Day 399 | Open Action
Having found little to interest her in tattoos to cover up her newest scars, Martha had turned to Jack's suggestion at getting them removed. And knowing she had little to no rehabilitation points, she was willing to take whatever the wardens would give her regarding work to earn more.

Which was why she was now rolling a ginormous pumpkin through sector zero to place somewhere. It was also why she was placing hay bales in various places and hanging orange lights. None of the decorations were as impressive as she would have expected from the wardens for a big anniversary bash, but there was definitely plenty.

"Excuse me!" she called over the pumpkin.

Gaeta thought about lending a hand with the decorations since more points can't possibly be a bad thing, but he ultimately decided that he'd rather enjoy a cigarette than help robots decorate. He'd also rather not suffer a pumpkin-induced injury, so he steps out of the way as Martha comes rolling through. "Where're you going with that?"

Martha did her best to halt the pumpkin, a feat that was less than graceful. The pumpkin tipped over onto its base and wobbled a moment before settling. She scowled at the gourd before turning to Gaeta. "Tva park. Which seemed doable when I accepted the challenge!"

Now she wasn't so sure.

Regardless of how awkward their last conversation was and how awkward another might be, Gaeta couldn't in good conscience not offer to lend a hand. It's a huge pumpkin. "That's not all that close. Would you like some help?"

She nodded. "I'd appreciate it. Yes." Martha wasn't going to let awkwardness stand in the way of an offer to help. And anyway, working tended to keep awkwardness at bay. It was nice when there was something else to focus on. She halted the pumpkin so Gaeta could get into position.

He stood on the other side of the pumpkin, helped her tilt it back on its side, and got it rolling again. The process might not be much faster with two people, but at least it made for less opportunities for a runaway gourd to mow someone down.

"So... do you have a passion for decorating or are you in it for the points?"

Definitely fewer opportunities for runaway gourds. Martha started rolling the pumpkin again and laughed.

"Points. I'm terrible at decorating. Too busy usually to remember when a holiday is coming up. And half the time I'm working anyway. Besides, I'm fresh out of points."

"You might be terrible at it, but you're committed." He nodded at the pumpkin. Moving it across the dome took dedication, if not talent.

"What would you put your points towards? I can't think of anything I'd want to ask the wardens for." Which hadn't stopped him from trying to get points. Stockpiling resources, even ones that seem useless, is important.

"That's me. Always willing to do the difficult tasks." She said it with a smile though the reality was she really did end up with some impossible tasks when she did things.

She considered lying. Just saying she didn't know. In fact, she rolled the pumpkin in silence as she debated. A moment or two later and she did answer however. "Scar removal."

"Someone's got to." It's possible to smile about such things when Marina is usually free of truly difficult tasks.

Had she said nothing at all, he would have let it go. As it was, he glanced up at her without a pause in the pumpkin-rolling. "Scars aren't anything to be ashamed of, you know."

"Most people don't have the sheer number of scars that I do," she replied, not meeting his eyes. "You haven't seen them since we were in our real bodies in that other prison. Scars may not be something to be ashamed of, but for the first time ever, I don't like the way I look."

Miranda is carrying a basket herself, large and full of fabrics, ribbons, yarn and other various craft items. She pushes the bolt of fabric out of her line of vision--which was limited to begin with--and easily spots the very large pumpkin rolling closer. She quickly takes a step to the side, but said bolt was unbalanced enough to topple right out of the basket and unroll itself as it spooled out across the street.

Instinctively, she leans, trying to grab the fabric, only this tilts the basket and sends spools of ribbon and thread to the ground and even the lovely pair or wooden knitting needles she'd found. Right into the path of the pumpkin.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, but please look out!" She hopes the pumpkin isn't as heavy as it looks because she really liked those needles.

Oh dear. This is a disaster and a half. Martha tries to steer the pumpkin in a direction where it won't cause any harm. It rolls rather ineffectively over the bolt of fabric and does manage to miss the needles. It takes a moment, but Martha finally gets the pumpkin to stop rolling and leaves it where it stands. She runs back to help the other woman out.

"I'm so sorry! Is everything okay?" she asks, as she kneels down to help roll the bolt of fabric.

Miranda is shaking her head and she sets her basket down and starts picking up all the odds and ends that had tumbled from it. "No, no, this wasn't your fault at all," she repeats. "I-I can be rather clumsy and should have been watching where I was going better."

It's a common thing, her not paying enough attention and then getting into these types of situations. One would think she would learn, but her mind wanders too easily at times. "I hope I didn't damage your pumpkin."

"No, no, the pumpkin is fine, I'm sure. Rather a beast of a gourd really. I'm more worried about your items. And you! I didn't get you did I?"

Martha finished rolling the fabric and placed the bolt near the basket of sundries.

Miranda lets out a relieved sigh. "No, no I'm truly fine. If anything, perhaps the fabric will need some washing, but nothing too troublesome, I would think."

She looks around and finds the needles, picking them up from the ground with a smile. "And it looks like um, nothing was damaged at all. A beast it may be, but a gentle one."

Martha echo's the other woman's sigh. "Then I'm glad. Can I help you take those somewhere?" She's pretty well set to let the pumpkin sit there until either a bot can take care of it or someone else can help her.

John had, surprisingly, more or less of a low profile since his arrival in the prison. He figured it was best to bite when he was sure the moment was good. See what their mysterious Warden overlords had then pull the rug out from under them. At least that was what he would prefer to do. John didn't do well trapped in confinement - unless he put himself there. Although, he had put himself in an insane asylum before. Maybe he had somehow put himself in this place as well.

The voice of the woman caught his attention. John turned, cigarette hanging out of his mouth, seeing the monstrous pumpkin rolling down the way. The funny thing? He had seen weirder. With a long drag on his cigarette, John pulled it from his lips and addressed the woman.

"I don't suppose you'd want a hand with that," he gestured to the pumpkin.

Martha looked over at the unfamiliar face, but she wasn't about to reject help when someone offered it. She nodded. "If you'd be so kind. I have to take it to Tva park."

Which was quite the distance.

Help? It might of been an offer for help. Or maybe a chance to watch someone struggle with a pumpkin that a bit too big for her. John gave a sigh and a shrug. Why the hell not? It wasn't as if he had much going for him - even in prison. Life didn't change much, apparently.

"What's going on there? A ritual to appease the pumpkin king? Judging by the size of it," he gestured to it as he crossed the small distance between them.

Whether it was meant as an offer to help or not, Martha had decided to take it as one. She didn't like playing games. She shrugged. "No idea. Could be a ritual to appease the pumpkin king. Or perhaps it'll be Cinderella's carriage. Maybe we'll all be trapped inside it come tomorrow. You never know with the wardens."

"I think you're missing the fairy godmother part of that. Not that I'd recommend anyone willing to grant your wishes. Genies tend to be assholes." John said it easily as if it was normal. Djinn, genies, the like were all fairly common when you talked about magic. "I've yet to see these almighty powers you lot keep talking about with these Wardens. How bad do they get?"

"Mmm... Never met any wish granters that weren't frauds. Though plenty of aliens would have you believe they can grant what you desire."

Two can have normal weird lives.

"No one has seen them. No one really knows how bad they can get. Or what they're really after."

"You don't hang around the right people then. Or maybe you do, depending on that perspective you like to see then." He gave a shrug. "They're just voices that speak to us? Some people would call that God."

"They've been known to pop up here and there. Usually the bloke means well and it all gets out of hand. Not many people understand how magic trades off." John shrugs. "Well, they tend to use figure heads. Prophets and the like."
