Jack is quite possibly the most excited anyone here has ever seen him. Yesterday, he was prepared for the absolute worst to happen (probably everything here imploding and everyone getting left braindead in their bodies) and now, today? They have a second chance, a chance to do everything they didn't do the first time around, a chance to live and be happy, wherever and with whomever they want!

It's more than he ever really expected to get.

It's tempered by the fact he's going to have to leave so many of the good friends - and adoptive family - he's made here, but even that can't get him down. He'll miss them, but he'll move on as he always does, and he'll hold them in his heart along with everyone else he's lost.

After all, they've got a chance to be happy too.

This is a weird day and Chuck can't help but feel torn about it. Yes, it's going to be wonderful to go back home with Ton, reclaim her life, reconnect with her aunts and get started on making some kids. On the other hand, there's a good chance she'll be leaving some really wonderful adoptive kids behind, and even more so she's guaranteed to lose the prison family she's found along the way. So many are already gone, and now it seems unavoidable that she'll never see them again.

It's unusual to see Chuck's relentless enthusiasm dampened, but that's exactly what she is today - damp. Soggy, even, waterlogged in her soul. She slides up to him in an unguarded moment, hooking an arm around his.

"Weird, huh? We haven't even been here a year and it still feels like forever."

He glances down at her as he feels her arm slide through his, taking in her unusual melancholy, and gives her arm a little squeeze.

"They flung a lot at us in that time. It does make it feel longer," he says, and gives her a gentle look. "Are you okay?"

"Mhm." She nods. "It's just a lot, you know? I'm ready to go home, get on with my life - but this has been my life for a really long time. There's a lot I can't take with me."

Like, perhaps, the no-longer-quite-a-puppy anxiously pressing himself against her leg.

"Yeah, I know." With a sad smile, he reaches down to fondle the puppy's ears. "Lots we're going to be leaving behind - but oh, it is going to be a relief not to have to wonder what weirdness we're going to be facing every other day or so!"

He gives her a sideways look. "So, you're taking Ton home with you? How's that going to do down with Ned?"

"Yeah? From what I recall, we both face plenty of weirdness back home too."

A different brand, perhaps, but weird nonetheless. Then again, dealing with strange murders will practically be a comfort after all the dinosaurs and flooding.

"And Ned is just going to have to learn to live with it. I'm sure he'll be upset, but honestly it's not my job to tip-toe around his fragile emotions and put my life on hold just because he can't handle the pressure."

So there.

They were never super close, but they did have that weird flash-forward episode and you don't forget something like that. Besides, everyone is so weepy in their goodbyes that Wade feels almost left out — he's only been here about a month and a half and he's an asshole to begin with so there aren't that many tearful goodbyes to have. Jack seems like a decent candidate, though.

"Wanna sign my yearbook?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Heh, give me everyone! Or I'll just have to come and find them instead! :-D

Certainly, his relationship with Wade has been one of the strangest here, most of their getting to know each other done even more virtually than everything else and never quite sure how much of it was real or not, but they had some good times in that imagined future and there's that connection with Kirk that links them both too.

"Only if you'll sign mine," he chuckles, though he is rather wishing there were some way of taking physical memories with him. He's got quite a few mementoes here he's going to be sad to lose again.

"How are you feeling? Know what you're going to do?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

consider it done!

"Oh yeah - I'm going to get my life back. This filler episode really can't end soon enough, if you ask me."

He's got a girl back home, a lot to catch up on and although leaving Kirk behind stings, they always knew it was going to end this way.

"You? Where are you headed, sailor?"

He nods, understanding. "I'm glad you've got the chance to go back to what you left behind," he says, with a smile. After all he's been through, Wade deserves whatever chance at happiness he can get.

"Me, I'm headed out to show Ianto the stars, and Spike too, if he'll come." He grins. "My second chance involves not going home at all, if I can help it!"

Well, we'll see how long it lasts. Considering his luck lately, probably not long at all - gotta get that sequel made somehow!

"Breaking out on your own, huh? I can respect that. You think you can handle hanging around those two in the long run?"

Wasn't great in the future, as far as he can remember.

Oh boy. Reid can't remember the last time he talked to Jack without an undercurrent of tension running between them and part of him wants to just skip over this part of his to-do list, but you say goodbye. That's what you do, no matter how hard or how unpleasant. It's not like they'll ever see each other again, so perhaps it's even more important to settle things.

He's visibly nervous when he approaches, idly fidgeting with the sleeve of his shirt.

"I was starting to lose hope we'd ever leave."

He really has no need to be nervous. Sure, there's been tension, but it's all water under the bridge now as far as Jack's concerned. It's not like they're competing at all any more, either for a girl or command of the dome, or anything.

He gives Reid a smile as he wanders over. "Hey, Reid. Planning on heading back home? Give Penelope a big squeeze from me, if you remember!"

Oh, he has every reason to be nervous, always and forever. It's such an integral part of his personality at this point, aside from a few rare occasions when he finds some sort of confidence. Those moments will never happen around Jack. Just resign to it.

"I'll do my best." He smiles, warily. "Where are you headed?"

"Thanks," he smiles. He always had a soft spot for Penelope.

The smile grows wider, as it does every time he remembers he's actually getting out of here at last. "Out to the stars with Ianto," he says, gesturing skywards as if the sky here were actually real. "And Spike too, if he'll come."

He sobers then, as he realises: "If you're going home, doesn't that mean you'll be going right back to - you know." To Maeve and all the horror of that.

It wasn't even a case of will-they-won't-they. Nothing was ever going to happen, but Jack's been here for what feels like forever and Aidan's been thinking about him naked for about as long and that has to count for something, damn it! Besides, his mom taught him to be polite and say goodbye before you leave. If they're actually leaving, then that's what he's doing.

"Hey, Jack."

It might have happened eventually, if they'd been stuck here long enough for Jack to really get bored even with the possibilities offered by a threesome with a vampire - or for a night of supreme drunkenness, or the right kind of glitch.

Whatever, Jack will of course be happy to provide wank material for as long as Aidan carries the memory of him in his head!

"Aidan!" He turns from gazing out around the dome, watching the people he's grown close to prepare to separate and depart. He always has a fond smile for Aidan. "I gather you're heading off with the lovely Rebecca tomorrow?"

"Yeah... that's th' plan. Really hopin' it'll actually work out that way."

And considering that if it does work, he'll be heading home to get married and make roughly six babies in quick succession before retiring to a wonderful domestic life out in the boons, keeping Jack in the back of his head might be the closest he'll ever get to some male company again. Not that he's complaining. It just... would've been nice, or terrifying, or both.

"How 'bout you? You goin' home?"

"Oh hell, no, not if I can help it!" He gives Aidan a rueful smile. "I'd already got as far away from Earth as I could, before I ended up here. No, I'm taking Ianto off to see the universe, and Spike too I hope. Neither of them have long left if they go back to their own timelines and Spike... I don't know, I don't have so much influence there, but there's no way I'm giving Ianto up again."

"Hey, uh, take care of yourself, okay?" Kanji looks like his usual shuffling, awkward self. Then again, this is his way of saying goodbye, and that he'll miss him and maybe he wasn't such a bad fake dad after all. They both know he isn't good with words but hopefully he gets the message across.

"Always," he lies glibly, with a grin, and gathers the awkward teenager into a big bear hug. "You take care of yourself, and that little gang of yours too, eh? Make me proud!"

You know what? Screw it, he's returning that hug. There have been a hell of a lot of times Jack could have been a jerk to him here and instead he's been nothing but cool. That earns a hug in Kanji's book. "Yeah, you too. And, uh, thanks. For everything."
