Sentience is the last warden. Also an AI. It brought it's creators—the engineers—to the prison for kidnapping. Cute, right? Anyway, they're prisoners now, but they also managed to kick Sentience out and install Acumen. Then Sentience got a body and now apparently there's a coup and we're in it.

That's just the synopsis. I'd tell you the book, but I'd wait for the movie.
