into the cab. He rattled off the location of the school, and soon they were off.

"Are you from the area?" He hadn't heard of any disturbances of the sort she'd caused, but maybe she was controlling the outbursts up to this point.

Loathe as she was to accept the help, Noriko had little choice but to lean against the young man. Her steps were slow, but with his assistance, it did not take them long to reach an open cab.

She scooted to the far side and dropped her head to the glass, staring out the window. The confused pedestrians, lost without electricity, actually caused her to smirk. Rats on a sinking ship.

"No. Not exactly. Too many people." Even more electronics. "I was just looking for someone."

"Well not to worry. We'll have you fixed up and ready to find whatever it is you're looking for soon enough--unless the school Headmasters wish to have a word with you about all this." Victor gestured to the lights around them (or lack thereof). "I can assure you that conversation will be painless if it comes to that."

Her attention snapped to him. "You're taking me to a school?" She inwardly scolded herself for not asking about their destination before. The thought of a good meal and a real bed had distracted her. "What kind of school are we talking about?"

"A school for gifted individuals...and we have a sister school that is for mutants to get an education while they learn how to control their abilities," Victor remarked, shrugging his shoulders. "They're both quite good schools..."

Her mouth twisted in quiet contemplation. She had not set foot in a school since the day this electrical fiasco had taken control of her life. She wasn't sure how she felt about going back, even if it was as a temporary science experiment.

But a deal was a deal and she was looking forward to a few good meals in exchange for being a test subject. "Oh. So what do you teach?"

"I'm a recent graduate," Victor informed her, pulling out his wallet as they approached the school. "But I serve as a teaching assistant to the science department. Engineering is my specialty..." They pulled up to a picturesque building, and he paid the driver, sliding out of the cab and making sure Noriko was still in tow before pulling out his cellphone to notify his roommates that he would have some company.

"You can take a rest in my room, and I'll figure out the logistics of your stay with the staff."
