♕ |[ Day 283 ]| Video;
[It's been a while since Neil addressed the Network, but here he is, folks, wide-eyed and eager.]

Is this a Visitors' Day? I thought it might be, because there are so many new people, and they haven't said anything about new inmates. I wasn't really sure if you had them here.

If there's anyone here from the City-- or anyone who visited the City, too, or from home, if anyone's come that far-- I'd like to say hello. My name is Neil, I used to run the bookshop called Bilton and Scaggs and I put on plays, from time to time.

[He grins.]

Or if you're new, and you'd like to say hello, that's great too! I hope you enjoy your visit. I know it's an odd place, but it's nice. And if it's anything like this used to be in the City, it shouldn't be long.

Definitely. I think if it was just me I'd be all right, since it's not my first time in a place like this, but I'm glad it's not just me.

Yeah. I can sympathize with that. I had my sister here for a while. As much as I hated her being stuck in a prison, she was with me. It was a good thing as much as it was a bad thing.

I think any place-- even a prison-- is what you make of it, really. Or maybe I’ve just been stuck long enough that I don’t mind getting stuck.

[Plus, he can’t go home, but that’s a tougher subject.]

That could be, too. I would imagine that, after a while, it probably gets easier, right?

We were there long enough that it felt like home, honestly.

I guess it could, after a while. I'm not sure I could ever get that feeling here, though, without my family. It's odd. I feel a little bit settled, but not quite.

We were in the City five years-- so, who knows. Maybe you won't be stuck here that long, though.

Well, I hope not. I don't think anyone's been here that long. It seems like, maybe, not quite a year would be the longest? Because they're in the 200's for the day count.

That's what I'd assumed. I guess it would be harder, living here for that long.

[On the other hand, Neil has no particular plans to leave, if he can help it. His options are somewhat limited.]

Maybe. I think it depends. From some of the stories I've heard, some people might have it better off here.

Oh, I'm sure some are. I just mean-- well, the City was a whole city, there was always something you hadn't seen yet. It's strange being somewhere so much smaller.

It was really that big? [Piper looked impressed.]

It was a whole City. And some of it-- well, the park was bigger inside than outside, there were miles and miles of trails. And stores, and-- well, everything.

Interesting. I mean, I've seen some big cities, but, if you live in them long enough, you eventually learn everything until they take it down and put something new in it's place.

I've never lived in another city, I'm from a pretty small town. But, well. The City was a special place.

[She smiled a little.]

It sounds like you at least enjoyed it there. That's good.

I try to make the most of wherever I end up.

That's actually a good way to be. I know a lot of people who don't.
