[It's only your third time to be deployed out into battle. Your Fafner to some degree still feels foreign, despite the extensive training you've completed. It'll still take awhile before you're fully acclimated to when you connect* with the mecha directly through your nervous system; it feels akin to an electric chair, but it is imperative for you and the Fafner to perfectly sync as one being. You also are psychologically and emotionally linked via Crossing with the other pilots who have been sent out.

Initially the brilliant gold of the alien enemy, maybe one hundred meters tall, if not more, leaves you in awe. Even though you've faced Festum before (granted, only a couple other times), you're practically frozen in place. You can feel yourself begin to panic as it draws nearer, close to invading your mind.

. . .That is, until, from not far behind, a powerful laser strikes. The Festum is engulfed by a massive black orb. Similar to a black hole, the alien blinks out of existence altogether.]

Are you all right?

[You turn to see a red apparition of Kazuki beside you within your cockpit. He's at ease, wanting to check up on you.]

You're doing just fine. Just remember your training, and the times you've been sent out before. You aren't alone. All of us are fighting with you.

[Kazuki's appearance fades again as the battle continues. You're able to calm down thanks to his reassurance. Even so, you continue to remain linked with both he and everyone. If you need anything, all you need to do is speak up.

Soon, you're back in the hangar and exiting the pod-shaped cockpit, along with four other pilots, and Kazuki, who then approaches you.]

How are you feeling? Let's hurry on and go for our check-up.
_______

[ peace ]

Welcome to Rakuen. Feel free to take a seat anywhere.

[Kazuki says cheerfully from behind the counter. The air is filled with the scent of food, and the ambiance of the café is warm and friendly. A number of others are seated throughout, chatting amongst each other, while enjoying their meal. This isn't the true Rakuen, back on Tatsumiya Island, Kazuki's homeland, but Watatsumi Island's version of the café isn't too bad.

A boy, no older than maybe 4, soon approaches the table. In his small hands he carefully holds a tray with a glass of ice water on it. He lifts it up to offer it to the guest before returning to Kazuki, looking quite pleased with himself and expresses as such. Kazuki chuckles and lightly ruffles the boy's sandy blonde hair.]

Good job, Soushi. You're doing very well.

[It isn't too long before Kazuki goes to take the person's order. Curry is by far the most popular, here.]

[ooc: * Going along w that gif, initially connecting can make the nerves feel like they're on fire, basically. Also, BOTH OF THESE ARE LUCID for Kazuki.]

[Terrifying and breathtaking all at once... doesn't it sound somewhat like a vampire?]

Human resilience... it's definitely incredible.

It is. Sometimes it's the only option. Things may get difficult, but at the least we all have each others backs. There only are so many who can be on the front lines, but as a whole everyone has their own part.

How do you... fight against space invaders, though?

[For as serious as the topic is, her word choice is a bit amusing.]

We use something called a Fafner. It's [a beat] well, I guess you'd call it a giant robot. Along with ground work, they can fly as well as operate under water. [She might recall their talk about how he's flown before, because this is the reason why.] The enemy is often even larger than them, but we've done well.

[ . . . . . . ]

Y-You're from a mecha world, Kazuki-san?

That's so crazy... [It really is!] Back home you only hear about those kinds of things in manga.

A-Ah. Well, that's what you get from there being different worlds. Someone's reality may only be another person's work of fiction.

What sort of world would seem like fiction to you?

Vampires, for one. [A bit wryly spoken.]

Although. . . I guess normalcy could count. A world where people are at ease. A world where people don't have to be at the ready to fight. Going to school, doing things for the fun of it, being able to travel the world and learn of different cultures. [The reply is bittersweet.] A place where the most important thing on the minds of children is making friends, winning a school sports tournament, what clubs to join, or how they'll spend their weekend.

[Sorry. He's rambling too much. Such a life really is one he, nor any of the others, will ever see. Not in the near future at least.]

It was like that at one point in time. That sort of life is nice to imagine, but in the end we can't focus on the past. Moving forward and looking to the future is what we must do.

[It's sad... that someone who wants so much for those things can't experience it for himself.]

I'm sorry that things are so turbulent... I hope that you are able to achieve all of those things some day.

A-Ah. . .

[Now he's a little embarrassed for how long-winded that reply was.]

Well. We do what we can. That's all there really is.

I don't doubt at all that you do.

[And she's glad that they're here in a small moment like this, where things are peaceful, cheerful, and happy.]

Mm. [A bit quiet. He smiles, though, light though genuine.] Thanks. Really.
