[Wander here and stumble there. Mal had thought to go to the stables, but apparently smelling the way he did bothered the horses. He finally ends up on the beach, staring at nothing as he continues to drown himself in whiskey. Fight for those who love him? What does it matter? He's just going to get captured by Niska and tortured to death. The wardens didn't see fit to show him the fact he would actually survive that...

Of course, there's always the chance he can change that future. But it's hard to see at the moment. He'd rather wallow in self pity.]

Aidan, I was a miserable ol' man most my life. Fought for a tiny bit of freedom. Fought to keep my crew. Hell, I almos' died fightin' for my ship. An' it worked for me pretty well. There was some sorta goodness in all of it. Was miserable here too up until Inara an' I finally hooked up. Biggest mistake of my life. Should never've let myself be happy. You don't fall so hard if you stay miserable. You know?

Not sure even how to find the glue to piece myself back together. Can't walk nor crawl no more.
