Day 363 - Open Video/Action
[Video]

[The video opens on a man sitting squarely in view, his bearing better suited to someone awaiting a big job interview than a newly incarcerated prisoner.]

Hello, MarinaNova Asylum. My name is Felix Gaeta. I'd say that it's a pleasure to join your ranks, but I don't want to start off on a lie.

I've been over the information I was provided with on arrival and it left a number of things unanswered. Namely... [a pause to pick up a notepad] ...is all of this really virtual, and, if so, does anyone know where our bodies are?

Do you have a leader or any kind of civilian government?

Is everything here actually free for the taking, or are there strings attached?

[He pauses again, flips a couple of pages, and sighs.]

Maybe this is a better question: do you have an archive or some other collection of information that hasn't been provided by the wardens? No one wants me to go through all of these, including me.

[And scene.]

[Action]

[Gaeta can be found at the library—taking notes, likely—or at any of the many eateries in Marina, admiring the sheer selection available. He won't go out of his way to be friendly.]

I do like a good analytical breakdown. [Teasing and yet, she actually really does.] Most people just complain about the orange and want to yell at the wardens or talk about how they had something important to do at home. [Not that she blames anyone for their reaction. It's a big damn thing even for people used to big damn things.

It could've been a more thorough breakdown. [And, if he was in a different mood, that could've been an opportunity to flirt.] Do most people get results when they do that? Sounds like a waste of time to me.

Now you're just talking dirty. [Apparently she's in the mood he could have been. Not that she's taking it even a little seriously.]

Most people get the result of still being in orange and still being here if that counts. But it's not like they show up knowing it's happened dozens of times before them.

If you keep that up, I could be convinced to share my notes with you. [Insincere flirting is an easy thing to slide into. Oops.]

Don't they listen to the message? [Doesn't everyone? Isn't that what you do when you pop into a prison unexpectedly?]

You really think you've got anything in your notes I haven't seen before? [Smirking.]

You'd be surprised how many don't.

I bet I could surprise you. [He raises his eyebrows suggestively.]

Maybe not... now that I think about it, almost everyone I know would skip straight to yelling.

They always think they can. [Amused look instead of the challenging one she might be giving if she meant any of this seriously.]

That must make you stand out.

Don't dismiss me before you see how rigorously I can analyze a problem. [Now it's a parody of flirting.]

You'd think so.

Giving a problem a work out is nice, but you've got to do it with finesse too. [They should probably stop. She doesn't want to actually encourage anything.]

But not so much?

[info]didwhaticould
2016-02-25 05:45 pm UTC (link)
Are you questioning my ability to reach a satisfactory conclusion? [Nothing is being encouraged!]

Not so much. [It's a strange thing to clam up about, but that's not stopping him.] So what's so special about pizza?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]kitty_has_claws
2016-02-25 06:33 pm UTC (link)
[Well, in that case.] I just wouldn't want you to get too cocky about your research prowess it and gloss over the important detail work.

[He gets a glance for being cagey over something that seems like nothing. Or at least did before the cagey set in. Now, what's special about pizza? It reminds her of home before everything fell apart. When she had a mom and a dad and all the unconditional love in the world. When she had a future that was full to overflowing with every kind of possibility from being a professional dancer to starting the next big tech revolution. It's a piece of Chicago that lives on even after everything else was smoking ruins.]

The abundance of cheese mostly. Toppings are good too. Also the crust and sauce.

Success is in the details, and my attention to detail is unparalleled.

[She can't prove that he was being cagey. Maybe he's just really interested in pizza!]

It sounds life-altering. [That probably wouldn't have been so sarcastic if he could read bracket text.]

[She'll let it go for now. The innuendo too.] Just you wait. So, what's your favorite food anyway? Remember, these are the important prison questions.

[It's just as well. Witty repartee could lead to falling madly in love and Kitty doesn't need any more of that.]

Chocolate. [The quickest of answers.] Any kind, in any form.

Hey, eye on the prize. Pizza first. If you're good I'll take you for dessert. [As in chocolate, not letting you fall in love.]

[Um, chocolate is preferable to falling in love, excuse you.]

[Of course it is, but you don't have to call it out like that.]

Can you think of a better time to doubt someone than when you barely know them? I mean except in cases of vicious betrayal.

[Damn, Kitty. Holocausts, vicious betrayal... it's like you're trying to make him think about all the worst things that have ever happened. This time, though, he manages to keep his negative reaction limited to looking down and crossing his arms protectively.]

I don't know. I like the idea of assuming that strangers mean well until they prove otherwise. [Likes the idea. Doesn't necessarily subscribe to it.]

[She notices the shift in body language. You too, bro?]

If I'd done that at home I'd have died. [A lot faster than she actually did.] Here? Well, here I'm taking you for pizza so it can't be all bad.

The place is right there. [nodding forward.]

[Eventually they should start a support group for apocalypse survivors with trust issues and questionable taste in men.]

Well... it's better in theory than in practice. [Saying "same" would have been awkward and too revealing.] Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt.

[Now lead him to pizza.]

[Already two people feels like a lot for that particular group. Their life choices should be questioned.]

[She even opens the door for him because she's a lady and she decided not to scare him by ignoring the door.]

We can order by the slice so you can try different things.

[Ah, chivalry is not dead in this universe. Thank you for not breaking the laws of physics as he knows them just yet.]

My mind is already boggled by the options. [No, seriously. There's more than one option. That's a lot.] What do you suggest? I'm partial to anything that isn't freeze-dried or reconstituted.

You're in luck. It all tastes fresh here.

[A little bot comes up to their table, ready to take their order.] I'll just get a variety of things. We can always take the leftovers home. [Separate homes. That wasn't an invitation to move in. Looking at the bot she starts listing things off by the slice getting thin, thick, and deep dish options. A simple pepperoni, a supreme, all cheese, all veggie, hawaiian, bbq chicken, and a couple of other things just to round it out.]
