Day 367 - open
Video

[Congrats MarinaNova - here is a Yuuki look-alike. She looks almost exactly like the young Kuran except her hair is slightly more wavy. Perhaps Yuuki is trying out a new look. Or not. Either way, Ai has already gotten rid of her orange jumpsuit because no way was she going to be seen in that hideous thing. Instead she's acquired a maroon dress that suits her much better.]

I've been sent to a prison? That list of crimes doesn't even make any sense! You can't claim someone was disturbing the peace if they're doing their job as a prefect. [And... some of those other things as well. Quieter now:] Mother is going to be upset.

To sentence someone to prison without even giving them a trial is unjust. Who do I speak with in order to dispute these charges? Surely there's a lawyer somewhere that I can consult.

Action - For Yuuki

[With her wardrobe and phone call taken care of, Ai takes the opportunity to look around the prison. Wandering through the different sectors because surely there has to be somewhere to sleep other than to become a hobo and find some store doorway to call 'home'. Her map says there are apartment buildings but of course Ai has to check them out before deciding which one to live in.

It's in her search that she comes across someone familiar. Though her hair is shorter than Ai last saw, she speeds up to head Yuuki off before she disappears.]

Mother!

[Well, at least her mother can't be mad for ending up in prison...]

Of course she has a daughter. [INTERNAL HUFF. But Ai states it rather casually.]

Hello, Yuuri. Strangely my mother has never mentioned you before.

[And Ai has pretty much met all of Yuuki's friends. Some have visited since she was a young child and more frequently. Her mother is a talkative person, always speaking of her friends and family fondly even those who Ai hasn't actually met before. Those she can't meet.

But his first comment comes back to her.]

Unless she'd forgotten you? [Yuuri had spoken of memories.]

[His smile wobbles and falls at that assessment before managing to perk back up again. He should show a better face to his friend's daughter. It's what Conrad would do.]

She's only known me here. We're not from the same world. My world has demons, not vampires. It's probably complicated, but I'm glad to meet you now.

[He runs a hand sheepishly through his hair.] I must have a lot of birthdays to make up for.

[It's not quite making sense -- his words. Ai had just seen her mother (not so secretly spying on her) and so Yuuki couldn't have possibly have been here very long.]

You said you'd explain the important things. Does one of those things involve forgetting this place?

[Manners, she has them.]

Nice to meet you as well.

[Oh. Birthdays.] That's not necessary.

Oh! Sure. Well, I'm not sure how that works, because no one ever actually leaves. So, you probably just haven't talked to her since she knew me.

...You're also probably from the future. Are there flying cars yet?

What do you mean by 'no one ever actually leaves'? [She's aware it's a prison but even in normal prisons, people leave. Sometimes. Or end up getting the death sentence.] I haven't seen her since I arrived here, but I was nearby before this happened.

Since you're saying it, I'm guessing that it's a possibility here. [What?] No, not where I'm from anyway.

It's all life sentences. [Even when it seems like people leave, they don't. Not that he saw it for himself, but others talked about it.]

It is. I know it sounds weird, but so does having a daughter that's probably your age. Aww.

They can't possibly keep me here that long, can they? [Considering her life could be thousands of years. Plus if her mother is here and from the past that doesn't explain how Ai just saw her.]

That doesn't make any sense. How can someone not leave but have just been seen over sixteen years later? [Give her all of the details, Yuuri.] Sorry to disappoint you.

Well, I think most of us want to find a way out of here as soon as we can. [But it's been over a year now so...]

They tell us that they put a double of ours in our place who won't make the same criminal decisions.

I do not want to spend the next few thousand years here. [Speaking very honestly. Even if she has the opportunity to meet new people, Ai does not want to live here.

She considers that. If Yuuki is here and hasn't mentioned her, than she probably isn't even pregnant yet.]
If that's true then I'm not Yuuki's daughter but the daughter of this duplicate. And I hardly believe that's true.

[A few thousand years? It sounds so long. Even demons don't get that old. Ulrike is 600 and suddenly that sounds young.]

I guess it sounds pretty complicated when you say it like that. I don't really understand it either. I just know Yuuki is here and so am I and so are you now.

[Her grandparents had been about 3000 before they died. And they would have lived even longer if not for Rido. Her own father is even older than that.]

Do you have any proof to support the duplicate story? [Not that she's discarding it completely, but Ai can't bring herself to believe it without proof.] That part is most definitely true. We are all here.

No. It's just what I've heard. It could be something else. I mean, people come here and then other people come without realizing they've been missing. That's all we really know.

If they're capable of taking people from different points in time, then it would stand to reason that they could put us back at the same moment we left without anyone even noticing we were missing.

That's probably true. I wonder why they'd make up a more confusing story if it's not real. [Unless that's the reason it is real?]

Confusion can be an important tool to use. While they have us all confused, it prevents us from seeing the truth.

I guess so, but why lie to us at all if we can't leave anyway?
