Day 389 | Video/Action
[ video ]
[Haruka’s used to Juri running off - she never has enjoyed the surveillance that he feels is necessary. It makes for a fun game of tag, but as of right now, he’s filled with more fear than he is excitement. There’s too much about this that doesn’t settle with him, and being unable to search the dome with his speed or familiars leaves him quite the unhappy puppy husband.

His gaze is calm, though, if a little distant. He’d really rather not do this, but…]

There’s no need to explain where I am or why I’m here. I listened to it already.

[The pureblood’s words are, at least, polite, if a little more curt than usual.]

I’m looking for my wife. We were together, so she might be here somewhere. [And he can’t find heeeer!] If you’ve seen a very cute, angry woman demanding to see the wardens of this place, please tell me. I don’t want her to worry.

[Patient, fond little smile.]

And, if you haven’t seen her, then… [A pause, in which that smile fades entirely and the concern in his gaze doesn’t compare to the worry he actually feels. Virtual or not... he is a very protective father.] … could you tell me if there are children brought here, too?

[ action ]
[Haruka sighs deeply, mind wandering to all the possibilities. It’s impossible to feel relaxed, no matter what he’s told. His family needs him, the things he has tried desperately to protect them from with all of his strength a very real threat now. Who is friend, who can be trusted among the number of supposed criminals wandering this dome.

If they aren’t here, he’s okay with that. Juri and Kaname will be all right. Yuuki will be fine, too, with her mother and brother with her. It’s the worry that they might be here that keeps his feet moving, long after unusual fatigue has set in. Being without even his basic speed and endurance is such a hindrance…

The lonely pureblood puppy wanders through sector 4 (Yuuki would love the ice cream shop!), content in the orange jumpsuit until he finds out, one way or another, if his family is safe.

Looking among those walking by, he frowns, unused to actually wanting to get attention, unsure of who is appropriate to approach. It’s hard to tell who is a good source of information. Well, he has to start somewhere!]

Do you mind if we talk for a few moments?

[His aura is gentle and expression soft. He doesn’t want to eat anyone, he swears! He’s just lonely and struggling to cope with this.]

[The warmth and comfort is as tangible as it is unbelievable, a ghost from her past comforting her in a way she never imagined possible again. Squeezing her eyes shut against him, she soaks in his presence. His scent, touch and embrace, all of it. Every single part of this moment is important, and she wants to ingrain the memory of it into her very soul.

It's funny. Since she arrived back to this place she's done everything in her power to grow up. Even if she is only seventeen, she has a daughter. That person, while mature and so grown up as she is, still looks to her as a mother.

In this moment, however, she wants very much to be that little girl from long ago, and take comfort in the love and protection that only a parent can provide. And she stays there, for as long as he will allow. When she thinks she can find her voice again, she speaks.]

I'm sorry. You must think I'm ridiculous. [So emotional like this as a 'grown adult'.] I'm just so happy to see you again.

[It's odd, holding her, but he does, squeezing gently in reassurance, trying to tell her, without the use of words, that he's really here, that he will take care of her. Whatever has happened, she seems to truly believe that she is his daughter and this is a meeting she's waited for, for much too long. If there is even the slightest chance that she might be, that the story of differing timelines is true, he can't turn her away. His daughter is what he fights for, every day, to keep safe, hidden from anyone and everyone who might want to prey on her. His precious child, so kind and sweet, needs him and he wants to be there.

The lingering doubts, the questions that rise as quickly as he stomps them down are left for another time. Her tears already hurt, the look on her face as he stated his doubt an unbearable one. A father should always know his child, no matter the age. It's shameful, but there's no time to dwell on that shame.]

Not at all. [It's not ridiculous. That she's clinging to him means she's already forgiven his words, his disbelief, and that's more than all right with him.

Besides, he always has preferred it when his family has relied on him. He loves it, because there will be a time when they're independent, when his children don't need him anymore and it's not a time he's looking forward to.]

I should apologize. I never want to make my dear daughter cry. [His hold on her loosens, fingers of a hand gently running through her hair. Haruka looks down at her, corners of his lips lifting, a small smile of regret, an apology, but also a welcome, a warm ray to fight against her sadness.] I'm glad to see you're well and safe. The thought they might have brought a child here...

[It's sickening, and there would be very little stopping him from finding his family, if it turned out they were here.]

Have you seen your mother or Kaname?

[It hasn't changed. Not even a little bit. The gentle, comforting patience that he's always exemplified is present now. The way he gently strokes her hair... how similar, she thinks. Did Kaname get the habit from him?

In response to his smile she gives him a watery one of her own, but it falters briefly after. Forcing it back into place she shakes her head, before frowning.]

No. Neither of them is here. In the past they were here once upon a time, but-- [It's complicated. She lifts a hand up to her head and frowns apologetically.] I can't remember it. Sometimes memories can be lost here, and for some reason... even though the people here remember that I was here in the past, and that they were here as well, I can't recall that time at all.

I've heard... that memories aren't something reliable here. A lot of things aren't. [Like the two of them, here and now. Of course he wants to believe, and it's near impossible to deny Artemis, or the story she tells (Juri that story...) but if memories...

If he agonizes over it any longer, he'll upset her again. Maybe he isn't sure what is right, but he does know he does not want to see the look of anguish in her eyes again.]

But we'll deal with that as we need to. If they're not here, it means they're safe. Do you have a place to stay? I'll take you there for now.
