Day 376 - Open Action
Upon waking up from the dreams, Martha's first thought was she clearly needed therapy. She elected to stay in her flat that day.

The next day she discovered she was out of tea. Perhaps it was time to get back out into the world dome. They were only dreams after all. It's not like anyone else experienced the same things, right?

Her day was much like any other. She started at the Coffee Bean for a quick pick-me-up, then spent some time in Trois park meditating. She did need to get some shopping done as well, both for food and clothes, so she could be found in the various sectors getting things.

Late in the evening, when she was sure Ianto would be gone, she even ventured over to the library to grab a novel or two.

Martha can't help it. She's a physical person. Perhaps not quite as much as Jack is, but enough that she does move so she's actually sitting next to Gaeta, her shoulder touching his. It has the advantage of not actually looking him in the face either, which she imagines makes talking about it more difficult. Knowing someone's scrutinizing you.

"It does though. It's a thing you still remember. A thing that helps define who you are whether you like it or not. Sometimes being away from it all makes it hurt all the more."

Martha's doing everything—she tried to save him in the dream even though she had no idea what was going on, and now she's offering sympathy without any reason to do so. She's providing contact without making any movements that could be interpreted as threatening, caring without being patronizing. Granting permission to grieve. It's kindness that no one at home has been willing to show him. That, more than anything, breaks the facade of wry composure that Gaeta has been shoring up since the cylons attacked.

He bows his head and cries soundlessly.

Martha hadn't expected him to start crying. She placed a hand on his back, rubbing lightly, but otherwise keeping silent. Nothing she could say would help in this situation. Her presence was all that was required.

Crying is embarrassing. Crying in front of a relative stranger just because they were nice is absolutely mortifying and Gaeta is quick to pull himself back together.

"Sorry," he mumbles, keeping his head down.

Martha shakes her head. "Never apologize for showing your feelings, Felix. You are entitled to them, and no one can take that away from you."

"Maybe that's true here." He swipes a hand across his eyes, straightens, and bumps her shoulder with his. "But thank you, Martha. I'd offer to buy you a drink if that wasn't such an empty gesture."

She chuckles. "I think even if you can't actually buy it for me, the sentiment's what really matters eh? That is to say, I'm happy to get a drink with you whenever."

"Then pencil me in for some evening when you're free," he says, and it sounds like a question rather than a suggestion. "My schedule's wide open."

"When I'm free," she agrees with a laugh. "Which would be any and every evening. How about a few days from now?"

"I think that I can swing that." He reaches over to pat her hand. That doesn't feel like overstepping bounds since he basically cried on her. "You're a good person, Martha. I just wish I could've met you under better circumstances."

Martha turns her hand over to give his hand a squeeze. "We can make the next circumstances better. Take care of yourself Felix. And..." She pauses a moment because what she's about to offer does feel like it's too forward. She offers anyway. "If you do need anything... company in the middle of the night to chase nightmares away or anything else, don't hesitate to call?"

Maybe it's a little forward, but they're trapped in a storage unit somewhere while their minds wander around a prison that they could vanish from at any moment. This is no place to stand on formalities, especially when it comes to making connections.

"I will. Thank you." Even admitting that seeking help is a possibility is significant. Felix was stubbornly self-sufficient even before circumstances made self-sufficiency a necessity. "The same goes for you if you need anything. Anything at all."

And that whole dying for him in his dream definitely had something to do with it.

"Thank you. See you in a few days for that drink." She gives him a final smile, extricates her hand from his, and walks off.
