Hmm. I wonder if projection technology could be utilized there. If the right part of the brain is monitored, the subject can display images on a screen that are extremely close, visually, to the actual scene in question. Memories would be easier to project than imaginary or hypothetical scenes, I would think, although there might be a few glitches. An AI could easily fill in the blanks, given the rest of the data, to make a complete set.
Other, generic environments could be programmed easily enough, as well.
