[ The feed starts long before anyone speaks, lingers in eerie silence broken by the clicks of a stubborn lighter, the dry crackle of tobacco being set alight, the hollow intake of smoke in dead lungs. The trembling exhale, functioning as an initial indicator to just how rough and ragged his voice is when he does speak. Strained, like he's been screaming himself raw or perhaps the measured and stilted words are a product of him trying to keep himself from doing just that. ]

Are you happy now? Is the world all bright, full of puppydogs and rainbows again? Messing with things you don't understand... makes you feel powerful, doesn't it? Like you're in control. Like you know something. Let me tell you a lit'le secret: you don't know shit. You've never been in control and you never will be. Always somethin' else, calling the shots... whether you realize it or not.

The real monsters aren't out there... but in here. [ Punctuated by the hollow knock of knuckles against breastbone and then he cuts the feed. ]

	I wasn't trying to fight him. He was itching for a brawl and I indulged... but I wasn't trying to fight him. [ Because it felt so pointless at the time. [Its new but entirely unsurprising information. He's seen Jack do that exact thing more times than he can count at Torchwood. And as for exclusive information, in addition to that being another part of his personality he's more than used to, Jack is his boss as well as his boyfriend. Sometimes things are simply need to know information. He can live with it.]

I care what you have to say. I don't like you at all, but we might as well all be honest about the fact that we're in this together.

I don't give a toss about whether you like me or not. [ Somewhat even tone, lacking the usual aggression. He doesn't care. Even more so, he knows perfectly well that he deserves all of this. ]

But someone needs to understand what the hell you've been messing with here, before you get cocky and start doing it to everyone that doesn't play by your rules. Jack sure isn't interested in seeing reason. [ But maybe Ianto. He always seemed less fucking stupid. ]

[He's got an accurate assessment there, although Ianto would disagree with the less stupid phrasing of it all. Jack makes the hard calls because he has to. Because no one else will. Ianto's the one who can be persuaded to be more empathetic on occasion. It usually backfires on him spectacularly, but that's not the point.]

I don't think he plans on going around stuffing souls into everyone he disagrees with, if that's what you mean.

He can feel the weight of those lives all too heavily, hands so soaked in blood it's a wonder they're not actually dripping. ] I haven't said that I don't deserve to be punished. 	He's going to do what he feels he needs to when it comes to dealing with people like you regardless of how many people he has on his side. [And with Ianto around he's always guaranteed to have at least one person there for him.] Maybe you should tell everyone not to hurt innocent people if they're so worried. [He doesn't know what he expected out of this conversation. Perhaps it was too much to hope that Spike would really chance. But there doesn't seem to be any actual remorse here, no sense that he's done bad things and now has a chance to better himself. Just whining and threats, which isn't all that much of a change from before to be honest. He's disappointed.]
