[ the one thing is—whether izaya realizes it or not—is that nothing has truly gone to his head at all. it's simply acting. purposeful, nastiness in the pathetic attempt to throw someone off. pathetic, but an attempt, either way. wut i say about dat horrible trolling ... :'(
'a bit of temper' is an understatement. had alois figured out the headset much, much sooner, his presenting himself would have been ... less than stable, to put it mildly. wearing himself out and staring crap he detests right in the face is something he's always had to do, though. (doesn't mean his shoddy clinging to 'all right' will last very long, but all things considered, he's doing his best.)
now, izaya's left him dumbfounded. it isn't a difficult thing to accomplish, but he sits, staring, a bit more wide-eyed than before. he isn't sure if he wants to laugh, or cry. say, 'You're something else,' or 'Shut up.' (nevermind that he could close the connection of his own free will. he's not used to this technology; it doesn't cross his mind. this is different than being in person, having the option to run into other rooms and slam doors.)
he feels very, very mixed up, but he still wants to knock the teeth out of his head. regardless, as much as things sting right now, there's something that keeps striking a chord. izaya loves the human race, and alois is staring at him, disregarding most of their entire conversation all ready.
he doesn't say anything for a minute, then another half of one. but, after that: ]
... Are you not one? A human being. [ it must sound stupid, but the curiosity is genuine enough, and probably so left-field there can't be any hiding that he's really serious. ]
