Day 372 | Closed Video to Jack | Open Action
[Video to Jack]

[She'd forgotten her umbrella when she walked out. Whatever. Martha certainly wasn't going to turn around and go get it. She should calm down before calling Jack. But she doesn't follow that line of reasoning either. The video of her is clearly one pissed off, wet Martha.]

Anything. You'd do anything to get him back. Bastard!

---

[Open Action]

After hanging up with Jack, Martha looked around. She hadn't been paying attention to where she was going, but found herself in Sector 0. Seemed she'd been walking laps. She hadn't felt this off balance in a while. She thought about going to yell at Spike too, though that honestly wouldn't make any of this better. No, perhaps she needed to go back to early in her time here when Oz had taught her meditation techniques.

The rain wasn't so helpful with this, so she made her way to the Tree Grove and found a tree with a decent overhang. It would keep her decently dry. Martha sat cross legged and closed her eyes. She forced her breathing to deepen, forced her mind to calm. The rain was had a more pleasant sound here. It added to the peace of the moment. In and out. In and out.

"You'll have to explain English to me, though if I had to wager a guess, I'd say that would be right in line with my being too Alderaanian to function, sometimes."

Though lately, it seemed like the bullheadedness was less a staple of her homeworld and more an aspect of her blood. Her heritage was neither here nor there at the moment. This was about Martha and her former friends, not Leia.

A nod. "I'm familiar with them. Some more than others." She knows who Spike is, but she can't recall having ever held a conversation with the vampire.

"Something like that. We still have individual countries on my planet. I'm from the United Kingdom. British would be the more proper term I guess." She's not really thinking about nationality at the moment though.

"Ianto and Jack are from home. Mostly. Different times, but I know both of them. We've saved the world together. Jack and I have been through some difficult times with teh world saving. I thought we were close.

"A while back, before we shoved a soul in him, Spike was... evil." She tilts her head to the side and points to the scar. "He claims he wasn't trying to kill me. If he had been trying to kill me, I'd be dead. But he didn't let go until I kicked him in the groin."

It's disjointed. Probably doesn't make sense. But it's the best she can do. Martha still isn't quite sure what happened.

Disjointed, but connected enough that Leia can follow along well enough.

"Just because someone wasn't trying to kill you doesn't make whatever they did to you okay. It doesn't excuse it, nor does suddenly having a soul make what happened right all of a sudden."

If redemption was that easy of a get out of jail card, she would've forgiven Anakin Skywalker for all the atrocities he committed as Darth Vader. She wouldn't still be holding tight to a grudge she should really work on letting go of.

"That's what I keep saying! And now Jack and Ianot have bluebanded with Spike. Becasue apparently they care deeply for him. Or Ianto does and Jack will do whatever to keep Ianto... and I don't have a say in their relationships or who they fuck but... but they didn't even stop to think that maybe this would hurt others."

Martha pulls her knees to her chest and rests her forehead on them.

"And I'm so tired of always being second or third best."

"I see."

And she does. For it's not the three party relationship that perturbs her (there were plenty of cultures and species with stranger martial practices), it's the lack of consideration for those around them. Those they supposedly held dear.

"While I understand that Captain Jack wanted to ensure that his relationship with this Ianto remained intact, he did so without taking your feelings into consideration. Especially in an instance where you were threatened by someone in this new relationship and what it would mean to be in this person's presence should they want to get together as a group."

Leia reaches out, places a gentle hand on Martha's shoulder. "I'm sorry they're making you feel that way."

It's the hand that does it. Martha wasn't going to cry again. She was done crying. But that hand... Martha can feel the sobs rushing to the surface again and she turns into Leia.

"Why am I so bad at making friends?"

Oh no. Leia's intention wasn't to make the woman cry again, and she hopes those tears weren't her unintentionally influencing Martha's emotions. Her Jedi-ness tends to run away with her at times, and John Young wasn't here long enough to work with her on controlling it all.

"You're not," the princess insists, drawing the other woman into a hug. "You're not."

Likely it wasn't. Martha really was upset, and any sympathy was more than she was prepared for. She cries until she can't anymore and then just sits there a moment longer before pulling back and wiping her hand across her face. She leans back against the tree, turning her head up to the sky to wash away the rest of her tears.

"Sorry. Didn't mean to lose it like that..."

Leia shakes her head, quietly dismissing the apology.

"No, it's fine. You needed to let it out."

She may be the pot calling the kettle black, but bottled up emotions don't do anyone any favors. She's happy that she was able to give Martha the opportunity to vent about her troubles and let some of that sadness out.

Martha lays her head back on her knees again, facing Leia this time. "What would you do if you were in my position?"

She's still so raw she hasn't actually thought about the ramifications of either fight.

"I would confront them," she answers honestly, adding, "but keep in mind that I confront people for a living. My method of handling people, both personally and professionally, doesn't always work for everyone. And I'm told I can be rather... abrasive. That I tend to, and I quote: 'Mow people over like a ship in hyperdrive.'"

"Confronting's not as big a problem as you would think," Martha answers. "For a while, my entire job seemed to be confronting people. Person. Head of the division we worked for. He was an ass."

She shakes her head.

"It's harder though when it's your friends."
