After my mother died and I ended up on the streets, I had nothing but the clothes on my back. I thought my life was over -- that I would starve, or freeze, or that someone would attack me or kidnap me.
I'm very grateful that the people of the Lower Quarter looked after me. Every day, I'm grateful. But I have nothing but respect for people who didn't have anyone looking out for them, and who still managed to get by.
