[So. There it is. His own little store.

Nico isn't entirely sure what he's supposed to do with it. It was a spur of the moment decision. He already picked up some supplies to make signage. Poster board and markers. This was not going to be fancy place, no sir. He would have done this yesterday, but thanks to the anomaly, he'd forgotten about it.

He's going to need product as well. Which means he should probably make some kind of announcement. Ugh.]

[ Video ]

I've, um, opened a store for second hand goods in Sector 3, so if you've got any items you no longer need or want, I'd be happy to take them off your hands...

[ Action ]

[Nico can be found at the shop most of the day, cursing over signs, accepting donations, scratching his head over what he's got himself into, or maybe dozing off when it gets too quiet.]

Oh. [Oh!] Really? Um.

[He scrambles to scoop the supplies across the floor so they are closer, pushing his failed attempts to the side. He holds one up to show her how horrible it is. One side is all Greek, with lettering of varying sizes and crowded on the edges. The other side is English, and just as jumbled, poorly spelled, and many of the letters and words transposed.]

See, I'm no good at it. I want a sign at the back to let people know they can leave their stuff inside the door. And then a sign at the front pointing people to the back when the store is unoccupied.

[Sarah looks at the failed sign dubiously before pulling a blank piece of poster board over.]

I think I can do that. Do you want any decorations? Or just the words.

[He tosses the failed attempt to the side.]

Whatever you think is best. I didn't get far enough to even think about decorations. Thanks for doing this.

No it's OK. I like doing this type of thing. The drawing and writing.

[She pulls another piece of posterboard towards her and grabs the various markers.]

What else needs to be done?

[As she asks, she studies the poster board a moment before uncapping a pen and beginning to write in big block letters.]

That's cool. I never really had much reason to write.

[He looks around at the space with a thoughtful frown.]

I guess just figuring out where things will go, and putting what I do have so far up on racks and shelves.

Not even in school?

[The letters are quite large. Hopefully everyone will be able to see them street side. As she finishes the lettering, she adds an arrow pointing to the back of the store. Then she starts decorating with some curly cues and things.]

I guess in school. But ... I stopped around the fourth grade. So.

[So he could blame the dyslexia like other demigods did, but really he was just dumb?]

That looks a lot nicer.

You stopped writing? Or you stopped going to school...

[Because she thought she remembered him saying he stopped going to school...]

Oh... thanks. I can do the other one too. You should work on your shelves

School. Not by choice. It was just ... the way things happened.

[Too late to do anything about that now, isn't it?]

Right. I should do that. Good idea.

[He had no idea what he was doing. Was that obvious? He got up to pick through a box someone had dropped off earlier.]

[Sarah has never been good at social interaction, so she just lets him go do whatever it is he needs to do rather than discuss his school experience. About 20 minutes later, she's done with the signs. She brings them over to where he's working for approval.]

Good?

[Most people ask all kinds of questions, like they actually care. He's not always comfortable with it. He's not good with social interaction either. So he's actually very okay when she doesn't say anything. It makes him nervous at first, and he checks every so often to make sure she's okay, and that she hasn't decided to just up and leave. He wouldn't blame her if she did.

He's putting away the last of what he has so far on the shelves when she approaches.]

Yeah... Yeah, they're perfect.

[It's far better than anything he could have done. He smiles. And for once, it's not a pearl-forced smile.]

Thank you. I owe you.

[It turns out, if there is one thing Sarah is good at, it's Parallel Play. Something reserved typically for toddlers.

She blushes when he compliments the signs.]

No... no you don't owe me. I like the art.

[Well...He still feels he should pay her back somehow, but he'll keep that to himself.]

We should put these up. [And then the storm tomorrow can destroy them.

He grabbed a couple of pins hurried outside to do just that.]

[Sarah followed with the signs.]

And after do you need help putting things on shelves?

[And she'll totally help with new signs after the storm if he wants...]

[Putting them up was easy enough. He already knew exactly where he wanted them. It was the only he'd been certain of when he first saw the building.]

If you want to, yeah. That'd be nice. Thanks.

[He would appreciate it.]

[And so they go back inside. Sarah looks through the things and starts sorting them into various piles.]

What made you decide to do this?

[Nico busies himself with hanging clothing by size and type.]

A conversation with Aidan. He had some things taking up space, and the topic of donation centers and trading posts came up. It seemed like something we could use around here.

Oh. I didn't realize people had extra things.

[Sarah seems to only have what she needs, and if she finds she needs something else... she can get it easily enough.]

Apparently. I only have a few things myself.

[A habit picked up from living out of a backpack. Even with his own room in the apartment, he only had enough to fill one drawer in a dresser.]

But I guess when everything is free, it's easy to get more stuff. And there are also the people ... leave. After a while, something would have to be done about their stuff, right?

[info]labyrinthrunner

Oh right. I didn't think of that. I've only had one friend disappear. And really, he was an adult who... I think... thought I couldn't take care of myself. Well. Two maybe. Percy's gone too I think.

[He goes still when he hears Percy's name, and then fumbles with the hanger and drops the shirt he was trying to hang.] Um ... Yeah. Yeah, Percy's gone.

[He stalls to gather his thoughts, picks the shirts up from the floor and kneads it between his hands. How much does he need to say?]

We're from the same world, yeah. I've known him for years.

[The shirt's going to tear if he twists it any tighter.]

I... I tried not to. [But it's the opposite, really. He could never hate Percy, no matter how hard he tried. And he tried. He tried so hard not to feel what he really felt.]
