I understand why Guilford wanted the name of the person who could help him. But [frowning more] you said that after you'd given him that information, he told you that Lelouch had the power of geass, and that he'd put geasses on himself and Euphie. He volunteered it freely, even though I asked him to leave well enough alone.
[and now he has to keep an especially close eye on Guilford and Conrad to see if Lelouch does anything to them. if Lelouch doesn't know already, he will soon. Gino brushes his hair back, and shakes his head. Guilford may have thought Conrad was rational enough not to overreact, and he hasn't, but that still doesn't mean telling him was right or merited]
You ask good questions. I don't really have the answers to them, but I do know that Lelouch isn't the type who lets a mistake happen more than once. They must have precautions against it. [someone who orchestrated two years of rebellion against a powerful empire must be a decent planner] As to whether or not he'll abuse it-- [shrugs] I don't trust him. That's why I watch him. If he does misstep, I'll be there.
Which is why doing anything differently is a bad idea. [leaning forward again, bracing his arms on the desk. soberly] I would never tell you that your concerns are unfounded. But until and unless he does something wrong, taking any action is only going to risk bringing these old enmities back to the surface.
Apparently -- Guilford still won't let them go. So now that you're involved, I'm going to ask you, too. [a rueful smile] Please keep this information to yourself, and try not to take sides. We'll keep our eyes open for any abuse of power, and I won't blame you if you want to take precautions with your king. But I don't want to give him reasons to abuse it.
