Deanna's laugh is soft and warm. "I can. Betazoids have the ability to tune out the thoughts of others and I use that to focus my empathic abilities so I don't get overwhelmed. It doesn't work as well with animals, unfortunately." She prefers to keep her feet on the ground, as it were.
"Usually, I can be in space and still sense the emotions of the people down on a planet's surface. Here, it's very limited. I have to physically be in the same room or open area with a person to read them. There was a time where I lost my abilities altogether. It was like losing a part of myself, an arm or a leg to anyone else. I felt vulnerable... helpless in a way. Even though they're less effective here, I'm glad they still work."
The first day here had been the same thing and she hadn't known if they would return or not.
