You know, most highly intelligent psychopaths that I've come across usually want to make sure their statement is perfectly clear. They view their surroundings as inferior to them, most likely caused by a percieved lack of understanding and as such, they're all too keen on explaining themselves. Explain their motives or their world view, their cause.
That goes doubly for ritualistic killings - you don't go through all that trouble just to have the press think you're nothing but a deranged killer. Oh no, you want the message to be perfectly clear, spelled out in blood if you can... not dismissed as the act of a crazed mind.
