( unwilling vampire )

[A rather young-looking Zero, around the age of 13, has been wandering the Dome for some time, now. He has no real destination in mind, but instead is just trying to figure out where he is, in general, and how he even got here. It hardly takes much for him to grow frustrated; upset, as well, but that part won't outwardly show.

All he knows is that this place definitely is not home.

At some point he winds up near the Blood Shack. It's as if on instinct alone that he finds the place. He's already keen to the presence of blood in the air as it is with being a vampire hunter. . . . Only, it's been hardly a month since he was turned into a vampire— the very thing he now loathes with every fiber of his being. He still keeps a bandage wrapped around his throat, while also in part to hide a rather large "tattoo" on the left side of his neck.

The very heady scent of blood in the air affects him belatedly, hitting his senses like a ton of bricks. And immediately is he both desperate and hateful. He initially can't even breathe, trembling where he stands with a hand clutching his chest over his heart. The desire to enter the Blood Shack to ease just how much he's physically aching is overwhelming. His other hand moves to claw at the side of his throat where that woman sank her fangs into him. Turning him into an unforgivable monster.

. . .So he turns to run, scrambling to get as far away as he can from such horrible temptation.

He isn't fully paying attention to anyone who might be in the area, only glaring at them before sneering. His eyes are a brilliant and bloody red, unbeknownst to him.]

What are you looking at?

[The shock and hurt that crosses her face is as clear as day. Tears are quick the burn at the corner of her eyes. Hands grabbing her skirts, her head dips down so that her bangs fall across her eyes, hiding them from view. Her fangs clench hard, knuckles pulled white and gently shake.]

Don't say that kind of thing as if you know. [Calling her family stupid, tarnishing their name in such a way.] Mother and father died protecting me. The whole time they were protecting me from uncle and the senate, and bad hunters, too.

[She's practically trembling all over, now.]

D-Don't say it like they were bad.

[Zero's knee-jerk reaction and thoughts are of regret. It wasn't in his intentions to hurt her in such a way. Beyond than just how her blood smells, or the steady pulse of her heart, is the scent of her tears, be they spilled or otherwise.]

[The need and desire to try and comfort her is mixed with the irritability of before. Fury, even, as it begins to surface once more.]

[Her head tilts back up to look at him, tears still clinging to her lashes. But his sudden shock causes her to look up at him in surprise.]

That man— It's not his lingering presence or that he's around here. It's your own!

[His arm shoots out to point a finger at her as he steps back at the same time. He can't hurt her. He can't, but this. . .!]

Why else would you speak of the senate or hunters!?

[Eyes wide, she stares at him a moment. For some reason she thought he knew. But then-- no, of course. He doesn't know. Why had she thought he did?]

Zero- [Her eyes find his, the anger and shock reflected clearly at her. She looks apologetic if anything.]

Mother... she died turning me human. I really thought that I was. I couldn't remember anything else. Not until... that is... [She lifts a hand up to her throat.] not until my brother recently returned me back.

How. . .? H-How is that even possible?

[He doesn't need to ask, though. Purebloods have such an arsenal of abilities. So much so that even in his years of training, with all of the reading he did right along side honing his physical strength, there still was so much he hasn't learned. At one point he asked his Master if there's even an end to what the pureblood vampire is capable of at all.

She's just the same as that woman, then. He can't help but think of her.

He can't even say much else at the moment. A few more unsteady steps are taken back. He severs the way their eyes had met, one hand moving to cover his own. If only it's to (try and) keep any tears from falling, or being seen. But in the end he's unable to keep any from spilling, even if he's so desperately trying that he's practically trembling. Just as the pain also is so great within his chest that he feels he can't breathe.

Traitor. She's just some traitor! He can't see past that right now, or to recognize that if what she says is the honest truth, then that means she isn't truly at fault for anything.]

[She doesn't know what to say as he takes a step back from her. His question goes unanswered. She doesn't think he really wants an explanation. It's just the shock and upset of the situation. It has her heart breaking in turn.]

I'm sorry... [Her eyes threaten to overflow. She swallows thickly to try and keep her voice from trembling, but the faint quiver is still heard. Knuckles pulled white she clutches the hem of her skirt within her hands tightly.]

I-I didn't mean to surprise you. [To hurt him...] I'm still me-- Yuuki. [So please don't turn her away. Her heart sits in her stomach as she takes a few tentative steps forward.] We're friends. Zero is... is still like family to me.

[He knows that. He does. Every last word is the truth. She is simply herself; kind, gentle, and so purely unconditional. And that's why this hurts far, far more than it already did in that moment of realization. It's why he simultaneously wants to dry her tears and make an attempt to console her, even if he's never been good at that kind of thing.

Yet he also can't.

Now both hands cover his face. His back hits the wall and he sinks down against it to the floor.]

I don't have a family. I've said that before.

[The reply nearly silent. It's more of a defense mechanism. Having a family means the possibility of being hurt all over again. Of losing everyone.]

[She watches as his back hits the back of a brick wall, before sliding down to the ground in defeat. It's difficult to swallow past the lump in throat. The defeat-- the devastation is so painfully clear. Chest heavy, she doesn't touch him. She doesn't know if he would accept that kind of thing from her right now.

He's struck her hand away before. Now, as a pureblood, she could imagine it would only be so much more so.

At a loss she doesn't know how to help. Especially when her own heart hurts. Lifting a hand up to her eyes, she tries to scrub away the tears, before she moves forward. Back to the wall, she slides down beside him. Near, but not touching. Eyes closing, she buries her face into her knees. Her voice is barely above a whisper.]

I'd be willing to be Zero's family.

[Zero can feel the extent of her emotions even amid his own. And they're too overwhelming. He isn't sure how he's even supposed to handle them all, even if, in the end, it isn't needed of him. A part of him is desperately trying to convince himself that there's nothing and no one to blame right now. Again: Yuuki doesn't remember; she isn't at fault.

So he's trying to take her offer to heart. She's the only one he has. He knows that in spite of himself. It isn't that he's obliged to do or say or feel anything.

At the very least he doesn't recoil from her for sitting down beside him. So he's trying.]

The Chairman. . .

[He starts, hands dropping to his lap, though they grasp the fabric of his pants. Still tensed.]

What about him? Did he know all this time?

[For a little bit she's quiet, unsure what to say. She's heartened that at least he's speaking with her. Even if she doesn't know in what direction the conversation will turn. Arms wrapped tightly around her legs she studies her feet.]

I don't know. I think so. [He didn't reject her upon her becoming a vampire at the least.] I don't think he believed I would turn back into a vampire again.

[It could go either way. He's making an effort to at the very least consciously remind himself that this isn't something she had any control over. Even if he's still hurt all the same.

He doesn't feel too pleased with the Chairman, though.]

Did he have some kind of connection with you or something? For a [an ex-] hunter to just take in someone like that. . .

I know he had somewhat of a connection to me, but. . . Master was so much more of a guardian. He didn't simply train me. [He hugs his knees to his chest, a bit more quiet.] I didn't think he'd be too busy.

Hunter. . . ? You mean the chairman? [What is he talking about? It seems that she's not familiar with everything. At least in the dream.]

'Someone like that...' Someone like me, you mean?

[She can still feel]

I don't know if he knew mother and father before anything. Since I wasn't allowed to talk to others or go outside. [She hugs her knees a little tighter, voice quiet.] There were too many people that wanted to hurt me. [Her uncle and the senate.]

I'm glad that he took me in, though. If he hadn't, I don't know what would have happened to me. Oniisama was still too young to look after me on his own.

[She turns her head to the side to regard Zero, though.]

The chairman cares about you a whole lot, though, Zero. Maybe because he took me in, they thought it would be a good fit for you too?

At least he was a hunter. He stopped and took up his cover job full time. At least I think that how it is.

[Zero still is irate over how Yuuki was basically locked away. He's able enough to acknowledge her reasons, but still. He won't say anything this time.]

Maybe. [he frowns] He's still really weird, though, and can be annoying. . .

Mm. [He's quiet for a moment.] I don't really know all of the details or anything, but it's how he knows my Master.

[Why else would he often take Zero aside so Yuuki wouldn't hear what was going on? Right?]

I think he really does enjoy doing all of the academy stuff, though.

I guess I never knew that kind of thing about him. [ Left in the dark again. Even when it pertains to herself, she's always the last to know. And if he's a hunter. . . doesn't it make him feel strange then, having raised a pureblood? She only recently returned to normal.

He still... cares about her the same, right? She swallows and tries not to worry over it. He's taken custody of Zero. If he worried about that kind of thing, he wouldn't have.]

Maybe... because he already had someone like me, maybe they thought it made him the most qualified for him to also adopt Zero?

[He falls into a quiet deliberation over something he isn't sure about saying. Although it comes fairly easily.]

He does love you, though, you know. A whole lot.

[Kind of murmured. But even he can see all of that. The Chairman isn't putting on some kind of act at all. Even though, yes, Zero can also acknowledge how if her adoptive father truly loves her, then he would let her in on things. It's probably just very complicated.

Still. . . note how Zero isn't speaking of himself. It's just as he said earlier. Family is too much.

He just shrugs.]

Dunno. Maybe. [quiet again, he draws his knees in closer.] I know I really can't be upset with Master for not taking me in instead. I know he's super busy. . .

[Zero isn't even sure yet when he'll see him again yet.]

He cares about you too. [She peaks up at him, her words softly spoken and meant to be reassuring.] I know that he does. [He has a big heart, and if he can be a former hunter and accept her, then his heart must be even bigger than she could imagine.]

You're not alone, Zero, [Even without his 'master' that he's speaking of. She feels like he needs to hear this above all else.] You're not alone.

[Shifting her knees over she turns against the wall to scoot nearer, and allow her weight to rest up against his side.]

You have me. I wont go anywhere.

Which maybe is why he has a challenging time to accept what she's telling him. Her affection and sentiments are always so gentle and warm. They're so unconditional and steady and strong.

. . .The very sort of thing that he couldn't possibly deserve.

So he can't find any words. Instead wanting to even further curl in on himself, face buried as if to forcefully prevent anymore tears. Only, this time they're all for a different kind of reason.

But what he does do is allow himself to lean back against her.]

[Words aren't always necessary. Just so long as he knows she is there, that she cares may be the very most important thing. She would never do anything to hurt him intentionally, and she doesn't think that it's good to just leave him alone, either.

Her weight against him, she gently lifts a hand up to softly stroke the top of his head while he curls up on himself.]

[It ultimately is everything he needs. Right now, and forever. He's thought plenty of times over how scared he is of the future, and he's already set out his plan to hunt Shizuka down and kill her before taking his own life.

Yet the way Yuuki quietly pets his hair is enough for him to forget those feelings, even if for these moments.

He doesn't seem to notice when those tears do begin to fall. They wet his cheeks and his sleeves. He tries to keep himself from trembling a little, but it doesn't do much.]
