Day 315 [Voice / Action]
[Voice]
A very quick question, if you have a moment to answer: where is the best place to drink and socialize in Marina?

I'm disappointed in myself for being here for twenty-two days without asking for a definitive answer to this.

[Action]
[With Korra gone, an empty Starfleet apartment, and no well-established friends to speak of, Chekov has no idea what to do with himself. There aren't math-heavy projects or engineering conundrums to provide a distraction. There isn't even a star-filled night sky to look at and map and imagine traveling. There's nothing but ocean and a growing dysphoria that is equal parts restlessness, boredom, and loneliness.

A decent bar with decent alcohol and decent company would improve Chekov's mood immensely, even with the wardens' highly prohibitive rules concerning alcohol. Since he has not found such a thing yet, he goes about his day with an uncharacteristic sullenness.

He spends several unhappy hours patrolling sectors three, four, and five. He drops by the sports complex at the warden's suggestion and, when none of the offered programs catch his interest, elects to sit on the sidelines and scribble out impossible ideas in a notepad. (Maybe he will be given rehabilitation points for being in the general vicinity of today's activities?) Chekov is careful not to look too busy, however; he doesn't want to do anything to discourage other inmates from striking up a conversation.]

[Gwen sits down and smiles, trying to make a point with her body that she does not mind staying around. The familiarity of him fades away as he smiles. It was more clear when he was frowning, worrying.
Something pours into her skull. Softly and slowly, ending with a sort of pop of remembarance. Gwen blinks and looks at the young man, realizing that she has seen him here, before, the same face, but someone else.

This realization has lead to quite a bit of silence from her part. She shakes her head and smiles at him, trying to regain some posture.]

Sorry love, I just started thinking about something. How... I mean...You are so familiar.

[Fortunately, she is not the first person to react to him like that. It was disconcerting at first, but now it doesn't seem at all extraordinary.]

I doubt that we have met, but I look very similar to someone else here, I'm told. [He offers her a hand to shake.] I am Pavel Andreievich Chekov.

[Gwen reaches out and grasps his hand, firmly.]

It's lovely to meet you Pavel. That's a rather impressive work of vowels in your middle name. I'm Gwen Cooper.

It's good to meet you as well, Miss Coo--ah, Gwen, and thank you. I take great pride in my collection of vowels.

May I ask where you are from? I had a friend with an accent very similar to yours. Or I think that it was similar; he was often drunk, so it's difficult to be certain.

I'm from Wales love. Swansea, originally. Who did you know love?

[She laughs, and shakes her head a little.]

Well I would love to say that it's the first time I heard that.

Wales, yes--that is where Howl was from. I doubt that you would have met him, given the number of possible universes in existence, but you wouldn't have been able to overlook him.

How many times have you heard it? I had no idea that inebriated people from Wales were numerous enough to warrant comment.

Ugh sorry for late response!

I'm sorry I don't think I've had the pleasure.

Well, depends on who you're talking too. If you're talking to an englishman they might tell you loads of rude things about us and our inebriated ways.

Not to worry!

Maybe that is for the best. Not everyone appreciates Howl's company.

[He scoffs.] I would never believe anyone who comments on the drunkenness of an entire population. I'm Russian; most people who are not Russian are convinced that we are always drunk. [A thoughtful pause.] Although, maybe, there is some truth to that conviction.

[Gwen readies herself to speak, following up on his words on prejudice. But his conclusion draws her to laugh. It feels good to laugh, the muscles moved by the motion feel as if they have become stiff with non-use.]

Well if I'm honest I've wanted to become good and drunk since I got here.

[He likes that he could make her laugh. It improves his own mood further.]

The wardens would frown on that, I believe, but testing their tolerance may be worthwhile. Should you decide to become very drunk, let me know so I can join you.

I'll smuggle bits and pieces until I have a good storage. Then I'll let you know.

[Gwen grins. Then she looks him up and down, raising an eyebrow.]

Don't take this the wrong way but you're an adult right?
