[Day 332][Video|Action|Open]
[Seyn is staring down the video screen, not that unfamiliar with the technology, even if this form of it is different from what she’s used to. There’s an awkward, tense smile on her face, as if she’s trying to think of the most polite way to say what’s on her mind. Bright orange really clashes with her hair and eyes in a way that she immediately thinks would make her a rather gaudy Knight, but that's not important, is it? Not when she's just been sent to a virtual prison.]

All right now. I can believe that I’m in prison, considering what I’ve been up to the last few months. But some of these crimes are really just too much. How can they blame you for crimes that weren’t crimes when you were doing 'em? [Or at least not viewed as crimes towards the people she was fighting when it happened. She doesn't sound as angry as she really is, managing to keep most of her tone this side of frustration, the smile more obviously sarcastic by the end than genuine.]

I guess I should be thankful I wasn't sent straight to solitary, but it's hard to feel grateful right this nano.

[There's only so much that being on video can tell her, so Seyn starts wandering, using the map to familiarize herself with the locations, especially where the food stores are and the lodgings. She feels like she sticks out like an accident cone in these clothes. It makes her feel too visible, and she's used to wearing white.

So the first place she heads towards is Bull's Eye. She can't get that ankle monitor off, but she's not staying in this jumpsuit. She'll be digging through the clothes and when she finds something she likes well enough--black jogging pants and a dark red shirt--she'll be stripping down to her underwear right there and putting it on. Speed is more important to her than privacy--not that she's really used to privacy in the first place--so sorry to anyone who happens to walk by the women's athletic section right then. She's a bit too tall for the racks themselves to cover her up. After the change, she'll be wandering from sector to sector, trying to memorize everything that she can. Knowing the playing field is always rule number one.]

Then you are entirely human? [Mind. Blown. And unfortunately for Seyn, what she is saying is so interesting that he can't help but ask questions.] What needs are enhanced? Does this nanotechnology work in tandem with DNA, or is it entirely different?

[She is thrown off by all of the questions, not even sure where to start. Being an EN is just what she is. She knows some of the science behind it--what most people do or can get from early education--it's something that just is what it is. It's only been in the last few months of her life that she's started to see beyond the curtain of all the lies and propaganda.]

It...Uh. It just means that the nanites enhancing our DNA and immune systems malfunctions and causes unexpected side effects. Some people end up paralyzed or deaf or blind and some people get abilities like mine. So we get sent to Academies to learn how to use our abilities.

[So they can be trained to see themselves as only useful for the sake of everyone else.]

Nanites are common in your world?

[Ahem. She doesn't look thrilled with the barrage of questions, so he tries to reign himself in.]

Ah... there is no need for you to answer that, if you would prefer not to. Things like that rarely happen where I come from. There are genetic defects, occasionally, but never special abilities... not that I mean to imply that there is anything defective about you! It's remarkable, that is what I intended to say.

It's fine. [She says it while waving a hand so she doesn't make him to uncomfortable.] I know I'm defective. Lots of Norms call us DFs when we aren't saving their lives, entertaining them, or doing whatever they want us to.

[Bitter? Not at all.] It's not a problem. It's just strange because we've had nanites for so long I don't know what it'd be like to not have 'em.

Are you never allowed to do what you want to do? [And then no more questions! This one feels like an important one to ask.]

If your civilization has had nanites for a very long time, maybe you would be unable to exist without them. They must serve a purpose. Even if their functions aren't vital, your bodies may have become too accustomed to them to work well without.
