[ Dirty your nails. ]

[ You wake up in a coffin. You probably won't remember how you got here but now you're six feet under and awake. There's only one way up, through silk and walnut and several feet of loosely packed dirt. Maybe you panic before realizing you don't even breathe, and then panic some more. Maybe you'll just dig yourself out without further ado, because what else is there? Either way, you'll emerge in a graveyard.

It's the dead of night, but you can see clear as day. Everything sharper, more vibrant, crystal clear, an assault on supernatural senses. Cigarette smoke wafts through the air — Spike, sitting on a tombstone, waiting for you. ]

Took you long enough.

[ A night out ]

[ The Bronze is packed tonight. A local band is playing, high schoolers dancing or playing pool or drinking non-alcoholic drinks. A girl with red hair is fooling herself that she's doing homework in a corner when in reality she knows she'll get dragged out onto the dance floor before long, probably by the intense blonde who's already working her moves to the rhythm. It's a good night, good energy.

A guy in a black leather coat and bleach blond hair is surveying the crowd, slowly making his way along the outskirts with menacing intensity. Recognize him? Think this is a good time to say hi? ]

[Hunger isn't an unusual thing for Sebastian. It's been a constant for... well, at the very least three years. This feels slightly different, however. More urgent?]

Had you something in mind to assuage that? [He has some ideas of what Little Mr Hell Dimensions Connections might like to eat already, but let's see if he's actually right about that. Graveyard haunting marks one difference between them already.]

[Sebastian follows easily enough at first - whether because dream logic just makes him go with it or because he's used to fall in behind his master is undecided. He stops, however, when Spike doesn't give him quite the answer he wanted.]

I would quite like to see the menu, so to speak, before deciding.

[Dream logic or not, some things run too deep to just roll with it. Sebastian's fussy eating preferences being one of them.]

Fine. [ He rolls his eyes but okay, fair enough, let's see what the buffet table has to offer tonight. He leads Sebastian out of the graveyard and into more populated areas, inclining his head to the choices available as they go. ]

On the menu tonight we have soccer mom, students both high school and college, football jock if you're looking to get some red meat into your diet... could probably scramble up a hobo without a problem if that's your fancy. We're a little lean on the ethnic choices but maybe there's something left in the back.

I relish a new quality experience. [Food he hasn't tried before, but it has to be top-notch ingredients, you know.

[Idek if Sebastian even understands the abbreviation. He'd probably not understand why Los Angeles, of all places, should be associated with quality (certainly, it's a growing city, but it's hardly a metropolis or particularly groundbreaking in any way...). Well, it's not like Spike's idea of quality seems worth taking into consideration anyway.]

You see now why I call you "young". [But he sounds amused rather than disdainful. You kids and your McDonalds.]

Youth has nothing to do with it, mate. [ He's pretty sure you came out of your mum the way you are. He knows your kind, Sebastian. He used to be your kind, until he decided to step down a rung in the social hierarchy. Or up, depending on your vantage point. ]

The Bronze is usually a good hunting ground. Lots to choose from, lots of teen drinking. It's easy to separate someone from the herd.

[Sebastian is a beginner at this. He doesn't know what the Bronze is (some kind of dance place, maybe? a bar? or a brothel? it doesn't matter), or really what he's hungry for and how they'd even go about dining.

Clearly he's justified in looking down at Spike with an entirely confident, smug smile.]

And of course that is no shame upon the teacher, should his student struggle. [He'll show you, brat. Sebastian discards his gloves as they walk - no helping it if they're going with the honey-approach of catching something - brushing his fingers through his hair. It's dark; he'll look handsome enough even with the grave dirt still on him.]

[See, this is why Sebastian considers himself so much better than the average demon. What's even the point of doing anything - whether that's snaring a victim, eating, or tutoring - if you aren't prepared to do it well? Other demons are such lazy, unambitious things.

He supposes he should feel sorry for Spike if he has so little of interest going on that he willingly spends his time on things he doesn't care about.]

Please don't judge me too harshly, then.

[Is that the Bronze over there? Sebastian completely dismisses Spike - he can tag along or linger behind as he pleases - instead walking up to two teens standing outside the club. He doesn't even know if he'd be let into the Bronze - might as well make it easy, then, if that's what's Spike's into.]
