Day 287 - Open to All
[AM Pet Cafe]

The more she thought about it, the more sense it made. A dog would be quite useful. And so here she was deciding between the merit of an adult dog versus a puppy. The puppies were cute, and she had the time to train them. However, a puppy couldn't also protect her for a few months yet. The choice was ultimately made for her when a two year old pit bull walked on over and licked her hand. He sat on command, and was able to handle some basic commands. All in all, Martha walked out of the pet cafe with a leashed dog in one hand and a small bag of food and a bone in her other. The food wouldn't last too long, but she'd have time to get more before it was a problem.

[AM Around the Dome]

Martha spent most of the morning walking the dog, she named him Patch, back and forth from various stores to her rooms. He had a bowl, food, plenty of toys, a bed. Anyone encountering her along the way would note she was humming Row Row Row your Boat peppered with occasional commands.

[PM Clinic]

Martha sat at the desk with a book in hand, tossing a ball across the room for Patch to chase. When he was tired, he flopped down behind her chair, slurping up water from the bowl she now kept there. Of course, he wouldn't be allowed back in the rooms. But for now, he was just fine in the waiting room. She smiled to herself as he came back with the ball and began humming Row Row Row Your Boat again.

It's during one of those trips around the dome that Martha and Deanna will cross paths. Deanna's on her way to her office for a little tidying up before she waits to see if anyone will come today. They haven't really spoken since the time Deanna came to the clinic to talk about what she does and she's a little surprised to run across Martha. She supposes she shouldn't be; the dome is rather small, all told. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

The sight of the dog is new, though, and Deanna smiles at the friendly animal. "Hello, there. Aren't you handsome?"

	Martha stopped humming to smile at Deanna. Patch tugged on the leash, ready to meet the new person. "Easy boy. Don't tug my arm off!" Martha laughed, and then realized he wouldn't even know what that meant. "Sit!" He sat immediately, but his tail continued wagging. "He sure thinks he is," she replied to Deanna finally. Deanna doesn't squat down as much as she leans a little to give him a pat on the head. She doesn't mind animals, but it's probably pretty clear that she isn't as comfortable around them as she is around people. Animal emotions are definitely something she has to take in small doses.

"I'm doing well," she answers, smiling at Martha when she straightens again. "What about you? Is your friend new?"

	The dog's tail wags and he looks like he's about to jump. "Patch," she warns. He looks back at her and then ambles over as if to say, 'See? I'm not doing anything wrong.' Martha nods. "As of about an hour ago actually. He sort of just picked me." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Deanna smiles. "Well, he's very lovely. I've never considered choosing a pet myself --" Especially not here. It's too easy to get pulled away without warning. "-- but I can see why someone else might." In all fairness, having an animal might help patients feel calmer, so it might be something to consider for the future. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"But not here?" At least she hopes that hasn't been the case here. "That does sound like a good idea." Deanna lives with Data, though. There's no better security system than an android. 	"I'm sorry to hear that," Deanna answers honestly, her expression turning to one of concern. "If I can help at all, please let me know." Counselor, after all. She's a good listener. 	Patch recognized Veronica right away. His tail started wagging so fast his butt was wiggling and he couldn't walk straight. Martha laughed as she walked him over to the blonde woman. "Friend of yours?" she asked kindly. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
