He's still screaming when he finds himself, abruptly, suddenly, somewhere new.

He blinks up at a leafy canopy, dazed, while a voice in his ear informs him he's in some kind of prison. And the funny part is, he's not entirely surprised. He is, however, very confused. He was expecting something more drab, gray walls, bars on cells, that kind of thing.

Also troubling was that he can't remember how he got here.

"Must have passed out," he mutters, sitting up slowly. That makes the most sense. He had been standing on the roof of a moving train car, Ardyn at the business end of his pistol. And then his best friend was knocking the gun from his hand and shouldering into him. The next thing he knew he was falling.

Throat tight, he moves one hand over the other and finds his glove and bracelets are missing. He looks around nervously and tugs the sleeve over the mark on his wrist.

He should be injured from that fall, but he feels fine. Physically, he feels fine. There's a weight on his ankle. He prods at it, but he's never seen tech like this. His clothes are gone, replaced by some kind of orange jumpsuit. He pats himself down, but everything he would have had on him is missing, including the camera. He feels a bit like crying. All those memories, gone.

A sound behind him has him spinning on his knees into a defensive crouch, his hand flying up and grasping ... nothing. His gun doesn't materialize and his fingers close on thin air.

He laughs nervously and lowers his hand. "Sorry, dude. Um, I come in peace?"

[The communicator is easy to figure out, once he stops gawking at the dome and all its wonders - still not entirely convinced it's not a coma dream as he lays dying on the train tracks - and takes the time to mess with it. If he's going to be here a while, he might as well get to know the population.

He opens up the feed with a wide smile.]

Hey! Prompto here. This is ... something, huh? Not what I would expect of an Imperial prison. Honestly, I was expecting something more bleak. You know, cells, guards, creepy experiments...

Is...is this some kind of experiment?

[His voice wavers and his smile falters.]

"Well then. Glad I'm not alone." There's a note of sincerity behind the smile.

"Sector 6, got it." He takes another look around, still confused about how he got here and how un-prison-like the place seems. When his eyes land on the other man, he realizes, "Oh, sorry. I didn't get your name. I'm Prompto."

"Jim Kirk," he held out his hand for a shake. It seemed pretty universal as a greeting, so it tended to be his default - at least here. "Welcome to prison, Prompto. Thankfully, orange jump suits are not part of the fashion sense around here, though I guess you can keep yours if you really want."

"Heh. Thanks." He grips Jim's hand and gives it a firm, if slightly enthusiastic, shake. "Oh no. I am getting rid of this thing as fast as I can. Might even burn it."

"A good plan. I can show you where to get replacements. They at least give us that, food, and housing for free. If anything in prison can be called free," he sighed. "After that I can show you where to get yourself food and just keep yourself busy. That's the real challenge here - not dying of boredom."

"What's the catch? There's a catch, right?" It all sounded a little too good to be true. More like a forced vacation than a prison.

"Better than being torn apart by demons, I guess," he mutters. "Uh, but if you want to show me around, that would be great! I appreciate it."

"Ah, well, weird shit tends to happen a lot, so there's that," he shrugged. "There was something Kiss Bots recently, and there are things called 'glitches' that pop up now and then." And you know, not everyone here is so nice, or at least they didn't used to be.

He turned to start walking, motioning for Prompto to follow. "It's not an incredibly big area, but we can at least stretch our legs. There's even a beach, believe it or not, and stables."

"Kiss Bots?" That seems to catch his interest, though glitches sound pretty bad. Some kind of monster?

Prompto follows. Despite the confusion and worry he's feeling, there's a spring in his step, practically a skip. "A beach, huh? I thought we were, you know, under water. And if there's stables, does that mean there's things you can ride?" Like chocobos? Would they have chocobos here?

"Robots that force you to kiss someone in order to get out of a force field," he explained, though without Prompto's enthusiasm. It had sounded novel at first, but after experiencing it, well, it just felt like a pain. They kept interrupting things!

He gave a shrug to the second. "I didn't build the place. I haven't even been here half a year. But maybe one of the older members can give you better insight on that. As for the stables - I've personally only seen horses, but you could request something else from the Wardens perhaps."

He snorts. "That's weird." He's trying to see the downside here, but he has also never experienced such a thing.

"How long have you been here?" Half a year was too long. A week was too long. He needed to get back to his friends. They would be looking for him.

His wrist itches and he rubs it absently against his leg. He remembers being pushed from the roof of the train. And for a brief instant, he saw his best friend's face looking down at him before the train sped away. Maybe they weren't looking for him after all.

Kirk took a moment to answer, thinking it over and counting the days. "Maybe two months?" he said, though it's more a question than a determination. Had it been so long? Possibly longer?

He glanced back to the young man following him, and there's sympathy there. "Some people have been here much longer than that though. Some have gone. Some have come back, I'm told. As for how they come and go - I don't know. I don't think anyone really does."

Time flies when you're having fun?

He frowns thoughtfully, though he feels discouraged by the information, and the lack of information. He's starting to think he should buckle down for a long stay here.

"Could any of them have escaped?"

Sure, why not? Well, there had been SOME fun, but, you know, not something one should mention in polite company, especially to someone you just met.

"It's possible, but I don't recall having been told of any successful attempts. I think 'escape' is going to be tricky here, since I've also been told this entire place is, well - digital, so to speak. All of this is an interconnected sort of network, our bodies elsewhere and this is our head space."

He presses his lips together, brows knotting up. That's confusing. Maybe believable? He's seen some crazy shit; it's not outside the realm of possibility. But, again, it's discouraging. He fumbles the communicator off his ear and just, looks at it.

"I don't think I got to that part on my little doo-dad. S-so all of this is in our heads." He's afraid to ask if Kirk knows anything about where their bodies are. "Oh, wait! But, dude, if this is all in our heads, can we like ... make dishes float around with just our thoughts?"

"Ah, no regular rules of physics still apply," he shook his head, but he had to laugh at where the other's head went at the pronouncement. He reached out and gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder.

"Not unless you already came equipped with that power, I'm afraid. But, who knows? Weird things happen around here all the time, so maybe one day you will be able to." He gave him an amused, wry look. "Do you have a fear of doing the dishes?" he teased.

"Doesn't everybody? Dishes were awful, and anyone who says otherwise is lying." Still, what a disappointment. What's the good of being in a mind-prison if you couldn't do cool stuff with your mind? Oh, well.

"Hey, anyway. Thanks for tolerating my need to know stuff."

It truly was such an oversight in this place, he agreed, but with all the crazy things that happened on a seemingly regular basis anyways, well, maybe it was for the best.

"Not at all. Questions are good, especially in a new place," he assured him with a warm smile. "I haven't been here the longest, as I've said, so others might have more tell you, but I can cover the basics easily enough. You'll be given a room, but there's no actual need for a job, by the way. The basics are free - food, clothing, that sort of thing."

Make a guy feel at ease, why don'tcha. "It sounds more like a vacation than a prison. A free vacation." Which is the best kind. No needing to go and hunt something big and nasty to afford the room and food.

"Thanks again. I won't take up any more of your time."
