♕ |[ Day 283 ]| Video;
[It's been a while since Neil addressed the Network, but here he is, folks, wide-eyed and eager.]

Is this a Visitors' Day? I thought it might be, because there are so many new people, and they haven't said anything about new inmates. I wasn't really sure if you had them here.

If there's anyone here from the City-- or anyone who visited the City, too, or from home, if anyone's come that far-- I'd like to say hello. My name is Neil, I used to run the bookshop called Bilton and Scaggs and I put on plays, from time to time.

[He grins.]

Or if you're new, and you'd like to say hello, that's great too! I hope you enjoy your visit. I know it's an odd place, but it's nice. And if it's anything like this used to be in the City, it shouldn't be long.

[ Little, considering hum. ] If you don't my asking, why did these beings in charge bring you in in the first place?

They didn't, exactly, I don't think. It was the City itself, it was curious.

[He pauses, draws a rather unsteady breath. There hasn't been enough time to get over it. There never will be enough time. The City became his home, and he had to leave it.]

But-- well, honestly, I can't say I understand all of it.

[ Reki'd be damned if that didn't feel like hitting close to home when it came to a Haibane being "born" in Grie. But Reki's not so lost in her own musings that she fails to pick up on Neil's sign of discomfort. ]

I think that's how I feel about Marina.

[ Topic change? ]

Ah-- about that bookstore you mentioned; do you run one here, too?

I don't-- I mean, we haven't been here too long, so I haven't even thought about doing anything like that. Plus we don't have to pay rent. I do kind of miss it, though.

[ Heh. ] Now it's a thought, isn't it? I think, money aside, it would be nice to go to a place with books that isn't the library. It's nice to have a person to ask about what's good -- bots don't do that so well.

Well, that's true. I don't know where I'd get the books, though-- I only had a handful of my own when I got here, and the Wardens still haven't given them back to me.

[ Reki hums pensively, trying to recall what she's learned and heard around from friends. ] If I recall correctly, Wardens are all about rehab' points, right? Like, why not request for a collection from the kiosk -- books that encourage culture and good behavior. There's the added benefit of personal interaction, too.

[ Her idea's vague, but the intention's there. People talking about books, and having a good time and such. ]

I've been thinking about... well, something like that.

[It's a bit more complicated; he's reluctant to spend any of his mysterious brownie points on anything but getting his things from the City back. And-- well, starting a new chapter of the Society, it's a little too soon for that.]

They do seem to encourage all kinds of clubs and classes.

Mm! Something to pass the time and to keep ourselves behaved. [ Relatively. ]

So-- what kind of plays did you put on?

Oh, different things. I'm partial to Shakespeare. Comedies, not tragedies. The last one we put on was a City original, my best friend wrote it.

[ Reki can probably credit her painter memories for somehow feeling that the name rings a bell. A play quickly comes to mind -- ] Like, Much Ado About Nothing? But, hey, what's that original about?

It was a little like one of the Shakespeare plays, but it was set in the City, with people from different worlds trying to get along and figure out their lives. I had a copy with me, but it was in with the other books and the Wardens haven't given it back yet.

Heh. I hope the Wardens pick up the pace and get your books back to you -- I'd like to be around should you come to get a play together!
