It's- more complicated than that. [ He prods the pancake again, cutting off a piece with his fork. ] Nothing random about it, she picked me and I wasn't exactly fighting it tooth and nail. But... if you'd met her, you'd understand. She's hard to say no to.

I'm glad you don't regret it. I'd like to say I'd still love you if you were mortal but being a vampire is such a part of who you are. You'd be an entirely different person if you had turned up here before you changed and frankly I like who you are.

No one interesting. [Just some dumb kid who got into trouble but who wasn't?] I just wanted to get away, same as you. I never really got on with anyone in my family except my sister and as soon as my dad died I got out of there. Went to London, started over, pretended I came from somewhere I didn't. Sometimes I visit, if my niece or nephew has a birthday or something like that but mostly I just steer clear. Too many memories of being stuck in a place I hated.

Of course I am, and I'll be accepting compliments on the accent now. [Not really but don't pretend you don't love it.] It was mostly because I wasn't happy, I suppose. We weren't well off, I didn't get on with my dad, I never really felt like I fit in, that sort of thing. I didn't expect to come back to Cardiff after I left but Torchwood London was destroyed and I needed access to its technology to keep Lisa alive. It's the only reason I came back and persuaded Jack to give me a job.
