Head buried deep into her knees, Yuuki sat silently on the edge of the beach, small arms wrapped tight around her slight frame. Her long hair draped her body, obscuring her face, which was hidden anyhow. She didn't move. In fact it was only the very slight rise and fall of her chest that indicated she was alive and breathing at all.
Sakura petals sat pooled around her, coating the tip of her head and back. Above her, even in the night air the bright color of the out of season flowers softly glowed, illuminating the small section on the edge of the beach. She had become vaguely aware when they first began to fall earlier in the day but had ignored them. Her emotions tied into the environment around her, affecting it so deeply that the pain tugging her wounded heart took root into the tree she'd sat beneath for the day. She couldn't control the feeling of loneliness and sorrow.
It just spilled from within her.
Lifting her head, she softly scrubbed away the salty liquid that pooled and fell from her clear, brown eyes. Her chest hurt. It was as though someone had dug a pit in the center of her heart and had left it open for anyone to trample upon. And that was because a piece of her heart was missing. When she had descended the stairs that morning for breakfast a ball of dread had twisted her stomach. Something had felt off. When Kaname and Aidou had disappeared it had felt the same way too; a foreboding even before she had given herself time to search for the familiar presence of the other vampire resident in her household.
Her mother, Juri Kuran, was gone. But that wasn't enough. In that very same morning, Yori, her dearest best friend had vanished as well. The two of them had disappeared from the dome, once more returning back to their home world. That should have been a good thing, and although sad to have lost people so important to her she could have dealt with the loss a little more gracefully; but not considering what returning meant, at least for one of them. Unlike Yori, who deserved a life of happiness outside of prison, her mother had nothing to return to.
Nothing, that was to say, except her death.
Numbed, Yuuki stared blankly at the waves that gently lapped the shoreline. First it was her mother and then Yori immediately after. Kaname, Aidou, Ruka, and her father had all disappeared before them. One by one everyone she knew was disappearing from her life, and some of them she knew she would never see again. Thoughts haunted she swallowed thickly. The bloody memory of that day in which her mother had sacrificed herself replayed over and over again in her mind, like a movie that was stuck on repeat. It made her sick to her stomach. No matter how long she would live, she knew that she would never be able to forget that memory again.
The steady stream of tears silently increased. She'd just lost her mother for a second time, and was just as powerless today to stop it as she had been back then.
