[Bruce is not amused for a variety of reasons not least of all that he has more important things to be doing. Whatever that person showed him, the future, a dream, he isn't sure what but something's coming and he needs to be finding the other people like Diana to help.

But instead he's here. In prison. He's usually the one putting people in prison. (Well, Arkham is more of an asylum than traditional prison but close enough.)

In any case, he puts on his public persona before opening up the video, at least it's a mask he's used to wearing.
]

I have to wonder if everyone's list of crimes are quite as colorful as mine is -- if I didn't know better I might think someone was trying to slander my good name.

[Actually, most of them are right but people don't need to know that. Bruce Wayne is totally not Batman.]

Perhaps you've heard of me, Bruce Wayne, the owner of Wayne Enterprises in Gotham City. I will admit I've had a shall we say colorful reputation over the years but I would hardly think it warrants being imprisoned.

I'd ask how one gets out of this place but if that was possible I'm sure none of you would be here still. Of course, if I'm wrong in that assumption, please let me know. I have things I need to attend to back home.

[There's a smarmy sort of smile as he thinks of how to end this message. ]

If there's anything you think I should know about this place, please enlighten me, I'm all ears.

No. It's not someplace I ever saw myself being in, honestly.

[Other then when he goes to interrogate villains....]

Neither did I.

[ oh, she's sure there's a sketchy tabloid out there somewhere that would disagree with that. stories have problem already been run on the playboy CEO of wayne enterprises landing himself in prison alongside the crooks that plague his city. ]

Someone told me to think of it as a vacation. [ a scoff, a shake of her head. ] Maybe it's not what you'd expect a prison to look like, but it's still prison. It's not a vacation. It's a life sentence.

[ quietly: ] I didn't do anything.

[ except she did, and maybe on some level she thinks she needs to be punished for the things she did under the influence of red kryptonite, but were actions committed under unwilling influence worth being incarcerated over? wasn't there someone here she could plead temporary insanity to? what happened to judges and juries? she stood no trial. (even back on krypton, she would have stood trial for her supposed "crimes.") ]

Some vacation. I prefer mine to have tropical settings and beautiful women.

[Haha. Like the Batman takes vacation. Even when Bruce Wayne does Batman is usually still working.

That's just how it goes.

The softness of her voice tugs at something. This isn't how prison is supposed to work. It's supposed to be for people like the Joker, people beyond redemption. And in less severe cases it's supposed to rehabilitate and help people.

This is a perversion of the system and it makes his blood boil.
]

This isn't right. There is no justice in this.

[Is this how people look at his actions as Batman? Someone taking justice into their own hands.]

[ and supergirl does? she might've found vacations a welcomed novelty back when she was new to earth and eating up every bit of this new culture that she could get her hands on, but taking a break just doesn't seem like something she has the luxury of doing anymore. not when she has (well, had) all this power and finally figured out how to use it to help people. national city needs her. the world needs here.

she can't stay here. she just can't. ]

I don't think our wardens know the meaning of the word.

[no, most heroes don't take vacations. not real one anyway. bruce has been to all parts of the world but it was always for business, not for pleasure. then again he takes the idea of being married to the job to new heights.

poor alfred is never getting grandkids. not biological ones, anyway.
]

Nor do I. Prison is supposed to be for rehabilitation, to help people, not to punish people for petty crimes.

[Okay, so maybe his crimes weren't exactly petty and he's fully claimed to be a criminal before but still.]

I completely agree.

[ even if fort rozz had, apparently, been a cruel and horrible place that those who escaped from it had nightmares about, she likes to believe that her mother and the rest of the kryptonian council had nothing but the best of intentions when they sentenced criminals to that place. krypton was a peaceful, non-violent world. she doesn't remember everything about their justice system, but she wants desperately to believe that cases were reexamined and that her mother intended to make an appeal on her twin sister's behalf. ]

Listen, Mr. Wayne, I'm as new to this place as you are, but if there's anything you need — anything at all — I'm happy to assist. That is, after all, my job.

[ and she knows well how big time CEOs function without someone to remind them of all the little things they forget. if she can't function as supergirl right now, she might as well start doing what kara danvers does best. that job was her lifeline. it kept her grounded. she's going to need a lot of that in this place. ]

[Arkham isn't exactly a perfect place either. It's had it's share of corruption over time. He's seen people go from doctor to inmate there and it's discouraging but if he starts completely distrusting the system then he's already beat.]

I must admit, I do feel a little lost without Alfred, my butler.

[and personal assistant. and handler. sasser. doctor. and who knows what other jobs Alfread actually performs. all we really know is he's probably not paid enough which is saying something as he's actually paid quite a bit and probably has a huge retirement fund.]

And I feel a little lost without Miss Grant.

[ in her own way, she always knew what to say. always had some witty comeback like a determined, thundery cloud with a bright silver lining. she could use some of cat grant's brand of optimism right now. ]

So maybe working together we can both feel a little less lost.

[It's weird not to have Alfred or his unlimited resources at his fingertips. It makes him feel uneasy and having some sort of ally, even in the form of an assistant, is better than nothing.]

I don't exactly have my fortune here to pay you with. But yes.

I've been told everything's free, so I think fortunes are a little pointless in prison.

Which isn't a no. In fact, that's a yes. I'd be happy to assist you, Mister Wayne.
