Huh... That's weird. It looks like the whole arrival schedule is off. Unless it's another glitch.

[He wasn't going to mention the missing people for now unless someone else brought it up. Duo didn't like losses.]

Guess this means I might be giving out baskets on a daily basis now.

They have an arrival scheduled here? That's like, super accommodating for a kidnapping, life stealing prison run by crazy AI.

Also, glitches; please tell me more.

Sort of? I mean... it was really just that this happened every four days. In our time. I don't know if that translated to any outside worlds at all.

As for glitches... well, that's a bit more complicated and not always on schedule. They vary in what happens, too. It's been hard to pin down a pattern, especially when people who might be putting together a pattern up and disappear sometimes.

Yeah, I'm gonna need all the information that's been gathered on these glitches. I might be able to put something together.

Well, I can give you what I've been able to maintain, and you're free to ask around.

Good luck.

It's more that the system and their minds become incompatible. So, their likeness is taken out of the prison simulation, and they're left physically in stasis like the rest of us, just without the whole prison dream thing going on. That goes until the system finds a way to repair the compatibility. Once it's fixed, they come back, but not always with memories of being here, and sometimes from a different point in time from their original visit.

No one's been able to figure out how or why it happens, and why some people come back like nothing changed, and some come back not remembering or from different points in time.

So basically if we do get out of here we could forget everything that happened here.

[She already suspected that actually. It's nice to have it generally confirmed.]

Do we know who the programmers are, or have any way of accessing the source code? For that matter has anyone seen the computer they're using to keep this up?

Pretty much.

[Duo considered that.]

They've introduced themselves, actually. It was a while ago. But, good luck getting that source code or seeing an actual computer terminal. It doesn't work that way.

Lemme guess. You're a hacker or a programmer, and you think you can do something someone hasn't already tried and failed doing. [He sounded mildly amused.] I may not know programming, but I know engineering. This place isn't as easy as you might think.

I think the former Defense Force had a few good hackers on it. You might want to ask around with them to see if one of them can help you out there, and, you know, see what they already tried? 'Cuz you probably know what the definition of insanity is.

That might actually be pretty helpful for a friend of mine.

[She'll have to let Ray know. Especially since it means that there won't be any alterations to the time stream no matter what he tells her. Though at the same time that's also kinda depressing. Of course, since she knows they end up friends it's not that depressing.]

Trust me, I don't think it's that easy. Pretty sure this is practically the perfect prison. Duel containment and the necessity of having someone on the outside to retrieve your body? Yeah, pretty perfect. That doesn't mean I'm not going to do my best to fight the system.

Defense Force, got it. I'll have to look them up. Know any names off the top of your head?

Baskets? I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we have to eat, while existing in a digital environment.

That's interesting.

You could try not eating? But I really wouldn't recommend it. They made this as close to real as possible. If you go on a hunger strike, you'll feel it.

That's disconcerting.

But then a simulation has to have rules, doesn't it?

Is there anyone you can point to who has a understanding about how this place works? Physics, programming? Has anyone cheated the system before?

Re: Video

There have been tries. Quite a few, in fact. Most have resulted in some pretty freaky results. One shut down the entire dome for several days. If you've ever been in a submarine or a spaceship that loses power, that's where things went. It wasn't pleasant.

Other attempts have triggered weird things like changes in our ages, or suddenly having animal ears and tails, or losing our senses like sight or hearing. You mess with a virtual world, and weird stuff happens to you. It just makes sense, I guess.

But, yeah. It was designed to make people think it was completely real. So, it definitely has rules to mimic the real world. Hunger, pain, fatigue, all of it.

Re: Video

That sounds more like the administration, the wardens, pushing back against tampering. Which is good to know.

I've experienced something like this before. In the other version, there was a way out, a way back to consciousness through a shared discrepancy in the reality. A building that wasn't supposed to be there.

But theres no common thread like that so far as I've seen. Which means if there is an exit, it's well hidden.

Re: Video

Maybe. But the glitches like that sometimes happen on their own, no hacking trigger required. So, it could be that the system is just that delicately balanced that a small poke in the wrong spot sets the whole thing off kilter.

[Duo shrugged.]

We had some doors appear a while back, and I know people are watching for them to come back. We haven't seen them since. But that's what made us all figure out this place was fake. That's when the Wardens came clean about it all.

Either way, even in the "real world" where our actual bodies were, we couldn't find a way out. It was like a big self-contained building... no windows, no doors. Just stasis pods with people who hadn't woken up. Apparently, the only people who woke up were the ones who went through the doors.

But, like I said, those doors haven't come back, yet.

That's some useful information. I presune if we can get the doors to open. We can find a way out, to get avvess to the technology that brought us here.

Another attempt to see what can be done wouldn't hurt. Did you happen to have any engineers or technology specialists out with you, preauming of course you walked through a door.

In any case thats more a lead than I started with. [He just really wants to help, and he figures he knows what he's doing.]

Re: Video

Nah. From what I've heard from the people who actually did go through the doors, they didn't find a way out on the other side, and then the "problem" was fixed, and they all woke up back here in the dome.

I dunno who all went. We kind of all ended up in different spots, based on where the pods holding our bodies were. So, not everyone saw everyone else. And the people on this side only thought the people involved in going through the doors had disappeared from the dome for a day.

They covered it really well.

A computer what gets broke down is just, broke, bruv.

I don't understand how this is Virtual.

So what's a glitch even do? [Don't you recognize this kitty?]

I honestly can't remember if Shadow and Duo interacted last time Shadow was here. ^_^;;
[info]devine_braid

I guess that depends on the computer. Plus, sometimes, you can fix it and make it work again.

As for virtual, well, think of it like a dream. Our bodies are asleep, and they're feeding the information that builds this place directly into our brains. What we're seeing is only real in our heads. It doesn't actually exist in a physical way.

And glitches? Depends on the glitch. There've been a few different ones. [That was putting it lightly.]

Doesn't make any sense why they woulxld even bother doing that if we're already under water, unless that's just a lie.

If this is digital, will I still feel like crap if I eat chocolate?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Huh... I thought the steak thread was Piper. Okay.
[info]devine_braid

You could try, but I've found injury, food, and sleep rules do still apply. It's that real. The only thing is that death isn't permanent. But, it will mess with your connection to the system, so it takes a few days to get your mind back in sync with the simulation if you get yourself killed. I wouldn't recommend it. People experience all kinds of weird things once they wake back up after being killed.

So... yeah. You'll probably still feel like crap if you eat chocolate.

This place was designed to make us all think it was real. It wasn't that long ago that they actually came out and admitted to it being virtual. So, everything that happens in the real world for you will still technically happen here. There are only a few exceptions, like vampires being able to walk around in daylight without getting burned. But, beyond that, most of this place is definitely designed to make you think it's completely real.

[Duo frowned a bit.]

Have you been here before, though?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Pretty sure it involved lunch
[info]orions_shadow
2017-04-24 08:33 pm UTC (link)
You scared a dyin' here mate cos you're all rambly. So no chocolate. Thats a shame. Maybe I should ask for then to change it so I can eat it.

And also are all the Vampires normal lookin', or shiny or like nosferantu?

[He tilts his head.]

Don't think so. Maybe I forgot?

[info]devine_braid

So rambly automatically means scared? [Duo didn't seem perturbed.] You must hang out with silent types.

They might have special chocolate for, you know, cats.

[He shrugged.] Depends on the vampire. I've seen a few different ones.

[He nodded then at the answer.]

Maybe. It happens. People come and go and don't always remember being here before.
