Day 376 - Open Action
Upon waking up from the dreams, Martha's first thought was she clearly needed therapy. She elected to stay in her flat that day.

The next day she discovered she was out of tea. Perhaps it was time to get back out into the world dome. They were only dreams after all. It's not like anyone else experienced the same things, right?

Her day was much like any other. She started at the Coffee Bean for a quick pick-me-up, then spent some time in Trois park meditating. She did need to get some shopping done as well, both for food and clothes, so she could be found in the various sectors getting things.

Late in the evening, when she was sure Ianto would be gone, she even ventured over to the library to grab a novel or two.

"...Is a 'fixed point in time' exactly what it says on the tin?" Arbitrary rule it is, then. But Lelouch keeps his face carefully smooth. His childhood is not this poor woman's fault. The... alien she traveled with, on the other hand...

((ooc: reasonably speaking, Britannia is a fusion of (the) America(s) and England, so Lelouch's accent and terminology probably waver a bit between here and there...))

"Yes. If you mess with those, it apparently breaks time. But fixed points aren't all that common."

((ooc: No worries. Martha may be British, but her mun is American, and while I do my best to keep her sounding authentic, I'm strictly Midwestern, and it bleeds through more often than I'd like.))

Not all that common. Lelouch's smile -- doesn't precisely slip. A better word might be alters. "I suppose you've mostly seen, and heard about, terrible ones."

Perhaps even... exclusively?

Martha looks a little confused. "Terrible what? Breaks in time?" It occurs to her that there may be more he wants to know other than just simple curiosity. "Why are you asking?"

"Terrible fixed points in time. Tragic events that cannot be prevented, rather than... innocuous ones." Lelouch hesitates more over her second question, though, his eyes lowering to the rim of his mug. The steam rising from it... He musters up a faint smile. "Don't we all have things in our pasts that we wish we could change?"

Martha thinks back to the Paradox Year. Would she have done differently? What would she be like had she chosen differently? What about her family?

"An interesting quandary to be sure, and one I think on from time to time. But no, I think I much prefer where I am now, even with the points I would like to change sometimes. Regardless, there's no way for you to travel back in time here, and even if we got out of here, I don't have the proper technology."

"No... at least, no way that's available to us." Lelouch puts it mildly, but his eyes narrow all the same. The AI wardens could, if they were so inclined...

But he should probably let it drop. Martha seems to believe pretty strongly in what she's been told about noninterference. And, taken at face value, the fixed points in time are motive enough for anyone to be... circumspect in even what they allow themselves to hope might be changeable.

"Hmmm." Martha utters, not quite sure she believes him. But he's not bringing it up anymore at the moment, and she's almost done with her drink. She gives him a tight smile. "Well Lelouch, I do have to get going. It was nice meeting you."

And Lelouch returns it, smooth and less tight despite his own misgivings. He's a very good actor, and habitually hides unease. "So it was. Enjoy the rest of your day -- is, I suppose, the thing to say."
