Day 415 - action & video - open
Action

[He hadn't been in the dome long, but Keith discovered the athletic center.

It really hadn't been hard. Having spent the last couple of years of his life attempting to learn alien technology that didn't have the luxury of instructions in his own language, learning Marina's technology had been a breeze. So finding anything in the dome that was marked on the network map was simple.

Of course, the whole reason he was there in the first place was because using physical exertion to deal with his issues was something familiar. He didn't have his Bayard. He didn't have his mother's knife. He just had him. He could work with that in this type of gym setting, as it didn't look like there were any battle drones to work against, but it was the lack of those items which gave him one of his many reasons to be down here.

Also, after using drone gladiators to practice against in a training simulator, a punching bag, he found, just wasn't as satisfying.

He did it anyway, though, the rhythmic sounds of his strikes against the punching bag allowing him to let his mind wander. It kept circling back to a few main points. He wanted his mother's knife- his knife. He missed Red's presence in his mind. He needed to get out. And every time his thoughts came back to those points, he got angrier, hitting the bag harder and faster, blindly striking out as he tried to expel and exhaust the rage out of himself.

That was fine until he heard someone enter behind him. He took a second to look, but it was just long enough for the bag to swing back fast from one of his harder hits and knock him flat on his ass.]

Oof-

[Okay, he could take a hint. It was probably time to try something else.]

[Keith wasn't a great conversationalist, so poking around on the network was sort of more for gathering information than actually initiating a chat with someone. He didn't know any of these people. But, still, the fatalistic attitude of "we've accepted our lives here" that a good number of them seemed to be showing sort of bothered him a little. That made his line of questions seem almost pointless. This place was on Day 400+. Surely someone had tried getting out, right?

He frowned a bit. Pidge was the hacker. She'd have better luck at seeing if hacking their way out of this simulation was even possible. Keith was definitely not a hacker. He decided to ask anyway, but he had a bad feeling on what the answers were going to be.]

Uh, hi. I'm Keith. I'm a Paladin of Voltron. [Still getting used to that, even after this long...]

I was just wondering... has anyone tried getting out, yet? I mean, I would think someone probably has, but I was wondering what happened when it was tried. Consider it research.

[If someone looked close enough, they might see the beginnings of what looked like one of those boards used by criminal investigators to source crime patterns.]

Minds, bodies, environment, and all of the above.

It makes sense, I guess, since this is their program, but it still sounds really disturbing.

What's the point of doing all of that? Is it considered part of our punishment to basically be toys for them?

Maybe. Or maybe this place is more experiment or entertainment and less punishment and reform.

That's a distinct possibility, too. [That didn't seem to make him any happier, but really, which was worse? It was a tough call.] I guess we may never find out.

So early to give up hope. I mean, not that I disagree, but you really need to earn your pessimism.

[Keith responded with something of a smirk.]

I've been pessimistic for a while. I guess it's just a natural state of being.

[That, and he was able to see the bigger picture pretty quick. He knew someone intent on keeping them prisoner wasn't going to be open with much information that might give clues on how to get out. That was just a given.]

But, hey... I'm always up for a challenge.

[He wasn't giving up, per se, just facing facts and acknowledging just how much of a task getting out might be.]

I guess pessimistic but determined is as good or better than optimistic.

Let's see, there's a map in your communicator if you haven't found it yet. It should show you all the hot spots. Everything's free so you don't have to worry about food or clothes. There are apartments in sectors 2, 3, and 4 and you can grab anything that's empty. That should cover the basics.

Right. I found the map and was able to call up the locations. As for apartment...

[He glanced behind him for a moment, that mind map board taking up a section of wall in the empty apartment he found. Well, guess that's as good a claim on a spot as anything.]

Check.

But, wait... free? So I'm not gonna get docked something for taking the clothes I grabbed in the shop? Good to know.

[That also meant when his appetite kicked back in later after the stress of waking up here died down a little, he wasn't going to have to have money for food. And he was pretty sure he saw normal Earth food around, which was something he hadn't had in a while.]

Thanks.

Totally free. Jobs are optional here, but they come with rehabilitation points. Which are...dubious at best but theoretically can get you extras from the wardens.

Nico mentioned the points and getting stuff. Jobs get you those, huh? [He looked thoughtful for a moment.]

Any idea on figuring out how much something might cost in 'points' to get it? [He might already be thinking of something in particular.]

Jobs, organizations, committees, good behavior, warden whims...

[She shakes her head.] They are purposefully vague about how many points you have and how many something takes.

Of course they are.

[He slumped with an exasperated sigh.]

What kinds of jobs and stuff are around?

[He wasn't sure about the whole organization or committee thing. It wasn't his thing to be 'social'. But, a job, he could handle.]

Mmm, you can kind of make up your own or work for someone who already has a business. Lots of restaurants, but I think it's kind of a limited by your creativity thing.

Okay. Makes sense, I guess.

Thanks for your help.

I guess you could say that about anything. It was good talking to you, Kitty.
