Day 415 - action & video - open
Action

[He hadn't been in the dome long, but Keith discovered the athletic center.

It really hadn't been hard. Having spent the last couple of years of his life attempting to learn alien technology that didn't have the luxury of instructions in his own language, learning Marina's technology had been a breeze. So finding anything in the dome that was marked on the network map was simple.

Of course, the whole reason he was there in the first place was because using physical exertion to deal with his issues was something familiar. He didn't have his Bayard. He didn't have his mother's knife. He just had him. He could work with that in this type of gym setting, as it didn't look like there were any battle drones to work against, but it was the lack of those items which gave him one of his many reasons to be down here.

Also, after using drone gladiators to practice against in a training simulator, a punching bag, he found, just wasn't as satisfying.

He did it anyway, though, the rhythmic sounds of his strikes against the punching bag allowing him to let his mind wander. It kept circling back to a few main points. He wanted his mother's knife- his knife. He missed Red's presence in his mind. He needed to get out. And every time his thoughts came back to those points, he got angrier, hitting the bag harder and faster, blindly striking out as he tried to expel and exhaust the rage out of himself.

That was fine until he heard someone enter behind him. He took a second to look, but it was just long enough for the bag to swing back fast from one of his harder hits and knock him flat on his ass.]

Oof-

[Okay, he could take a hint. It was probably time to try something else.]

=====

Video

[Keith wasn't a great conversationalist, so poking around on the network was sort of more for gathering information than actually initiating a chat with someone. He didn't know any of these people. But, still, the fatalistic attitude of "we've accepted our lives here" that a good number of them seemed to be showing sort of bothered him a little. That made his line of questions seem almost pointless. This place was on Day 400+. Surely someone had tried getting out, right?

He frowned a bit. Pidge was the hacker. She'd have better luck at seeing if hacking their way out of this simulation was even possible. Keith was definitely not a hacker. He decided to ask anyway, but he had a bad feeling on what the answers were going to be.]

Uh, hi. I'm Keith. I'm a Paladin of Voltron. [Still getting used to that, even after this long...]

I was just wondering... has anyone tried getting out, yet? I mean, I would think someone probably has, but I was wondering what happened when it was tried. Consider it research.

[If someone looked close enough, they might see the beginnings of what looked like one of those boards used by criminal investigators to source crime patterns.]

Yes, there are more than one represented here.

[Trowa takes the pause to readjust his grip on the punching bag]

Unless your world has mobile suits and Gundams, you are from a different world than me. Though that's not necessarily the case. There's a few from a timeline similar, but still different than mine.

[Keith shook his head.]

No. Doesn't sound familiar at all.

[That was a little disheartening, and kind of made Keith feel pretty alone. Being a loner was one thing, but being alone? He really didn't like it.]

I'm assuming that means you haven't heard of something called Voltron.

No, the name Voltron doesn't sound familiar.

[Trowa does understand that it is difficult to be alone from your particular world. He's never been alone because of Duo, but he knows others such as the music teacher who are alone now]

[He nodded.]

Yeah. I mean, even back home, we were trying to rebuild the reputation of the Paladins. It had been dormant for ten thousand years. Most people who did know what it was only knew of it from legends and stories.

So what exactly is Voltron?

[Since they were on the topic]

It's a large robotic weapon made up of five robotic lions. Each lion is piloted by it's own paladin. It makes for complicated maneuvers when we're joined up together, so we really have to be in tune with each other.

I'm the Red Paladin, so my lion makes the right arm. Blue and Yellow are the legs, Green is the other arm, and Black is the head and torso.

[And Trowa is just going to stare at him for a moment as he considers this. A giant robot... made up of robot lions. If he knew it were physically impossible, he'd really like to see this in person. Even just ONE lion]

I would imagine that is difficult to pilot, but sounds interesting. Combined, it might be similar to what we call a Gundam. A Gundam has only one pilot though.

How big are they?

[Keith was trying to get a sense of scale, but the idea of piloting something as large as Voltron with only one pilot seemed pretty intense.]

My Gundam Heavyarms was 16.7 meters tall.

[info]tempredmental

That's pretty sizable.

[It was bigger than the stuff he was used to back home on Earth. The Lions, though... they were massive, and, as a result, Voltron even bigger. He was pretty sure even Red or Green would dwarf Trowa's Gundam. And those were the smaller two Lions.]

Bigger than humans back home have done. The Lions are Altean made, so they're... big. [He shrugged a little.] I mean, really big. The cockpit of each is in the head, and it's pretty roomy in there. We were able to fit all five of us in just the cockpit of Lance's Lion.

[The relation between Altean and size means nothing to Trowa. Just means that they were bigger than what Keith knew from Earth. Not that 'Gundam' meant anything to Keith so they were even. Trowa pauses to consider that for a moment]

Room to spare in the cockpit? Even with five people and the equipment? And where is the cockpit?

[Yes, those were important questions for approximating the size of one of the lions]

In the head.

But, yeah. The whole set up is in there. The Lions also carry small speeders we can use on a planet's surface if we need to.

[They'd used them on the Balmera.]

[Trowa was silent for a moment. If Keith were paying attention, he was periodically tapping a finger on the punching bag he was still holding. The gears were turning, being a mechanic himself and having helped to build his own Gundam. He'd also been around actual lions enough to know their general proportions. Finally he spoke]

That's a big lion.

[Granted without more of a scale, he could still be off]

The cockpits in a Gundam are mounted in the chest and two might be able to fit inside one of them. Five would be impossible.

The Gundams still sound larger than anything we've got on Earth. The Lions are really advanced compared to what humans have done. Altea was a highly advanced race, especially considering that the Lions and the Castle we use as a base are over ten thousand years old.

If things had been different, I wonder how advanced they'd be now.

[His voice got a little quiet for a moment. After all, after Allura and Coran were put in cryostasis and the Lions put in hiding, the Alteans had essentially been wiped out. He could only imagine what ten thousand years would have done for them technology-wise.]

That seems to be the case for a lot of worlds. There's some that are very advanced, some that aren't, and then others between.

Ten thousand years? And they are still operating?

[That seemed like it was outside normal lifespan for a robot]

[Keith shrugged.]

I mean, the Castle's parts are really hard to find when it gets damaged because of the age, but, yeah. For the most part, it all seems to work. The Castle, the Lions. And they've been sitting for most of that time. The Castle was actually already pretty old. Coran mentioned working on some of the systems with his grandfather when he was a kid.

That would make it hard to find parts for them. Too bad this place makes it impossible to actually see the machines that we use. Sounds like the castle and the lions would be interesting.

Yeah. I'd like to have Red here.

Unfortunately anything considered a weapon is not allowed except for certain exceptions. But something as large as Gundam would not be allowed. A tiny version, perhaps.

The lions talk to you?

[info]tempredmental
2017-03-11 11:44 pm UTC (link)
Kind of. It's not really actual words or speech. It's more like feelings or ideas... impressions that are just kind of fed right into our brains. There's like a presence there. It was weird at first, but I guess I got used to it enough that now it's weird not having it.

[Not that it was a constant thing, but knowing that, when he was close enough to her, he could just reach out and get a response had gotten comforting. It was also nice to know she'd come for him when he needed her, but he didn't have that here, either. It was a sobering thought.]

You can understand animals?

I can. I worked with the animals at the circus and I was able to understand the animals there. One of the circus's lions was a friend of mine.
