Day 341: video [open to action]
[the video feed cuts on to show a determined looking redhead standing on the beach. she doesn't hesitate once audio connects and it's clear, if only by the way she holds herself, that neither unfamiliar technology or being randomly abducted to some ridiculous "prison" intimidate her very much. when she speaks, she somehow manages to sound authoritative, friendly, and irritable all in one. what can she say? she has skills.]

So hi there. My name's Charlie Bradbury and, to totes state the obvious, I'm new. Any chance someone who hasn't drank the Kool-Aid want to help a girl out and offer up the 411 on what's being done to blow this crapshoot? That'd be super.

[the next bit is private to sam and dean winchester and protected via charlie's own (albeit quickly tossed together) encryption protocol; charlie's neutral expression immediately becomes a grin and she waves almost perkily at the feed.]

Miss me, bitches?

[ooc: if anyone wants to meet charlie face-to-face instead, she'll be near the beach area unless they icly discuss meeting elsewhere.]

[Who?]

[Squinting a little. Does he know any demons who would be in new bodies smiling and waving at him? No, he's got nothing.]

[Charlie blinks. She blinks again. She squints then gives a slight shake of her head before blinking one more time.

Nope. Still very much not how Sam looked literally just the other day.

She knows something is going on. She isn't stupid. She does, however, have a bad problem of blurting things out without thinking them through and this time is no exception.]

Dude. What happened to your hair?!

[Yep, totally the thing to be focusing on right now.]

Don't take this the wrong way, but who are you?

[Oh. He doesn't know her. That explains... a lot, actually.

Charlie is torn between sheepish that she didn't figure that out sooner and irritated that it's happening at all. She settles for a soft sigh and apologetic grin.]

Right. [The first word is spoken slowly, almost dragged out. The rest, however, follows in rapid succession. Hello nervous babble, so nice to see you again.]

Okay so like I said, my name is Charlie Bradbury and I'm guessing that timelines plus shenanigans equals you not knowing who I am... and also explains why your hair is different. Which kinda sucks, like, a lot - not your hair, it's as rad as ever, even if it makes Dean twitch, but the whole not knowing me thing considering I've helped you and Dean, and sometimes Cas, save the world. A bunch. Seriously, you guys should have your own show or something, it's ridic for realsies. [a breath] I've known you guys for a couple of years now and honestly if you'd just tell me the last thing you went through back home that'd probably make this a whole lot easier. [she flashes him a hopeful smile] Please?

[No show please. Their own book series is more than enough. He's accidentally read fanfic he can't unread already. But more to the point he listens and she seems authentic. It also wouldn't be the first time the wardens played fast and loose with time.

And when he came from isn't top secret. Of course it gets more complicated since the wardens also play fast and loose with their minds. One day he had an extra year or so of memories and was missing his soul. It reversed itself by the next morning. His soul was back in place and only the most powerful of those memories remained in place, feeling less like something he actually lived through and more like something he heard about. But even hearing about planning to kill Bobby was...big. So big he hasn't even told Dean yet. It's just harder to spill your angsty feelings without the Impala.]

Okay, for me [because it's different for Dean], we were working a case in Blue Earth, Minnesota dealing with the Whore of Babylon.* Um, 2010?

[Recognition makes her eyes widen slightly and she nods quickly.]

Right so before [Adam, Lucifer, Sam, and Michael took a trip to the Cage. So not saying that.] a lot of stuff went down but only a couple of years before we meet. [Her cheeks puff out as she exhales sharply.] And five years behind when I'm from. Totes explains the hair. [She's seriously kidding now. The grin proves it, although she sobers quickly enough, becomes all business again... at least while she figures out one more pressing detail.]

Now what about Dean? [Her eyes widen and she gives a bounce of excitement.] Oh! Is he far enough behind you that you're the older one now? Please say yes. He so has it coming. [It's said in jest but, let's be real, they both know it's true.]

No, [clearing his throat a little] Dean's from a month after I went into the cage. Still older.

So, how did we meet? Are you a hunter? [The perkiest hunter ever?]

What happens to my hair? [And to him. Does this mean he gets his soul back? And he and Dean are really still alive years later? ...And if she knows Cas then what about Bobby? Did he really...?]

[Oh. Oh. Awkward and a major case of suckage.

And now isn't the time for sympathy. Time for her to offer up some info of her own.]

I'm a hacker. [a pause] You guys needed some info on a baddie - the Leviathan. I helped you get it. Wound up with a broken arm and on the run for my trouble, so I pretty much told you two never to contact me again what with, y'know, ruining my life and all. [So not getting into detail with that. Moving along, with a smile to hopefully lessen that last part.]

Then our paths crossed again, and again, and eventually I figured if I was going to constantly be caught up in the monsterfest that is the Winchesters, I might as well gank the baddies too. [Her grin grows.] So yep, I'm a hunter. Not that Dean's overly thrilled about it but... [she shrugs then chuckles]

And your hair is fine, Sam. It's just a little longer, by my time, but it suits you. Even if Dean disagrees a whole super lot.

So, five years from now we're just...hunting? [It sounds so normal. ...Their version normal which actually sounds a little too good to be true.] And everyone's okay?

And I support you being a hunter? [He is not fully on board with everything she says being the truth yet, but she seems genuine and he's seen weirder, so he's also not rejecting that it's possible. There will be holy water and silver tests later.]

[She wants to say yes. Really, really wants to say yes. She won't lie, though. She can't. Not to Sam.

So, mid-nod, she shakes her head and sighs.]
Yes and no. I mean, there's still been some pretty major baddies, and we've got this whole Mark of Cain thing we're dealing with right now, but [hello, reassuring smile and tone] we're totes gonna kick its ass. And as far as me hunting goes [she shrugs] you get why I do it, at least. Plus, after I helped liberate Oz, I'd like to think I've proven I can hold my own.

[She grins knowingly.] Oh! And feel free to bring on the make sure I'm a human tests whenever you want. Though I should probably warn you there are a few more you need to start running, if this place is going to make with the kidnapping folks from further down your timeline. Just fyi.

But at least there's no need to be sneaky about the tests]

Totes ready to meet whenever you are. And yep, you heard me right. Oz, as in the Wizard of. Except he turned out to be an actual baddie. But Dorothy rocks. [definitely a flash of a fond grin, there] And yes, it's a real place. The books were written by Dorothy's father, telling of her adventures. We came across her and, well, I wanted my own quest so I went back with her to help. Came back once the job was done. [In two pieces. Literally. Probably best not to mention that just yet.] Which is when I learned about the Mark of Cain. I've been helping you try to get it off of Dean ever since, which we're super close to figuring out. But we're not there yet and none of the things to help us get there are here. Which means if Dean suddenly starts sporting the Mark [she pauses, sighs, then blurts it out] we could be in for some seriously violent-shaped trouble.

[She hesitates on what she's going to say next then decides to just go for it.]

So level with me. How close are you and Dean right now?

He's my brother. [Which isn't much of an answer. Although it wasn't that long ago he was telling Dean they weren't brothers. The wardens like to play head games. Sam was here for months on his own and there are still things that haven't been shared.]

And we should do those tests before there's any leveling.

[But as amusing as Oz is, he has a bad feeling about the Mark of Cain. He knows the reference from the Bible of course. "I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."]

Fair enough. I'm at the beach. You want to come to me or give me a location? [a pause and she's suddenly all business, complete with surprisingly hardened features and a no-nonsense tone] And in the meantime - and I know you don't know me but for serious, Sam - if you run into Dean, and he's got a mark on his forearm, don't try talking to him. Don't try reasoning with him or fighting him. Just do me a favor and run. Please.

So she simply nods and flashes him a small smile.]

Um. Hello!

It's nice to meet you too! And that's okay, Calliope. I'm starting to get the sinking feeling that busting out of here might not be as easy as I first thought. [She should be more upset about this. [She doesn't exactly yell, but her voice does get strained with annoyance, even while she makes an obvious effort not to sound that way.]

Don't be so presumptuous, please! I volunteered for this job, because I like talking to people! Besides, I'll have you know that not everyone here wants to leave—like me!

And third, I'm not sure what kind of help I would be even if I wanted to escape. The best I can do is try to make people feel more comfortable!

Hey, hang on. That wasn't how I meant it. [Except it kinda was. Moving along.] This is just a little hard to believe. I mean, most prisoners want to leave jail so it's a little jarring to hear there are those who don't. I didn't mean to insult you. [Her voice gets small and contrite.] Sorry?

I'm sorry, too. That hit a nerve, but that's no excuse for being mean and yelling at you when you've just gotten here! I hope you can forgive me for being a brute.

Shut the front door! Are you for serious? Why, exactly, are folks helping make it easier for the guards? That's legit the opposite of what we need to be doing if we want to get a leg-up here.

[With a life spent on the run, breaking the law simply to survive, plus everything she's been through since meeting the Winchesters, Charlie is pretty good at telling when something is off. This is one of those times. She doesn't think she's being lied to but she does think that she should probably chat up one of the people who are taking it upon themselves to police their fellow captives. Get both sides of the story, so to speak.

For now, though, she sticks with the conversation she's having and simply tells herself to take it with that proverbial grain of salt.]

I didn't get a close look. [Seeing as he had a pair of spinning tails sprouting out of his lower extremities at the time, and had only seen the disturbance as he flew on by.] But my money is on a forcefield of some kind.

To your second question: This is a virtual world. Not so long ago, they flooded every inch of this place, right over the rooftops, and restored it all to perfection the very next day. It was as if they never tried to drown us like rats the day previous. Even if damage were done to the kiosk, or any other valuable part of this place, what's to say they couldn't wink it back to alright again?
