DAY 358 ★ ACTION, CLOSED TO REID & ELENA

[ leia doesn't stop. once she's out the door of the squeeze, she heads directly for the next sector. she knows that spencer lives in sector three's apartments, but she doesn't know which apartment — but she doesn't need to. it's easy to seek out and find his distinct presence once she's on the grounds of the complex. she follows it until it leads her to his door.

she takes a moment to school her expression, expertly pulling back her rage and replacing it with something much more neutral. whether her mask will work on a criminal profiler is up for debate, but leia can't bring herself to care.

raising her hand, she knocks on the door. ]

Just water is fine. [ which means she's hanging around longer than she intended.

of course, she originally planned on saying her piece and leaving, but she didn't anticipate him being able to defend himself so readily. kitty's revelation set her off, had her thinking the worst of the person she's grown closest to since she found herself trapped here. ]

[ there's so much she could ask, so much she wants to know. but she doesn't know where to start or if she even should. she's still pretty emotionally raw, and starting to feel the wear and tear from overexerting herself with the force in ways she's unaccustomed to. that may not be the best idea. leia knows her limitations and sometimes, she even heeds them.

How much— I mean to say, what does this franchise, as Elena called it, even cover? Me? My brother? [ her father??? ]

[ time comes screeching to a halt. leia hugs the pillow to her, hand tightening around the bottle.

both of them. not just her father, but her mother, too. a woman whose name leia doesn't even know. a woman who she didn't even have a clear image of until she came her and was provided with a photograph of the two of them that day the prison tried to force them to deal with their issues. leia doesn't know anything about her beyond what she remembers. and her memories don't provide her with much. ]

	I have a photograph. [ she's not looking at him. she's staring past him at the wall, at whatever he's written on the wall without reading it. ] It was one of the ones they gave us in attempt to make us deal with our feelings during those ridiculous therapy sessions. [ kest. and now she's getting a different kind of emotional. the anger has bled out of her and now she's just... upset. about a lot, but mostly, in this moment, about the fact that she has a photograph of her parents and she doesn't even know her mother's name.

leia looks up, blinks back tears. ] She's pregnant in the photograph. I guess you could call it a family portrait.

[ she never got a chance to show it to luke. she had mixed feelings about doing so while he was here, selfishly not wanting to deal with whatever delight he'd find in seeing an image of what anakin skywalker looked like before he was darth vader. ]

Leia...

[ Oh no... oh no no. He can't handle her crying – can't keep a respectful distance if she's overcome with emotion like this. He moves off the armrest, unsure of where to go next and eventually settling for kneeling on the floor in front of her rather than taking a seat. He's worried she'll take it the wrong way, like he's trying to take advantage even though he never would. ]

They can be so cruel here.

[ her brows knit together. that first name means nothing to her, but it would be expecting too much to be able to place the name of a woman who got involved (romantically or otherwise, briefly or long term) with a jedi knight. she was probably nobody. barely worth a footnote in history's pages. but then he provides her with her woman's last name, and the bottle slips from her fingers. it rolls off the couch and falls to the floor as her jaw goes slack in open, unbridled surprise.

she knows that name. queen and senator, a great pioneer of some of the ideals that bail organa had gone out of his way to impress upon his adoptive daughter. how often had he spoken of her, mentioned her, included something in her lessons about the things that she did? leia knew that her father had been a dear friend of the late senator's and that she'd been unfortunate enough to get caught in the crossfire that brought down the jedi order (and that the empire, officially, blamed the jedi for her death), but not once did she stop and consider that the woman could be her biological mother. ]

[ she doesn't cry. perhaps it's true that she has every right to — especially today — but she doesn't. it's not that well has tried up inside her, it's that she doesn't quite feel like she has the right. comfort, she'll take, but tears are something to be endured alone. later, when she's by herself, she'll sit down and allow herself to sob openly over unwanted reminders and a name to go with a face that's haunted her for as long as she can remember.

her arms tighten around his shoulders, forehead resting against the curve of his neck. a few more minutes, and then she'll go. (or so she tells herself.) ]

[ crying in front of others isn't something she does, and she hates that she was so openly distraught when han was lowered into the carbonite that she allowed herself to weep openly in front of vader, fett, and a swarm of stormtroopers. she wasn't always this cold, distant, and closed off, but she's had to reshape herself after alderaan, mold herself into the sort of infallible leader the rebellion needed her to be. the immovable princess. the one who would not fall. the face and figurehead of the alliance. ]

It's not your fault. [ he was at fault for lying to her, but that photograph wasn't his doing. all those who lied to her and luke wasn't his doing. nor was whatever happened to her mother. ] Thank you for telling me.
