[Day 332][Video|Action|Open]
[Seyn is staring down the video screen, not that unfamiliar with the technology, even if this form of it is different from what she’s used to. There’s an awkward, tense smile on her face, as if she’s trying to think of the most polite way to say what’s on her mind. Bright orange really clashes with her hair and eyes in a way that she immediately thinks would make her a rather gaudy Knight, but that's not important, is it? Not when she's just been sent to a virtual prison.]

All right now. I can believe that I’m in prison, considering what I’ve been up to the last few months. But some of these crimes are really just too much. How can they blame you for crimes that weren’t crimes when you were doing 'em? [Or at least not viewed as crimes towards the people she was fighting when it happened. She doesn't sound as angry as she really is, managing to keep most of her tone this side of frustration, the smile more obviously sarcastic by the end than genuine.]

I guess I should be thankful I wasn't sent straight to solitary, but it's hard to feel grateful right this nano.

[Action]
[There's only so much that being on video can tell her, so Seyn starts wandering, using the map to familiarize herself with the locations, especially where the food stores are and the lodgings. She feels like she sticks out like an accident cone in these clothes. It makes her feel too visible, and she's used to wearing white.

So the first place she heads towards is Bull's Eye. She can't get that ankle monitor off, but she's not staying in this jumpsuit. She'll be digging through the clothes and when she finds something she likes well enough--black jogging pants and a dark red shirt--she'll be stripping down to her underwear right there and putting it on. Speed is more important to her than privacy--not that she's really used to privacy in the first place--so sorry to anyone who happens to walk by the women's athletic section right then. She's a bit too tall for the racks themselves to cover her up. After the change, she'll be wandering from sector to sector, trying to memorize everything that she can. Knowing the playing field is always rule number one.]

It's fine. Do you know what you need to do?

Depends on what you mean. Since I'm in prison and don't even remember getting a trial, I'd say I need to start working on my appeal. But they never told me who my attorney is.

There won't be an appeal, and no attorneys. I was thinking more, have you been informed about the apartments, where to find food, clothes, basic needs, that sort of thing?

[It's hard to stay smiling when you're getting this angry, but Seyn is putting in qiute the effort.] Ah, if that's the case, then yeah, the "welcome" I got told me all about that and showed me the map. They didn't mention that we were denied appeals. Guess I shouldn't be surprised 'bout that either.

[Virtual prison, under the sea, no attorneys or appeals...] They've spent a lot of money on such a shiny place if they planned to just throw away the key on us.

There's a lot of talk about rehabilitation, but I don't think there's an end goal. No one goes home, even if they're no longer here.

And I'm guessing they never bothered to mention what happens to the people that don't stick around.

[The greeting did say the prison was virtual, so all Seyn can think of are the simulators and how real they can feel. But where are their bodies?]

I'm not sure, honestly. Our real bodies are in pods, in some kind of ... coma or something. I don't know. You'll have to find someone who knows better than I do. People who leave here, they're still in the pods. They've just been disconnected somehow.

Disconnected? So this is all some sim and they got unplugged. [Stranger by the minute.] Thanks for explaining that, I had thought it might be something like that but wasn't sure.

[Now for her to escape she has to get out of the virtual world and fight her way from of whatever they're contained. It's sounding harder by the minute.]

Maybe? I don't know. I guess it's something like that. [He's really not up on the technology side of things.]

It's still nothing like any prison I've heard about back home. [She's not sure why you would even bother with luxuries and comforts in a prison. If they were trying to punish them, it's an odd way of doing it.] It'll take some getting used to, I bet.

What's your name?

Me either. But I don't pretend to try and understand it.

[Oh, right. Introductions.]

Right. Sorry. Nico.

It's nice to meet ya, Nico. Seeing as I don't understand much of it either, I can't say I hold it against you. [No point of blaming some teen for how completely confusing this is.] I'm Seyn. How long have you been here?

[He looks pretty young for them to be charging him as an adult, but maybe he's just younger than he looks... Or the wardens are even more twisted than they've sounded so far.]

That's plenty long enough, I'd say. The wardens could use a talking to about all of this, but I doubt some newbie on the scene will change their minds.

[She's right all counts!]

You can talk to them, but you won't get anywhere. It's not even worth the bother, if you ask me.

Not that friendly, are they? [Now that wouldn't surprise her since she expects wardens to be hard and stern, but they aren't...real wardens. They're artificial intelligence. Programs.]

Well, not not friendly. Just ... frustrating. Sometimes you can get what you want. [Though he can only seem to get what he wants when his friends get involved.]

Do you have to give them something in return? [Not that she knows what the prisoners could have that the wardens would want, but prison. She expects corruption everywhere.]

Rehabilitation points, usually. A lot of them.

...Points? Is that the credit they use here for buying things?

[She's very much thinking of it in terms of money.]

[info]nico_di_angelo
2015-07-24 12:37 am UTC (link)
No? Everything here is free. Clothes and food and stuff. If you want something special from the Wardens, though - like, something from your home, you need points for that. Um... [He holds up his hand to show a silver skull-faced ring.] Like this. I needed rehab points to get this because it's from my world. [Not really. It's just an illusion, like the rest of this place. But he doesn't want to get into that.]

So it is like buying thing just...only things from outside the prison.

[That does make some sense, but she's not sure she likes the idea of these "rehabilitation points."] How do we get these points?

You have to do stuff. Like, go to classes and join activities and things like that. You're thingy should have a run-down of all that information for you. [He means the communication device.]

Thingy... [She's a bit confused but gets it after a moment.] Oh, you mean the communicator. I must have missed that part when I was reading the welcome speech.

...What kind of classes are they trying to make us go to? [That does concern her a bit since she remembers well what the special academy she went to taught her. It taught her how to not think.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]nico_di_angelo
2015-07-28 06:13 pm UTC (link)
They don't really make us ... It's voluntary. The classes are run by inmates. Things like life skills, and driver's ed, and cooking, and sewing...
