Yo, clinic staff and anyone else who's got a little experience with CPR or lifeguarding, is a particularly strong swimmer or whose got skills that might be useful for us if the water rises much higher - put your hand up. The Force here's looking for volunteers but I'm going to be the one poking you all with a stick to get organized.

[Karev's wet to the bone, still packing waterproofed supplies - the last of it from the clinic. Anything for small abrasions from floating garbage to CPR mouth guards. Not that they'll likely see much use, hopefully. He looks a little tired but it's not the first time he's worked through a hangover and frankly, it's forgotten pretty quick. As terrible as it sounds, he thrives on a good disaster. The ability to do something in a good disaster.]

Keep tabs on your friends and neighbors, not everyone knows how to swim or how to admit that they never learned. Once someone goes under there's only a short period of time to do something in. After about seven minutes, they're gone. And don't go trying to be a savior if you're not trained to, either, because a drowning person can drag you down too if you're not prepared.

[Private to Gwen Cooper]

[This comes a little later after his first broadcast, and this is only voice. He - debated doing this, honestly. But here he is because ignoring it didn't help, it only made him pack three of the same thing into one pack.] Yo.

You getting along okay in this crap?

[Karev is grumpily still organizing a meager selection of medical supplies. He's already trimmed back the packs once, down to the minimalist resource they can be. It was sort of mind numbing before, so he's happy to have company. Really happy, actually.]

Sup. Help yourself - to granola bricks and sharp things.

Think I'll pass on the granola, actually. [ For now. Save it for a rainy day. ]

So, tell me what I can do.

Pick, pack and wrap. [He'll demonstrate, stuffing a few supplies into a bag before waterproofing it.

By sticking it in a ziplock bag.]
Not much to do. In fact I'm mostly drawing it out because I don't know what to do next.

[Being honest, he rubs his face.] A flood in a freakin' fishbowl. We can't run anywhere.

Yeah... that's a concern. [ What with the dome and also the ocean outside. He's not convinced it's as great a danger as they're lead to believe, considering the confirmed nature of virtual reality. ]

I don't think they're drowning us. That wouldn't make any sense... every time something happens, it's like they want to see how we'll handle it. Killing us all would defeat that purpose.

But they already admitted that they can kill us however many times they want and just press restart.

[His body language gets tense, focused on what his hands are doing.] It's - like a kid with an anthill. You watch, learn for a while then you get bored and pull out the magnifying glass. Shake the farm. [...] Drown the farm.

But what does that really change? If they kill us to bring us back... then what does it change? It's not real. [ And he has really been killed only to be brought back by his killer. White lights, the whole shebang. ]

It's all in our heads.

Why do we burn holes in grasshoppers? 'Cause we can. We have - had the power.

[Karev doesn't know. This is just his frustration fueled thinking.] They can watch what we do and then just reset us to default. Pretty good for situational trauma information gathering, don't you think? It's all in our heads but they're also in here with us. Why the hell else would they do what they're doing? For our benefit?

...You really think this is just a game to them? That there's no... no bigger purpose?

[ He's not sure how that would make him feel. On one hand, great, that's like solving murders back home. On the other... it seems so pointless. ]

I don't know what I think. [But.]

Since when are they obligated to care about us? Are they really held to any kind of moral code? How do we know.

I wouldn't say moral code, but... it makes more sense if this is an experiment. Even if this is all virtual, it still has to take a lot of resources to keep so many bodies alive and relatively healthy.

[If they have bodies. But Karev doesn't think that, instead he remembers a brief bit of The Matrix.]

Yeah I've seen a few movies. Wouldn't be so sure about that.

We've had people wake up on the other side, though. We know how they're storing us.

No. I wasn't over there so if you want a detailed description you'll have to ask Kitty, but from the sounds of it we're just... kept in life support pods.

[Still the potential of liquified people.] And we're really sure that was a thing that happened, for real?

[info]thisiscalm

How can we be sure of anything happening for real? Our perception of reality hinges on our sensory impressions — for all we know, nothing is real. Not back home either.

[Doesn't that make Karev shift uncomfortably.] Now that sounds like too much work and effort, doesn't it? Making all this crap up.

Is it? It wouldn't take more than creating the simulation we're already in. Our brains would do the rest.

Whatever. Just whatever. I can't deal with this crap, man...
