( unwilling vampire )

[A rather young-looking Zero, around the age of 13, has been wandering the Dome for some time, now. He has no real destination in mind, but instead is just trying to figure out where he is, in general, and how he even got here. It hardly takes much for him to grow frustrated; upset, as well, but that part won't outwardly show.

All he knows is that this place definitely is not home.

At some point he winds up near the Blood Shack. It's as if on instinct alone that he finds the place. He's already keen to the presence of blood in the air as it is with being a vampire hunter. . . . Only, it's been hardly a month since he was turned into a vampire— the very thing he now loathes with every fiber of his being. He still keeps a bandage wrapped around his throat, while also in part to hide a rather large "tattoo" on the left side of his neck.

The very heady scent of blood in the air affects him belatedly, hitting his senses like a ton of bricks. And immediately is he both desperate and hateful. He initially can't even breathe, trembling where he stands with a hand clutching his chest over his heart. The desire to enter the Blood Shack to ease just how much he's physically aching is overwhelming. His other hand moves to claw at the side of his throat where that woman sank her fangs into him. Turning him into an unforgivable monster.

. . .So he turns to run, scrambling to get as far away as he can from such horrible temptation.

He isn't fully paying attention to anyone who might be in the area, only glaring at them before sneering. His eyes are a brilliant and bloody red, unbeknownst to him.]

What are you looking at?

Zero...?

[ The sight of him running- of him as upset is like a vice upon her heart. It's instinct to follow after him, even if... no. He's always been this young, hasn't he? In the end, it doesn't matter. Of course the scent of blood is getting to him. It bothers her, too. She's thirsty, even if she ignores it.

Determined to focus on him, her hand reaches out to catch his shoulder.]

Zero! Are you okay?

[It's a voice that Zero was both hopeful he wouldn't hear, yet needing all the same. — The former because she absolutely must not see him like this.

. . .And also because, unlike the times before, he can't get himself to calm down. The Blood Shack is still within close reach, and more and more does he feel like caving.]

Yuuki. . .?

[He freezes beneath her touch initially. But then his eyes, still a bright and bloody red, go wide and he jerks away.]

Y-You smell like that monster! He's here as well? Leave me alone!

[ (You can't be here.) ]

	But you're not okay right now. [Reaching out again she forcefully takes his hand, fingers clamping tight.] You're thirsty, aren't you? [He doesn't have to suffer alone anymore. I'm fine—!

[Again he tries to yank himself away from her. Yet it's strange. Her grip is tighter than he might have imagined it. . . at least that's how it seems to feel at the very start. Maybe it's his mind playing tricks. He's surprised he can even maintain composure.]

You're not supposed to know.

[At that moment, however, his heart throbs and he grips at his chest, nearly trembling before his hand moves to his throat. He can't look at her. It's too much.]

Why? What's wrong with you!? [Again he tries to pull away.] How dare you take on her appearance!

[Confused and at a loss she stares at him.]

I'm not. I- It's me, Zero. [Her grip carefully tightens.]

I'm trying to tell you. You don't have to fight through things alone. You didn't have to hide anything to begin with. [Can't he see?] We're allies, Zero! No matter what, I'm on your side. I'm not afraid of the Zero that is a vampire. It doesn't matter to me. All that matters to me is Zero!

Y-You can't keep saying that.

[He manages, however more hushed. She can't, because it only hurts. He doesn't deserve such treatment.

There also is the nagging feeling that she feels like one of them. Only he can't put his finger on it. The presence is there, and yet not at all. It only brings on more discomfort and confusion.

He puts space between them, but this time doesn't attempt to get her to let go entirely.

His hand claws his throat enough to tear the bandages. Beneath, the "tattoo" seems to be faintly glowing and spreading. It leaves his blood to boil and the dryness of his throat and mouth to feel as if it's on fire.]

You'd be safer much farther away.

No, I'm fine here and now.

[Panicked as he begins to claw at his throat, she shifts to try and grab his other hand.] Zero, don't-! [It feels like a while since she's seen a scene like this.]

If it's painful, then stop resisting. [Meeting his gaze, she pleads with him.] Just drink my blood, Zero. It wont hurt me. [She promises.]

Maybe... maybe because my blood is pure, it will help. I'm sure that it will!

[His eyes go wide with those words. No. No— he absolutely cannot! The Blood Shack would be the better option, if he has no choice!]

I said no!

[His own gaze darts away from hers again. He can't handle the way she's looking at him. So kind, so unconditional, despite the how much of a wretched monster he is.

The way Yuuki claims that her blood is "pure" only stirs up that unsettling presence again. Why would she say it in such a manner.]

I—

[He swallows hard. Once more he's trembling, slight though still probably noticeable to her. The way tears begin to build up and spill down his cheeks is just out of his control. Head tipping, his hair falls over his eyes.]

Not you. [His jaw clenches.] You're the only one. . . I- I can't. . .

Zero-!

[Pulling him forward, she releases his hand, finally. But she only lets go of him for a moment. Arms wrapping around him she draws him close to hold him in a tight hug.]

I'm here for you. [Her heart aches, stomach dropping from her at the scent of tears. The way he completely closes in on himself, trying not to look at her as though ashamed.] It's okay. Zero is Zero.

[Vampire or human, he's still someone important to her. Someone that she wants to protect.]

I don't want to see you hurt anymore.

[He can't completely push her away. For whatever the reason, there's just no way. Not when he very truly needs this sort of comfort. It's always like this. Even though for her to be so friendly (even admiring) one of them; he can't stand being touched by those same hands. . . but he just cannot push her away.

Only, this is much worse than before, now. He's hurting in every way; desperate, to say the least. Now to be so close to her throat is in no way helpful, only amplifying how Yuuki is so easily offering to help in that manner.

For the immediate moment, though, all he can do is remain as close to her as he can, still trying to hold back his tears. How embarrassing.]

[Her embrace is solid, hands unwavering as she holds him so tenderly. He can cry all he likes, and let it out. She'll understand, and stay with him until the very end. Even if all she can offer is this.

Eyes closing, she feels tears well up within her own eyes. He doesn't deserve to suffer like this. She wishes that wiping away his pain was as easy as drying his eyes. Comforting, she strokes the back of his hair.]

I'll always be on Zero's side.

[He feels the need to ask even while she's given the answer to him already. More than once, even.]

Yes you do.

[There's nothing that makes him undeserving. There's no reason he should feel he deserves anything less than the best, either. Everyone needs to feel loved, and cared about, and safe. Everyone longs for that- for a person they can find comfort in. A person they can trust.

Pulling back, even despite the way her eyes are filled with tears she smiles up for him.]

When I couldn't remember, there was always someone there for me. Even now, the memories of that man... [Her smile falters.] Sometimes it becomes too much to bear, and I feel scared, and lonely. But someone has always been there to pat my head and tell me it's okay.

[A hand reaching up, she rubs the top of his head.]

Even if it's not the same, Zero and I are alike, right? My family, too... because of a bad vampire, we've both lost so much. It's scary, and sad, and sometimes I feel like my chest could burst. But when I see Zero, I think that everything will be okay. [It's almost embarrassing to admit, but she tells him honestly with a tearful smile.]

We're friends, almost the same as family. I want to be be there for you in the same way that you make me stronger, too.

[Even with all of her words, and with such sincerity, Zero has difficulties believing it wholeheartedly for himself. It just isn't that easy. It's hardly been even two months since that night, and since he came to meet her.

He also tries to swallow down the hatred he holds for just who is patting her head as she states. It's a great challenge, though he's attempting to for Yuuki's sake. Trying to.

. . .Yet in the end, there's a very specific part to her reply that has him stalling and pulling back enough to face her.]

[ She nods quietly, her gaze falling down, brows scrunched up. The timeline is all confused within the dream, but Yuuki hardly seems to notice that. Instead, somehow it all makes sense to her.]

Even though I- I always wanted to remember, it's painful to remember, too.

[Lifting her opposite hand up she scrubs it across her eyes.]

Because that scary person recently came for me again, I remembered what happened.

[Zero most of all... it aches to know just how much he's been through. To know that he dislikes what it is he's become.

Without much thought she reaches out to take his hand within her own.]

Even though thinking about what happened is painful, there are some things I'm grateful for. [She tries to smile up at him.] Because the chairman took me in, I've been able to meet Zero.

I can't go back in time.

[Sometimes she wonders what ifs, but-] I was really little when my uncle attacked.

[Her gaze drops to stare at the floor. Even if she knew what was going to happen, what would her five year old self have been able to do? She hadn't even grown in her fangs yet.]

I hadn't seen the outside world before, and the only interaction I had ever had was with mother, father, and my older brother. Even if I went back in time, I don't know who I could have turned to for help. Or how to have faced someone so strong at that age.

[The shock and hurt that crosses her face is as clear as day. Tears are quick the burn at the corner of her eyes. Hands grabbing her skirts, her head dips down so that her bangs fall across her eyes, hiding them from view. Her fangs clench hard, knuckles pulled white and gently shake.]

Don't say that kind of thing as if you know. [Calling her family stupid, tarnishing their name in such a way.] Mother and father died protecting me. The whole time they were protecting me from uncle and the senate, and bad hunters, too.

[She's practically trembling all over, now.]

D-Don't say it like they were bad.
