Huh... That's weird. It looks like the whole arrival schedule is off. Unless it's another glitch.

[He wasn't going to mention the missing people for now unless someone else brought it up. Duo didn't like losses.]

Guess this means I might be giving out baskets on a daily basis now.

There have been tries. Quite a few, in fact. Most have resulted in some pretty freaky results. One shut down the entire dome for several days. If you've ever been in a submarine or a spaceship that loses power, that's where things went. It wasn't pleasant.

Other attempts have triggered weird things like changes in our ages, or suddenly having animal ears and tails, or losing our senses like sight or hearing. You mess with a virtual world, and weird stuff happens to you. It just makes sense, I guess.

But, yeah. It was designed to make people think it was completely real. So, it definitely has rules to mimic the real world. Hunger, pain, fatigue, all of it.

That sounds more like the administration, the wardens, pushing back against tampering. Which is good to know.

I've experienced something like this before. In the other version, there was a way out, a way back to consciousness through a shared discrepancy in the reality. A building that wasn't supposed to be there.

But theres no common thread like that so far as I've seen. Which means if there is an exit, it's well hidden.

Maybe. But the glitches like that sometimes happen on their own, no hacking trigger required. So, it could be that the system is just that delicately balanced that a small poke in the wrong spot sets the whole thing off kilter.

[Duo shrugged.]

We had some doors appear a while back, and I know people are watching for them to come back. We haven't seen them since. But that's what made us all figure out this place was fake. That's when the Wardens came clean about it all.

Either way, even in the "real world" where our actual bodies were, we couldn't find a way out. It was like a big self-contained building... no windows, no doors. Just stasis pods with people who hadn't woken up. Apparently, the only people who woke up were the ones who went through the doors.

But, like I said, those doors haven't come back, yet.

That's some useful information. I presune if we can get the doors to open. We can find a way out, to get avvess to the technology that brought us here.

Another attempt to see what can be done wouldn't hurt. Did you happen to have any engineers or technology specialists out with you, preauming of course you walked through a door.

In any case thats more a lead than I started with. [He just really wants to help, and he figures he knows what he's doing.]

Nah. From what I've heard from the people who actually did go through the doors, they didn't find a way out on the other side, and then the "problem" was fixed, and they all woke up back here in the dome.

I dunno who all went. We kind of all ended up in different spots, based on where the pods holding our bodies were. So, not everyone saw everyone else. And the people on this side only thought the people involved in going through the doors had disappeared from the dome for a day.

They covered it really well.

A day might not be enough time to find what we need. The answers have to be out there, unless they're in here. This is basically just a slightly more secure version of the simulation the Dominators used on my friends and I. Even a more sophisticated version, I'd say.

I doubt we were intended to stay for the short term anyway. Is there any information on who is actually behind them? Their motives?

Oh, yeah... they're around. Ever since the "big reveal", [He says this completely with air quotes.] the Wardens have been pretty forthcoming with information about the place. Today's a little weird, though. Might wanna wait until tomorrow before you go asking around.

Like I said... it seems like a glitch.

Good advice. I've only been here, for what? Twelve hours? I think I'll settle in first before trying to escape. Get my barings.

Either way you've been pretty informative.

Should probably introduce myself. I'm Ray.

That's probably your best bet.

If it's not me it'll probably be Felicity.

[He nods. Pretty much.]

I take it you've been here a while?

About a year, give or take.

Felicity, huh? I've been talking to her, too.

Anything on how long this place has operated?

She's from the same reality as I am, only a little over two years prior.

As informatove as you've been I'm not surprised shed ask you questions.

Well, in the previous dome, I think we were the third generation. That said, I have no idea how long each of those previous generations lasted. But, this one's been going for a year, and we've been here in this particular dome for... I guess... two hundred days? More than that, actually, but yeah. The day number is the number of days passed in the current generation, so we've definitely been around a while.

For me, I've been here about a year now. I came in around Day 60-something, if I remember correctly.

Which begs the question, why are they moving around so much? I can't say I fully understand what they're trying to accomplish by abducting us.

Also, is there a ratio between people you'd consider average or heroic towards people who would actually have belonged in prison?

That's quite a while to be gone from your friends or family.

It could be to make it harder for us to be found? [He shrugged.]

That's an interesting question. I'm not entirely sure, to be honest.

[He frowned a bit.] Yeah. I have a couple of friends here, but... I miss people back home.

Which assumes anyone can reach us. If were actually under water in another reality thats two degrees of difficulty. I know someone who could find us if he knew they we were missing.

Are there any peoole who actually actively cause harm?

[He sympathizes. He misses his team but its better if they werent brought here.]

What's your world like? Figured I'd ask.

That's where our 'replacements' come in. Supposedly drone beings take our places, but make more moral decisions than we do while somehow blending in so that no one we know suspects we've been replaced. Body snatchers stuff here.

There are some, but I think the majority are here on a... blurred line situation? Like, we did bad things, but for a good reason, and here we are.

Well, my world is like... my world? I mean, it's hard to describe without knowing what makes it really unique among others. I'm from the Earth Sphere... specifically a colony in the L2 Lagrange Cluster.

Which means figuring out we're gone is basically not going to be a thing. Because if they did, they'd probably find us through Cisco.

That makes me think their motives are more nefarious than just trying to confine us. But then I have no basis on where to start other than some twisted sense of justice on their part.

Space colony? That may be over a hundred years ahead of my world. Actually Lagrange point? Are there colonies on all the points or just L2 orbiting the moon?

Through who?

[He shrugged.] That theory's been floated a few times. Prison? Experiment? Someone's sick idea of an ant farm? It's all been brought up. We jokingly call this place the reverse fish bowl or reverse snow globe.

Five of them, actually. There's about three to five colonies at each, but more have been under construction at L3. We've been as far as the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, mostly to grab asteroids and bring them back into Earth's orbit to use as mining satellites. We're also working on terraforming Mars, but no one's left the solar system, yet. In fact, I don't think anyone's been past the belt, yet. It takes a long time to get out there, still.
