Backside of the TV

[You're in a maze. It might be a sauna, hot and muggy and thick with steam. Or maybe it's a strip club, dark with violet curtains covering the walls and secret corners with music pounding through the air and whispers you can't quite make out as you wander the corridors. Maybe you're in what looks like a video game with blocky, artificial looking dungeon walls and floors. Or perhaps it's a secret base like you'd see in an action movie, the kind with sliding blast doors and scaffolding to climb around on. Maybe your maze is beautiful, like a fairy tale, or the way a child would imagine heaven, full of clouds and flowers and somehow heartbreakingly sad.

You can wander around whichever maze you find yourself in. Maybe you'll stay there, maybe they all begin to blur together and you find yourself drifting from one to another as you explore the hallways. They all have one thing in common though; they're full of Shadows, dark monsters that you can sneak past or fight. Probably fight, since Kanji is with you every step of the way, folding chair sling easily over his shoulder and looking for some action. He's wearing a pair of glasses, and you may notice you have a pair on, too. Pick whatever style you'd like, but if you take them off your surroundings will be lost in a fog that makes your head hurt. Try not to get lost in it.]

[There are many things that are more frightening than cloudy mazes full of bright scattered light and ornate gates. The creatures in the maze, for example. Nathan tries to stay as small and quiet as possible to avoid attracting their attention.

At least until he sees Kanji and his folding chair. Relief floods through him and he risks moving a little faster and less stealthily to reach his friend. (It's weird to think of anyone as a friend.)]

Kanji? D'you know where we are?

[He glances around and shakes his head.] Naw, if any Shadows show up I can fight 'em. This place just kinda bums me out. Nanako's my friend's kid sister. Some creep kidnapped her and threw her in the TV and she was still in the hospital when I got stuck in prison so I dunno if she's okay or not. [He looks around again at the clouds and bright light, so different from all the other places they've fought.] Her mom died awhile ago and we think it looks like this 'cause she wants to see her again.

[There might not be here but as soon as they round the next corner there will be. Somehow the scenery changes, in that way that makes sense in dreams and the maze they're in now is a sauna, steamy and hot and very different. Kanji glances around, looking grumpy.] Naw, we think hers didn't because she's so little. She doesn't really have anything she hides about herself.

	Yeah, that's kinda how this stuff works. Most of it is stuff you wouldn't guess about a person. And your Shadow, it's the monster that looks like you and is made out of all that hidden stuff.
